Do you know the origin of the term 'grave and tomb' that is often mentioned by Chinese community? What exactly is a 'grave,' and what is a 'tomb'? In the early days, when Chinese immigrants moved overseas, how would they fulfill their wish to return to their roots and find peace for their souls after passing away? Historically, there was a traditional custom known as 'bone washing' in overseas Chinese communities. Why did they wash bones? How was it done? Who performed the ritual? Moreover, with the Ghost Month upon us, this Saturday, August 17th, San Francisco's Chinatown will host a huge Ghost Festival, commemorating and comforting the departed souls in a unique way. Several artists from Hong Kong have been invited to the U.S. to incorporate supernatural and cultural elements into their artistic creations, making the entire event a 'cross-cultural, cross-racial, cross-linguistic,' and even a bridge between the human and spiritual realms.
