Finally! I NOW understand range mask. I had already watched several other videos on this and came away still not getting it for some odd reason. Now I do. Fantastic explanation -- thank you!
Great clear video. Worth adding the (mostly) self-evident point that this functionality is only available for users of the web version. Specifically, if you have paid the one-off payment for a standalone version of LightRoom on your computer this functionality is not available to you
I was attracted to the tutorial because it seemed to indicate you could use this feature to change the color of something in your photo, but you never touched on that. Can colors be swapped using this feature?
So, this idea of color masking made me think of the setting in my Canon, the option to adj the temp scale and also magenta/greens, cold/warm. Do you ever adj your camera to color settings?
Great tutorial! Does the new update still have this feature as well as the specific new hue colour change as , having just discovered this range mask and what it does, I'm wondering whether to update?
Excellent tutorial. Can you describe how to use range masking with luminance to desperate intrusive objects like twigs for e.g. in wildlife photographs?
Thank you! I will add that to the list. Although, in many of those instances, it's sometimes faster and easier to remove them entirely with the spot removal tool. Either way, luminance range mask video coming soon!
Yep! That’s why the color range mask is so useful in this situation. If the subject was a different brightness than the surroundings we would use a luminance range mask.
Thanks for a a clear, quick useful tutorial. I have one presentation tip though. Your hands move constantly like you're playing a drum set to the cadence of your voice and it is quite distracting.
Can you give a quick rough explanation on how to do this in the current version? It looks so simple on your screen but my Lightroom looks completely different from yours
This video was made years ago, sadly you will need to watch a much more recent video on how to do this in the current Lightroom. Someday we will make an updated version of all our older videos for the current updates. Again, nothing is truly current as Lightroom is constantly improving and changing which makes it harder to always keep up to date videos.
Yep! With the newer versions of LR, you can use the Hue sliders in the local adjustment tool to completely change the color of anything you want in your images.
Unfortunately these tools specifically were released in Lightroom CC and aren’t available in Lightroom 6. If you can swing the monthly cost, I highly recommend upgrading to Lightroom Classic CC.
Because you can make it that color with a color overlay and the right combination of luminance and white balance. It also makes it easier to see the clean selection with that obvious of a color shift 👍
In the meantime, here is a link to an older (unpublished) tutorial on the local adjustment brush: drive.google.com/file/d/1ELdmpp80_B79M_l8rzp8qXw9FmO7M7mK/view?usp=sharing
The thumbnail suggests the range mask can help you change the hat from blue to red which is not the case. Was the thumbnail just designed for click bait?
Nope. The thumbnail is showing the red overlay mode that you can turn on with the letter “O” to see where the range mask is affecting. The thumbnail is to show how accurate the selection can be and I figured the only way to show that was by turning on the mask overlay.
Ah, Lightroom would be such a fantastic tool. If only Adobe weren't such asshats about piracy and would simply let you download an installer that you can do with as you wish.
Excellent. Concise, to the point. No clowning around.
Thank you!

Perfect explanation of how this works in LR. Thanks.
Thank you!
Very well explained and nice summarizing at the end of the video
I was attracted to the tutorial because it seemed to indicate you could use this feature to change the color of something in your photo, but you never touched on that. Can colors be swapped using this feature?
They can now! The new version of Lightroom allows you to completely change colors if you want to.
Excellent video and explanation. Can you please give the link all your teaching lightroom videos..Thanks
If you go to our channel there is a Playlist with all of our Lightroom videos 👍
So, this idea of color masking made me think of the setting in my Canon, the option to adj the temp scale and also magenta/greens, cold/warm. Do you ever adj your camera to color settings?
Not really. Simply because you can change it so much easier with the white balance in LR.
That is a nice selection! But, if we want to adjust the HSL and hue just in that selected part, what we should do!
Use Photoshop 😁😁😁
great tutorial, great person. Thanks thats quality!
Thanks!
Great tutorial! Does the new update still have this feature as well as the specific new hue colour change as , having just discovered this range mask and what it does, I'm wondering whether to update?
Yes it does!
“Pu pu pu pu!” Awesome.
Great tutorial, thanks!

GAME CHANGER!
Absolutely awesome video, congratulations
Thank you!
there is no range mask in my lightroom cc 7.1 help
thanks you brother for teaching this
Great video, to the point! Thanks for keeping it short!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
Great video.....keep them coming!
Thank you! We will!
cool vid. Love it
Thank you!
Excellent , but the blue hat is a very different hue from the surrounding so its easier
Yep! That’s why the color range mask is so useful in this situation. If the subject was a different brightness than the surroundings we would use a luminance range mask.
Great 👍 thanks
Thank you
You are welcome!
brilliant
Well Done
Thanks!
Grea video. Thanks. Could you do a video on how you took out the background in the image of you in the video? That looks really good.
Thank you! Great idea. I'll add it to the list of future videos we make!
Could we also cahnge the color totally? Lets say from a blue cap to a red one?
Yes, with local adjustments. But Lightroom makes it way harder than Photoshop to do that.
Cool girl!! And explaining :)
Thank you!
Thanks for a a clear, quick useful tutorial. I have one presentation tip though. Your hands move constantly like you're playing a drum set to the cadence of your voice and it is quite distracting.
how to change the overlay color from red, green, black. thanks for the. video
Just go under the top menu to Tools > Adjustment Brush Overlay
Now I know. Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Well done.
Thanks Jim!
I've been researching and as far as I know, masking is not available in the new lightroom cc?
Not sure. Honestly I've never worked with Lightroom CC. I only use Classic.
Can you give a quick rough explanation on how to do this in the current version? It looks so simple on your screen but my Lightroom looks completely different from yours

@@forestchaput I did but it didn't answer my question so I thought I'd just ask
Can u completely change the color
Yep! With the newer versions of LR, you can use the Hue sliders in the local adjustment tool to completely change the color of anything you want in your images.
can u change the hue of the color doing this?
Yep!
Now do you have one on range mask + Luminance? :D
Thank you! Coming soon!
is there an option like that in lr cc mobile app
Please version of Lightroom
This feature has now been replaced by the new local adjustment tools. You can learn more here: ruclips.net/video/YOHsBk9676s/видео.html
Are these same masking tools and gradient masking features available in Lightroom 6, not just Lightroom CC? Does anybody know?
Unfortunately these tools specifically were released in Lightroom CC and aren’t available in Lightroom 6. If you can swing the monthly cost, I highly recommend upgrading to Lightroom Classic CC.
So.. Where is the red cap?
That was just done for the thumbnail. All you need to do is drag the Hue sliders in HSL further than I did in the video.
Why does your preview show two different colored hats?
Because you can make it that color with a color overlay and the right combination of luminance and white balance. It also makes it easier to see the clean selection with that obvious of a color shift 👍
Didn't see the `How to use the Paint Brush' video
Great catch! That video will be out later this week!

Hahaha. They do make excellent software!
could you change the hue of that selected color?
