+Username I passed my driving test yesterday. My father than rang me to congratulate me a few hours later and i declined the call. At least you have a father to teach you to drive.
Good stuff! Hope this helps out new drivers quite a bit. I'd like to add some less essential tips: 1. Learn how to back up and park backwards into your stall facing forward. This gives you much better visibility when you're exiting your space and can cut down on a lot of headache when you're trying to leave a busy parking lot. 2. Also, don't rely on your brakes so much. Use following distance and ease off the gas and you'll find that a lot of times, in lower speed situations, you won't have to break or break nearly as much. 3. Know rules of the road. Knowing right of way in various situations will cut down on being overly hesitant and make you safer, in general. 4. When making turns of any kind, if your visibility is obstructed, never assume the way is clear just because the vehicle in front of you made the turn. Confirm that for yourself to keep everyone safe. 5. Modify your driving habits (mostly speed) based on the weather. 6. Know how to do simple maintenance and repairs on your vehicle (especially how to change a tire/plug a flat). Practice them ahead of time so you're familiar with them so that if you actually do need to use them, you're not solely relying on your phone or what have you. In the same vein, prep your vehicle for emergencies that are common to your area as well as stock it with basic first aid/survival and tools. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. 7. You can set your side mirrors so that it virtually eliminates blind spots. There are plenty of videos on RUclips that demonstrate this. It's not full proof, obviously, but works fantastically well rather than the old method of setting said side mirrors inwards. 8. If you can afford to, go to a driving school to learn (hopefully) updated driving techniques from professionals. Family and friends can usually only "help" you so much, and their help can be counterproductive/useless. ;)
Very good tips. As for number 7 though, even though it might work in some situations, there are times where you'll never see someone coming towards you unless you turn your head and check the blind spot. I'll cover that in a future video. Also, at the exam, you will have to turn your head no matter how wide you adjust your side mirrors. If you don't, you fail.
Conduite Facile Agreed. It's still better to check the old fashioned way but can save you some time. Plus, as you mentioned, there are things you have to do to pass the test which is understandable.
This wonderful man saved my life and FINALLY got my drivers after 37 years of being terrified. I love driving now and it changed my life! He basically tells you everything that no one lol tells you. Best video’s out there!
00:03 Fuel cap 0:28 mirror 0:45 turn wheel in direction you want to go 1:33 How to know if wheels are straight 2:21 Beware when exiting a 90 degree parking in reverse 2:56 one or two-way street? 3:16 hidden stop signs 3:45 go from a stopped position on a steep hill 4:10 key won't turn 4:30 blinded by the lights
The tip to know if the wheels are straight: often you are in a narrow spot when doing this... it often helps turning the whell to the side where you came from until you cant turn them more, and then you turn them back and skip the first straight steering wheel position (normally you need 1.5 to 1.75 full turns)...
Lol he's from Montreal tho. I just clicked on this video in preparation of my CAA in car driving class. And I was so surprised to see MY CITY in this video!! My city is so dedicated to their future drivers lol, I'm proud
For the wheels straight, you can turn the wheel all the way to the right or left, and turn it back to its 2nd straight postion or exactly 1,5 twists. For example. if you are not able to move forward, or when youve parked the car.
As a Quebecer who's recently started his practical driving courses, these videos are beyond amazing. Right now my biggest problems are stopping too late, sometimes turning, and sticking too much to the left-hand side of lanes. I'm still getting used to the sensitivity of the pedals so my starts and stops are a little jerky, but I'm slowly getting it. I think my biggest fear right now is everything concerning highway driving (entering, yielding, and changing lanes at fast speeds).
Acromat /ak-roh-mat/ I barely started learning 2 days ago I feel like my I'm progressing with everything except my right turns well today towards the end of my driving lesson I was getting the hang of it , but my biggest problem was turn the wheel too fast or too much it was confusing to me but I think I'm getting the hang of it already
Irvin Arias Not bad. Unfortunately I'm not really able to practice outside of my classes, but I'm happy to say I'm not a horrible driver, haha - although I have much to learn. On Monday I'll be driving on the highway for the first time. Very intimidating but I have a great teacher. I'm glad to get it out of the way before it starts snowing.
Acromat /ak-roh-mat/ Its been a while but how much have you progressed in your driving? I am also scared to drive on the highway especially the yielding and switching lanes..
One major tip my driving instructor gave: on twisty roads (a common thing in my area) and especially in a two way it's always best to brake and turn instead of slowing down and turning. Or even if you don't actually brake, you should always have your foot on the brake. This will help you brake in time in case something happens. There won't be a delay in reaction.
it changes the position of the inside mirror so the lights coming from the one behind you will not reflect forward to affect your vision but rather upward.. or somethin` like that
Exactly. Actually, there are two mirrors in the rearview mirror. One that reflects about 20% of light, and one that reflects about 80%. In the normal position, you see the 80% one. When you flip the little lever, you see the 20% one, and the light reflected from the 80% one reflects over your head, like Andrei said. If you don't have that little lever, your mirror adjusts automatically (it's called electrochromism).
I actually learned to drive better by myself or with having my cousin and friends with me. They’d usually stay calm and be chill when I’m driving. They would actually encourage me and make jokes and play music whenever we drove. My parents on the other hand would get nervous or keep telling me to be careful every 5 seconds. Eventually they stopped after everyone told them that I’m a fine driver. I love going out on late night drives with my cousin and friends. The roads are usually empty so we’d cruise for a while and then stop somewhere and play music and chill.
One VERY IMPORTANT tip: when getting gas, if you want unleaded, read the labels on the gas pump and MAKE SURE you are using the correct nozzle. The unleaded nozzle could be any color: black, red, blue, etc. (in my area the unleaded nozzles are black). Make 100% sure you aren't accidentally grabbing the DIESEL or ETHANOL (E20, E30, E85, etc.) nozzles if your car needs unleaded. (In my area, the diesel nozzles are green, but they could also be several other colors). If you aren't 100% sure, go inside and ask the clerk. This can be a very expensive tow and repair bill for your car if you accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill your unleaded tank with diesel. It happens more often than you would think. And the repair won't be covered by the warranty, of course, and may not be covered by your insurance. Another clue that you accidentally grabbed the diesel nozzle is that it won't fit inside the hole on your unleaded gas tank, although it's still possible to hold the nozzle to the hole and fill the tank with diesel. The unleaded nozzle will fit ALL THE WAY inside the hole, deep into your gas tank. If you DO happen to accidentally grab the wrong nozzle and fill the unleaded tank with diesel, don't drive the car. Immediately call a tow truck and be towed from the gas station to a repair shop where they can drain and clean your fuel tank. Driving the car will only cause significantly more expensive damage.
I live in a big city (nyc) and i just started driving not too long ago. This channel has taught me a lot when i was getting my license and i still watch these videos daily to improve my driving. Thank you Conduit Facile !!
Very helpful. Especially for me who doesn't have that much of experience in driving, just had my license last week, and now sweetly forced by my mom to drive for her.
2:06 If you don't grip the wheel when driving forward, the wheel will return to the straight position by itself because of the pressure on the front wheels.
I love this video because I'm a new driver and these tips are so true. This driving information also helps me to not get in trouble with police and stay alive.😀🙋👍
I’m currently 19 years old and tired of my parents not wanting to teach me how to drive so I’ve been learning on myself. I’m not afraid to get on the road, which is a good thing because my mom was before she learned to drive. Daily I’ve been taking my mom’s car with her on the passenger seat or without her. I’ve been feeling more confident now, although I’m not using the mirrors as I should, but I’m improving myself one step at a time. This video has been very helpful, my favorite is knowing if the street is one-way or not, since down town has one-way streets. . Thank you!
tip #3 is a life changer 😂 the tip I can share here as a newbie driver is to not focus on your speedometer too much, just take a quick glance at it. This one might only apply to me because of my height but make your side mirrors a little higher up angled than what looks nice before driving so you can see vehicles better when going downhill
If I'm blinded by a car behind, with full beams on, I give him a taste of fog lights on the back, sometimes blinking it, until he realizes, and turns it off :D
or you just lean out the window and pull with fingers at him ;) (yes ive done that before, he was following me for ages and it was blinding me from my wing mirrors after doing the central mirror thing)
Great video sir. Quick and to the point. My wife is learning to drive and I wouldn't have thought to tell her all of these useful tips as I've been driving for 25 years. The gas tank side and the wheel direction with intended direction are especially helpful. Thanks bud!
I hear you. People that have been driving for that long just do those things instinctively, and don't understand why it doesn't come naturally to beginners.
Look at 90% of people on the road and you'll realize you're ok. Lol I've literally only heard people say stuff about how bad they did and how they're surprised they even got a liscence.
Ok but hearing what I’ve been doing wrong from the video but the voice isn’t yelling at me is so calming and reassuring. Wish parents would have patience when teaching their kids how to drive.
honestly this is the 1-st video where I actually understood something I guess it's bcz u were talking slower & giving the advice in a more understandable way Today was my 1-st day ever on the wheel and I can't wait for the next time :D
It's easy once you get used to it. Driving might look scary when you're watching others drive but when you're actually behind the wheel yourself and have control of the vehicle, it's easy and fun! I have my permit and have been practicing for like 2 months now. Not as scary as I thought! Driving requires lots of attention so as long as you keep your eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel, you'll have no issues. Good luck to you all :)
I've been mentally freaking out because I'm 16, and going to be driving soon. My biggest fear has always been parallel parking, but hearing someone describe it take some stress off. This was helpful.
I never thought of looking at reflections off other cars to check for pedestrians, or to check the signs on the opposite side of the street or corner, this video is very helpful!
Number #8 You do not need to use the handbrake on a manual car. You can find the tensile mode with the clutch and just then give some gas. Way better imo.
+Sir. Swaglord When you get the first gear on, and you release the clutch very light. The moment just before the car starts to move forward, Thats tensile mode :)
+Mohammed Mustafa oh I see... Most places use the term "biting point". It is easier to use that method, but for a learner who hasn't fully learnt clutch control its way harder, and causes panic, due to the roll back
A tip regarding when the steering wheel is straight that my grandfather told me is that the wheel will remain level if you let go of it (foot on the break, of course!) if the tires are straightened.
My first week after getting my license I went to the store for some stuff and when I got back my key wouldn't turn for shit! I was so frustrated because it was 110°f outside. I finally had to call my mom and she told me what I needed to do lol.
Great tips! I like the reflection on the side of parked cars, while looking for people on sidewalks and the looking at the back of signs to know if you are on a one way or two way street. Very helpful.
Thank you for putting this video on here. My wife has only recently got her licence in Brazil, and to be honest, where she learned to drive was totally insufficient for going out on the road by herself, as they didn't even teach her manoeuvering of any kind, let alone driving in traffic. It was all done with only school cars, and in a park! I, and some of her friends, have been taking her out driving, and her confidence is a lot better, but my patience with her in the car, is not the best. lol. This video has explained it very well visually. She has a far better understanding of the use of the steering wheel now. Once again, many thanks.
+Memo3941 this is true. but i know many cars put the fuel meter on the side of the cluster that the tank is on. my 02 jetta is like this, but it may be coinsidence. check it out on cars and let me know.
+Memo3941 As a general rule, I've found that cars manufactured in right hand drive countries have the filler cap on the left side (regardless of whether the car itself is right or left hand drive), and cars manufactured in left hand drive countries have the filler cap on the right side (regardless of whether the car itself is right or left hand drive). The only exception to this I have noticed is Holden (as manufactured in Australia, a right hand drive country), which mostly has the filler cap on the right side, but since they stole most of the body designs for their Commodores from ten-year-old German Opel models (from a left hand drive country), the general rule technically holds true. The rationale? The original designs are supposed to have the filler cap on the passengers side for convenience, but they don't change them around when manufacturing for the "opposite hand drive" for reasons of cost.
general rule... perhaps. but remember, there are three types of cars. male cars (filler on drivers side). female cars (filler on passenger side). this is for the archaic 'men do the driving while women are passengers'. now i said there were 3 types. the last one is the gay cars. i dont like the term, but they are old refrences. in this case the filler is in the back of the car, generally under an emblem.
I think it's because these tips are for COMPLETE beginners, e.g. who have just gotten their driving license. The dislikers thought that they'll learn something but they didn't read the title therefore it's a bad video therefore it requires a dislike.
And videos with alot of views (especially nearly 7 million) gets dislikes pretty much without fail. It looks like it has a lot of dislikes, but usually videos with this many views has at least 100k or more likes. It doesn't actually have that many dislikes
Conduite Facile I liked your videos.these videos are helping me in learning driving as I am a beginner. But I would like to watch more videos regarding roundabouts.please help me in learning
Conduite Facile in that case, the arrow is there.. i have yet to see a car with the nozzle in the wrong side, and no arrow.. so it is either an arrow, or simply the nozzle, even tried asking a local car dealer, if they had a car, where the fuel indicator had no arrow, and the nozzle was on the wrong side, with no luck finding one.. would love to have an example of a car where this happens.
+pesoen I thought too at first that it had to be either the arrow or the nozzle. Was kind of disappointed to find out that some cars don't follow either. I also saw another model once with that same "problem". Don't remember now what model it was though.
+Edgar Joaquim That was definitely the goal he will never forget. Ever! Most important goal in the history of Portuguese football. Pepe was awesome too, as were the whole team. Agora é pensar no mundial 2018. Força Portugal!!
Tip #6 confused me: "If you see the front of the signs (e.g. stop signs) it means it's a one way street". But that's not always the case as far as I know...
"How do you know your wheels are straight?". I'm sorry but I find that hilarious. Errrr...if you move and you don't go straight, your wheels won't be straight! How did we ever learn anything before the internet? Although to be fair the fuel tank one was very useful. I honestly never noticed that before but I've always known where the fuel cap on my car is. Next time I get into my car I'll have to see if my car has an arrow lol.
+Collins LFC Things that seem so obvious for experienced drivers are mistakes that 90% of apprentice drivers do or things they don't know. That's why their parents/husbands/boyfriends/friends scream at them so much when practicing. I've been teaching driving for 10 years. Believe me, none of these tips is obvious for most new drivers.
+DanTheSasquatch There are situations where it is recommended. Like this one. They even recommend you use it to dry your brakes after passing over a puddle of water. It's actually a question that might be in the theory exam.
+Conduite Facile Yeah, but they also recommend(here in the United States at least) really unintelligent methods of steering too. I just personally disagree with it because it may form a habit, and left foot brake users invariably get mixed up acc drive through a store front or some other such nonsense. Just my opinion though.
+DanTheSasquatch I agree with you on that and I'm always telling my students to take their left foot off the brake. But in very rare occasions this tip might come in handy. Very rare where I live at least. For somebody that lives in San Francisco it might not be that rare :)
If I'm confused whether or not my wheels are straight, I simply turn the wheels fully towards the left or the right, and turn them the other direction twice.
Where is this? The stop sign is in French but it looks like the United States (I'm an European (who speaks among other languages, French, who visited the US)... Is this a certain part in Canada? :)
true, as a guy one of the first lessons my dad taught me (after the basics) was driving in reverse. I'd driven around the parking lot 10 times before ever going on an actual road.
Damn! You got right to the point, listing the tips, not fucking around for 10 mins before it, you are awesome
yeah thats why i like his videos. xD

Most of those might be just common sense for expirianced drivers, but for someone who just started driving courses it was very helpful, thanks!

Not a bad idea actually.
or you just lean out the window and pull with fingers at him ;) (yes ive done that before, he was following me for ages and it was blinding me from my wing mirrors after doing the central mirror thing)
why "he"? sexist!

Good practical tips. I don't know what country this was in, but these tips are useful for anyone.
Michelle Donati Montreal, Canada
Just perfect! No narcissism. Everything is helpful, you don’t want to miss a second! I don’t usually write reviews, but this guy is perle rare!
Wow I can’t believe a video from 9 years ago has this much useful information! Thank you for making this practical and straight to the point
Good tips! I especially love the one about blocked stop signs.
5 years after learning how to drive i still suck at it
same here.
its ok, your not the first and you won't be the last.
Look at 90% of people on the road and you'll realize you're ok. Lol
I've literally only heard people say stuff about how bad they did and how they're surprised they even got a liscence.
Ok but hearing what I’ve been doing wrong from the video but the voice isn’t yelling at me is so calming and reassuring. Wish parents would have patience when teaching their kids how to drive.
Extremely helpful for someone new to driving
honestly this is the 1-st video where I actually understood something
I guess it's bcz u were talking slower & giving the advice in a more understandable way
Today was my 1-st day ever on the wheel and I can't wait for the next time :D
This was so helpful. Thank you!
hello
Sage Benenati hi
u are hawt
My glasses better than yours
thanks. I will remember this for two years, when I start driving.

Cole Jackson it’s fun, I just got my license

Awesome video, especially for a beginner like me taking driving lessons. Kudos from India 👍
I watched your videos and it helped me a lot. I passed my road test today! Thank you so much for your work!!!

U are amazing. U give tips which we need the most and i like the way u talk.

You do not need to use the handbrake on a manual car. You can find the tensile mode with the clutch and just then give some gas. Way better imo.
Tensile mode? What's that?
+Mohammed Mustafa Handbrake is waaay easier for beginners.
+Sir. Swaglord When you get the first gear on, and you release the clutch very light. The moment just before the car starts to move forward, Thats tensile mode :)
+Mohammed Mustafa oh I see... Most places use the term "biting point". It is easier to use that method, but for a learner who hasn't fully learnt clutch control its way harder, and causes panic, due to the roll back
Sir. Swaglord Oh right. My bad, well. When you do get the hand out of it, you'll be like a pro on the hills. Everything needs practice.
That last one is a good tip
I LOVE LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS AS A NEW DRIVER STILL:)
Thanks so much. This is why I love RUclips.
You helped me so much!!!! I'll be doing my test on Tuesday. I hope I pass:(
did you pass?
James Shopland 3 years later...we still don't know
Hamza Aman Haha I think something went wrong during his test
4 years later,we still don't know
you know how hard it is to find a useful and informational video for beginners?? THANK YOU
I dont even think my parents know these tips hahah
Great tips! I like the reflection on the side of parked cars, while looking for people on sidewalks and the looking at the back of signs to know if you are on a one way or two way street. Very helpful.
This video is good. Tip 4 how to know when the wheels are straight was really helpful.
Being a very new driver, this video was very helpful! Thanks for putting it together!

I wish I can give you 100 million likes!!! Thanks a lot!! Brilliant video!!
I've been driving for 5 years now and did not know about the thing on the mirror at all. Now I do. Thank you.
Why am I watching this, I've had my driving licence for 2 years LOOOOL
+Robert Pihl u r lucky
i have a driving test in a week and iam already nervous :(
+Robert Pihl I've had my license 2 months and I found it helpful.

Conduite Facile No problem
came here after passing my road test, your videos helped me a lot! thanks man
The last tip has been my problem for months now and I am very grateful
Not all cars have the gas guide pump
+Memo3941 this is true. but i know many cars put the fuel meter on the side of the cluster that the tank is on. my 02 jetta is like this, but it may be coinsidence. check it out on cars and let me know.
+Memo3941 If it doesn't have an arrow the gas tank icon will be on the side of the gas tank lid.
***** well, technically, the gas tank... is central. for weight balance. we are only talking about the fill spout.
These are really good tips I don't know why it has dislikes
I think it's because these tips are for COMPLETE beginners, e.g. who have just gotten their driving license. The dislikers thought that they'll learn something but they didn't read the title therefore it's a bad video therefore it requires a dislike.
And videos with alot of views (especially nearly 7 million) gets dislikes pretty much without fail. It looks like it has a lot of dislikes, but usually videos with this many views has at least 100k or more likes. It doesn't actually have that many dislikes
Manual cars are the best.
yup. what car do u have/your parents?
Sale Gaming5 I have a Suzuki WagnoR, MANUAL
Aadil Williamson hmpf, asian Opel Agila.
My mom has a 1990/1991 Ford Escort CLX. also manual. great car.
What's hmpf? No The one I have is Suzuki WAGNOR
Aadil Williamson i know. but it looks like an asian Opel Agila.
your videos are great! and I passed my road test last week using your parallel parking technique! thank you so much!
+iroxyasoxs Cool. Congrats!
Wow! Reversing while turning has always confused me but this made it all clear thank you!!
Nice videos, but new drivers sould know this already!!!! How did you pass your exam if you don't know how to turn the wheel when you back up?!
+HightLink A lot of them don't. Believe me. I've been teaching for 10 years.
Conduite Facile Not in my contry... here you drive well or you bribe
Conduite Facile I liked your videos.these videos are helping me in learning driving as I am a beginner. But I would like to watch more videos regarding roundabouts.please help me in learning
the arrow is sometimes just the nozzle of the pump.. it varies from car to car.
True, but sometimes not even the nozzle points in the direction of the hole.
+pesoen I have a car in Portugal, Honda civic 94, no arrow, the pump nozzle is on the right and the hole is on the left.
Conduite Facile interesting, gonna have to look into that..
+pesoen I thought too at first that it had to be either the arrow or the nozzle. Was kind of disappointed to find out that some cars don't follow either. I also saw another model once with that same "problem". Don't remember now what model it was though.
This guy sounds like Cesar vialpando from San andreas😂😂
Thank you so much sir, I take my lessons in France but no french instructor is as good as you. This is so clearly explained thank you.
Thank you very much for these helpful tips

+Edgar Joaquim That was definitely the goal he will never forget. Ever! Most important goal in the history of Portuguese football. Pepe was awesome too, as were the whole team. Agora é pensar no mundial 2018.
Força Portugal!!
even after 12 yrs of driving , these tips were so useful .especially the fuel tank indicator which I had never noticed .
Thank you so much! I'm a new driver and want to make sure I don't make any mistakes or cause road rage for anybody.
I was fine until you advocated using the left foot on the brake pedal. using your left foot for acting but the clutch is a bad idea in my opinion.
+Conduite Facile As long as it isn't a habit =)
DanTheSasquatch Left foot braking is not nearly the same as texting and driving, where is your brain?
your videos have been helping me study for my driver's test coming up soon. Very Helpful!
Good luck!
If I'm confused whether or not my wheels are straight, I simply turn the wheels fully towards the left or the right, and turn them the other direction twice.
Actually, it's one and a half, but yes, that works too.
Got my first car a Miata
Where is this? The stop sign is in French but it looks like the United States (I'm an European (who speaks among other languages, French, who visited the US)...
Is this a certain part in Canada? :)

I just drove on a main road with traffic for the first time today. I’m so excited to keep driving.
Its awesome.. there are surely a handful of instructors who give such best tips so clearly and concisely! Cheers👏✌️
Car guys are giving them selves the classic facepalm
+Sam Humphreys This is not a video for car guys. It's for beginners. Happy new year bro.
I respect that some of these might not be so easy/obvious for many people, but I'm 15 and I knew all of them because common sense/general curiosity
+Fraancisco Gomes You wouldn't believe how many people lack general curiosity. Good thing you have it.
+Conduite Facile It must help a lot that I love cars too so I just keep asking questions and pay atention to what drivers do
+Fraancisco Gomes good for you then. Not all people are like you. So yeah. Cheers.

true, as a guy one of the first lessons my dad taught me (after the basics) was driving in reverse. I'd driven around the parking lot 10 times before ever going on an actual road.

You're welcome, and congrats!
