I went to this game in Philadelphia with my Dad. After JHU's win, as we walked back to the car, my Dad (who saw Stan Musial hit a baseball and Bobby Orr play hockey) told me, "That may have been the best sporting event I ever attended." I miss you, Pops.

I was there too! 16 years later it still resonates with me, the long lightning storm delay, wind whipping through the stadium, goal with 1.4 seconds left, and the speedy defensive middie getting the winner. Glad you got to share this one with your Dad. JHU-Duke-UVA had some scary good teams.

Greatest lacrosse game I’ve ever seen. No question about it.

Insane game. The weather changed and UVA had all the momentum. Long break let the trainers work on Kyle’s back. The Bryne equalizer and Erwin with the winner. Insane game. UVA went on to win in ‘06 then JHU in ‘07 again. What a game!

Probably the best lacrosse game I have ever seen in 40+ years as a fan. Truly legendary. Thanks for posting it.

I was just a little kid when this aired on TV, but I'll never forget watching it. My family's been a big fan of Hopkins (and college lacrosse in general) for years, and we were really rallying for them to win the championship that year since they had such a good team and were undefeated up to that point. We were really holding our breath as it got closer to the end of the game, especially when they went into overtime. When Hopkins scored, I breathed a huge sigh of relief and my dad started crying happy tears. It was an even happier day when the championship happened. Without a doubt one of the best (if not THE best) teams Hopkins has ever produced.
Thank you so much for posting this! It's so awesome to see a piece of my childhood again!

OMG! Thanks so much for posting this! Some of the most crazy later moments of a lacrosse game as there has ever been.

Those UVA Gait helmets were atrocious. I remember when those first hit the market all us kids wanted them though

I used one for about 5 years. Lighter and more comfortable than Cascades were at the time but they were weird looking.

These guy's circle around and hold on it too much looking for perfect shot. What happened to fast breaks. I dunno this ain't like the 70s or 80s.something has changed. Stick style seems different. Not close in. Pulled back a lot of stick showing. Has pocket depth changed? Still a good game though but jus wondering. Seems like modern day premier league football. Spread out
