I love these videos . For me it brings back wonderful memories of working on boats 40 years ago. I used to look like Jared and in my job I also had lost of different uniforms - some were really expensive. To work on a boat you need to be really fit and look good and be young. I made quite a lot of money working on boats and when I was 30 I went ashore and and bought a hotel which I still run in Edinburgh , Scotland - 40 years later.

What a fantastic video! The most in depth bridge tour of any superyacht i've seen. Very much appreciated. One small thing that you missed - that would be cool to see - is all the manual backup (i.e. paper charts, log book, etc.). I'm sure that you are keeping track of everything manually during a passage at the same time you're using all of the electronics. Would be cool to see some of that on one of your future videos. Thanks for all of the great content and I'm looking forward to what's to come.

What a difference from when I sailed destroyers in the Canadian Navy back in the 80's and 90's! Everything was analog, and yes, we 'darkened ship' at 1900 hrs every day with red light. The entire ship was awash with red light, and it was actually easy to get used to, after about 1/2 hr. Great video! Thanks!

Red light doesn't affect your night vision. Good to know. That's why all BMW are red gauges and red LED ambient light to see your hand when there close to the dash (on my 2008 X3).
It's actually amber orange on traditional Bimmers. New ones are white
Things have improved a heck of lot since I worked on ships, but was a long, long, long time ago! At least I can spend time just sitting back and watching someone else going through it, lol. Have fun on your new ship Jared. Have a wonderful time and enjoy every moment, you are soooooooo lucky! Take it from me, I know. (PS Brilliant vids, keep them going/coming. Excellent camera work under the conditions etc you have.)

Great vid, always wanted to know how these big yachts navigate. Surprisingly not that much different then a very small one (~15m). Funny to see that I knew 90% of the navigation instruments, beside the radars. Keep it up!

Speaking of red lights we used to have red light in US Army A/C for night ops but it was discovered that the red light created glare and we couldn't read the contour lines on our tactical maps. We went to a blueish light and the difference was really appreciated by the aviators.

Sludge tank is normally oily water from the bilge. Sewage is normally called "Black Water".

very nice and simple helm. Very nice. love it ! would preffer furunos or simrad, but is great anyway ... You can tell it is a new boat (for me new is less than 10 years old) because the kind of instruments and how neat the layout is ....

Yh it quite hard to go sideways with no stern thruster, but it can be done. All is done is, if you want to go to the port side you will put the rudders to the starboard and then put the starboard engine in forward then put the port engine in reverse and you will be going to the port side.The same applies if you want to go to starboard just switch the thrust from each engine. The starboard engine will then go in reverse and port engine will go in forward and you’ll be going to the starboard side
I’ve been sailing for twenty seven years, what we use on the bridge for monitor screens is custom fitted plexiglass with Velcro to keep them in place

I'm writing a book and there is a yacht in a small segment of the story. I have yet to go on a yacht so your videos are just what I need to help me with some of my research. Your videos are really enriching my story. Thanks for posting. Keep them coming.
Regarding not using the wheel. With our 1978 Catalina 25', it was tiller steering, so very hands up. We also had a 2007 Catalina 28' with wheel steering, but also autopilot. With autopilot and GPS, you basically just press buttons to steer, even though the wheel is right there. Crazy how different it was sailing those two sailboats and it's an interesting contrast to a huge yacht like the one you are in, but interesting that it's kind of a similar experience, steering via buttons. :)

Great video. Could you do an engine/ machinary room one? Just an FYI Sludge tank is a tank for waste oil, fuel, bilge water ect. Blackwater is human waste and waste from showers where as grey water is just sink water and dishwasher water.

Wow Jared interesting we use red light in our PD Patrol cars at night too. You will make a great captain. You explain things well and simple. Shit i fell like i can sail one of these by the end of the vid lol.

Glad you made this video, I assumed what would logically be on the screens and controls, but wanted to learn from someone that actually could point the main things out. Similar to he glass panel cockpits in a boeing 757 (just like that, only completely different) Cheers

Excellent video. Answered a lot of questions I'd had for a long time.
That s a nice cozy pilot house. I like the seat. A couple of questions from a professional mariner. Why 3 hour watches, usually on a port a starboard rotation watches are 6 on 6 off. Allowing better almost proper rest between watches. Second, whats with adjusting the autopilot, do you not send it a route frombthe ECDIS? It should be capable of keeping you on a route without cross track error. Maybe i missed it, but the most useful display of ais is on the elctronic chart. I almost never look at the actual ais display list.i only access it to change my own status and destination.

Great Vid, Yes I agree the monitor brightness is and has been a prolonged issue. Not sure why marine displays have not addressed this more proactively. I end up using a cover to dampen the display which is less than idea. Great job Jared

So cool. Most yacht videos that show the interior of a yacht show the main salon, the guest areas, the sky lounge, blah! Who cares? Show the bridge, the crew quarters and the engine room. That's what I want to see, not another boring video of an gaudy owners deck. This video hit the spot on the bridge, and I thank you for it.
Jared - Great video, have you done one that describes your vlogging system? Favorite camera, future set up, etc. Maybe what you have learned being at sea, what equipment is nice but not necessary? Thanks again.

Hey! I am in the US Navy and some ships simply put a red Plexiglas over the screens with Velcro or something and that works perfectly.
Wouldn’t help with the new touch screens though.
I have Raymarine on my boat and have been in discussion with Raymarine about night mode. They tell me it will be available in a future update.
I'm actually really surprised that you haven't hit 100k subs yet. All of your videos have been in my recommended for the past few months so I thought you'd gain a lot of subs but seems youtube hasn't recommended it to others as much.
But you'll hit 100k for sure, and hopefully relatively soon, because your videos have amazing production value.

Just subscribed. Great videos. As an seaman officer (submariner) with the RAN for 40 years and 4 months (now retired since Sept 2018), seeing the super yacht version of being at sea is a big insight. Your red light issue is bad to say the least... red lighting in a submarine control room at night is something taken very seriously... in fact there are times when "black lighting" is used - minimal lights, all dimmed right down, screened off areas. Keep up the good work with the videos.... very interesting.
Interesting to see how much is actually in a bridge as I expected there to be so much more instruments like an aircraft cockpit. Nice video anyway!
Have you tried putting a filter over the screens? I don’t know how badly a red filter would affect the screens but it could help. It might be a pain to take on and off but you could probably make it easier

I love AIS Marine traffic app is great, I have a front line house overlooking the Solent (UK area which has the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth in it) and am always seeing what boats are about, virtually all privates boats have it as well and they all use it ( have it on) I also have a Villa in Menorca and am surprised that so many boats don’t have it, and the ships that have it don’t bother to switch it on, did you notice in the Med how many ships didn’t have it switched on ?
I remember when we had a 10 ft with 2 wooden ores
