You said you had Windows 10 installed on the Chromebook as well as Linux, so 1) do you have to install Windows in Linux to play Windows games in Steam on ChromeOS, 2) can you just play Linux games on Steam directly after installing Steam?
I would not install windows if you want to play windows games because you are putting too much strain on the system. Just install steam and you can play Linux and some windows games.

There is now a message, for several months now, in the settings pop-up menu stating "Security updates ended. Upgrade your devive." Do you know of a way to get rid of this message? Possibly a flag? Thank you for your time.
I wouldn't know about any flags, but you could, and probably should, try installing a new OS on it. Something like gallium os for something Linux based, you'll get updates for a long time and open yourself up to any security issues or websites breaking.
It's hard to say. It all depends on what you want to play. Best to search on Google for the games you want to play. Nvidia GeForce Now might be the best bet for more advanced games. I use it to play games on my Chromebook.
