He IS a tank, just not a "stand on the point in front of my team" kind of tank. He tanks via disruption, running in and out of the fight forcing people to look at him and giving your teammates the opportunity to strike. He's also very good at finishing kills IMO.
I really like all the combos these melee type characters have. Spiderman, Magik, Even Black Widow has a cool combo that can take down 300hp heroes off a body shot. Captain America here is looking like the craziest. I almost felt like I was watching a Marvel vs. Capcom Combo guide. This is really cool!

While you're zipping to them change to your batons and whack them twice to finish off a 300 hp hero. One whack for 250-275hp heroes. It's so satisfying to pull off on people diving you.

One issue I noticed is that Cap can't cancel his E shield toss if there are multiple enemies, meaning he has to wait until it's done ricocheting before he can block. Otherwise it works on single targets.
Crazy amounts of heroes have animation cancels that are as complicated as this. Right now the heroes without these cancels are doing well in ranked but give it a little time and practice and players that main Melee heroes are going to go crazy.
Nice video! Pro tip. In Caps options you can take his Sprint ability off “hold”! I would definitely recommend this! It’s a game changer! You can also do this with his shield block. But definitely a preference move. look into other characters options as well, such Spider-Man’s easy swing. Turn it off. Cheers!
I tried Toggle sprint and it felt like extra steps. Having to press a button every time I want to sprint or jog feels clunky vs just lifting my pinky. Maybe it's more fluid on controller
Another tip is to set the spirit to toggle. There is no reason to be walking normally. Toggle sprint on at the start of the match and Everytime you respawn after dying and you never have to worry about it. You can then mash jump and attack for the slam without worrying about specific sprint cancel timings

Dude, this helped a lot! I did the combos in the practice mode. I couldn't pull off half the combos in an actual game, but did pull off some of the shorter ones and felt like I got much better with him.
Finally, some actualy good guide without freaking explaining the abilities. Will wait for other characters... or more strategy guide (like when do dive and when do not)

Unlike other shields, his does the deflect stuff do they're probably making it so that he can't just block and get away with everything while blocking crazy attacks in-between his damage
shield cancel also works in the gap between 2nd and 3rd basic melee shield toss. the timing is tight, and you need to shield as soon as it hits, and not before, or else its either slower or cancels the attack completely. for dps optimization on bigger targets, charging up your shield toss also essentially counts as a basic attack animation cancel, so if you're looking to use any cooldowns to pump out more damage, you can wait for the first shield toss before you go nuts.
This is a great guide. So many videos out rn have guide in the name and either just read the ability descriptions from F1 or show gameplay without anything useful.

If you want 2 tips. when lining up a slam, throw your shield at the enemies feet, then slam. Doing just those makes the follow-up very easy(being some melee's and maybe a dash to chase). The other being turning off hold to sprint, it makes it so after your press shift everytime you move forward with W its a sprint.
Are these combos still possible? The punch jump punch slam doesn't work for me. The slam comes off cd the milisec I leave the ground. IDK why yours have a delay
Im having the same issue, if i wait half a sec after jumping sometimes i can get the second hit, but the timing seems erratic. not sure how its happening consistently

It makes combos easier so it’s up to you but for high level you want the speed change to mess with their aim a bit. Its preference but I think it’s easier on combos to have it on, but harder in actual position based LOS type fights

But there was no tech I showed in this video that used that not would it be useful. I was showing you shield taps are animation cancels for any move you do. And that is true. Think outside the box
I messed around with hulk for a bit. He didn’t have any sauce from my 2 hrs of hard labbing so I left him alone for the time being. Will touch him again when I get done with some other characters I’m diving into
@@davidk4082 honestly I feel like skill is the biggest factor. Team playstyle. All of these characters shine in multiple different scenarios. But by far I think the strongest tank is magneto and 2nd place is tied between peni and groot
On controller it’s definitly easier to do that rising double melee by just having sprint on toggle. You just tilt forward after you melee and make sure to buffer your jump and you’ll get that rising second melee hit easily.
Wish you’d have talked about his team up cause I feel it makes him way better especially in team fights. Anyone that doesn’t know his team up works like he’s shield toss not like his passive so when you activate it you have like 7 seconds of better movement,damage and the added bonus that all of those tosses can bounce around.
Why not have leading dash always on while doing this. Like if i have leading dash on and go into liberty rush, i can jump immediately into the slam. Is it just quicker to physically cancel into leading dash after the rush. Same for the melee, hold forward, liberty dash, jump melee slam combo, why not just have dash active already during the first melee?
Is anyone else having issues with his quick attack after he jumps before he slams in game? I'm not even talking about in the heat of the moment, I can barely pull it off in the base before the doors open. So easy to do in firing range but the timing is waaaay different in game for me. you have to like wait a bit after you jump but not to long because you will slam. Super frustrating because i can't really get good practice in for the different timing because i have cooldowns in game so i only get to do it like 2 or 3 times before the doors open! could just be latency maybe but i lag in the practice range and i can still pull it off easy.
Since youve made a great case for him as a dive tank, they should add an ability to put his shield on his back so it blocks rear damage while he runs away after diving back line. :D

I can do the jump after first punch with ease, but can't do the second punch right after jump consistently. If I have slam available the second punch will likely get turned into slam when I left click, unless I aim above the middle line but in that case you can't always hit what you were intended to right?
Not really important. Thor isn’t exactly a great character and you won’t see him in comp games. It’s definitely cool and makes you more range based but it doesn’t open up new combos or dmg options
@z00ko I disagree. Thor is in higher ELO games than Captain America. He does everything Cap can do but better, and he has range with a better ult. But that doesn't take away how effective Cap can be, but make no mistake. Thor is probably one of the best tanks in the game once you fully understand his capabilities. I see a lot of RUclipsrs at first call him "trash" or "mid" but now they are calling him S-tier. Ohhh yeah and he has better team ups as well. Thor can buff Cap and Hela. Lol in this video you posted Cap has electricity on him giving him the damage boost. So whatever damage you showcased what partly due to Thor.

I feel the sprint actually bugs out allowing you to spam melee way faster
The sprint jump into melee does not work it will only work if you have cooldown off 4:54
