$108, you sell at 150, TCG takes 10%, that’s $15 and 3% for cc processing, so let’s call it $20. Your $150 just turned into 130. Then you spend $5-10 shipping. So 125. 108 cold. $17 profit is what you clear. So about 15% 🤷♂️ Let’s pump the brakes on the 50%.
Well I don't think he's selling on TCG.. He's buying from them for the discounts. At a higher level, You would have your own site and making more profit. So it does add up.
I mean ill break down 2 recent examples of how I have done this both short and long: SVBase(last 6 months): cost basis $81~ currently 130 a box, even after shipping and fee's since I will generally sell this as a case I will be around 55-58% if I sold today Chilling Reign (last 2 years): Also around $81~ a box, now around 240 or around 200% profit. Generally speaking selling on tcgplayer for Pokémon sealed is suboptimal unless its a time thing. Selling on open markets or privately I can generally get within a single digit % of tcglow if not within 1-3% of tcglow even factoring in my shipping fee's. So yes this math does check out, no one has a instant 50% money glitch in life so some patience and waiting is implied in the 50% if anyone had that kind of infinite money glitch they would certainly never talk about it haha.
Ok flookie, so the max credit (at 10%), for 1 item is $50. So if I buy 1 item for $500, I get back $50 credit. If I buy 1 item for $4,200, I get back only $50 credit.
As the other commenters mentioned its about the savings per item cap that matters not so much the cost of the booster box. The goal is to totally min max the sales returns so you can make the most instant ROI/cash back and create the most optimal scenerio for your long term sealed holdings :)
Nice video very informative and I think about this all the time! I saw that you were at 999 subs so happy to hit that sub and make you 1k! congratulations!!!
Yup was just pointing out its one of the closet boxes to $150 but doesn't really count still since your gonna go past the 150 on the taxes and shipping in most states but some states you avoid those haha
Yea my margins are honestly insane on pokemon products. I did this with the sword and shield era stuff and im pushing 300% on some of the boxes in under 4 years which is just unheard of lol.
Awesome! Its a great chill place to be long term and historically you should do very well :) just make sure you diversify and get a bunch of stuff and not all of 1 thing lol xD
Glad it helped! They normally do 2 major ones outside of holidays roughly 6 months months apart, then they will also do them from time to time on holidays. Like they recently announced a cyber Monday sale at the end of Nov that's 10-13% so I will be acquiring a fair number of boxes mores then likely during that sale :)
There's a market for these "inside baseball" tips and maneuvers on running a card/game/comic shop. We all have pondered opening up a shop but there's not really any resources online on how they do so. Thanks for the insight. Keep it up
i love selling singles on ebay and was thinking about getting more serious about selling cards and eventually making a legit online card shop. The thing that makes me hesitant is the realization of profit margin. This is especially true when I buy an item for less than $5 and sell it for $90+.
You young guys and your business plans. Kinda like fishing, let everybody know your plan and your spots and It all goes to shit real quick. When you find a glitch in the matrix keep it to yourself. Margins are too low to make any significant amount of money consistently.
Thankfully this glitch is announced everywhere and seems to be generally public hahaha xD we will see if anyone else is able to really abuse this. TCGPlayer generally just doesn't get to enjoy the tasty fee's for a day lmao xD
With how large the poke market it is, its hard to tell often times if its "filthy investors" or just genuine massive supply drain from people opening and collecting. The good news is if you have a 10-20 year outlook on things you will always weather those ups and downs in the long term :)
Collectibles don't have compound interest and cost TONS of money to liquidate though. One scammer getting one box for free eats any profit you made on what, two cases? I'll take one click at my brokerage over that.
You are correct but there are ways to loop profit back into your business and accomplish the same thing :) but one is definitely less effort then the other haha
Honest question as I don't know the tcg space. Are sealed boxes of pokemon not potentially hurt by the prospect of ct scanning? Is the game so popular to play, that it doesn't matter if you can detect rare cards in the boxes? I thought ct scanning was going to be too expensive to become large scale, but it sounds like the machines can be fairly attainable. I think it will greatly impact the sportscard space. Not sure about other markets.
It wont matter for poke or mtg, scanning the box is expensive enough at even if someone is paying 20-50 bucks to see the top 2 packs or bottom 2 packs your probably gonna just open it anyway. Then to pay pack by pack is also cost inefficient when frankly you can just weigh the heavy packs and open them anyway accomplishing the same thing without spending all the money on the ct scans. Needless to say if a box is less then 500 bucks it wont ever get scanned, and generally speaking its more of a "timmy" trap then anything. Sports is a valid point since they have so many 1-10 card boxes and random single card special release things i could see that turning into a problem long term. But I also have no idea if anyone has tried to CT scan those crazy packaging's in sports either so who knows, I generally stay very far away from sports cards
He means historically speaking. Of course past results cannot predict the future, but historically speaking, every Pokemon box -- no matter how unpopular -- has trended upwards.
@@ByronVorster folks lose their jobs and go to prison over false financial advice and insider trading. Get swept up by all means, but remember anything too good to be true, always is.
Idk man it seems like everything youre saying, that makes it so obvious the market will crash and/or be volitile. If its THAT good, its not going to be sustainable.
Its just a patience and belief thing man, Pokémon is just such a astronomical monster of a machine that its just unrivaled. Even when I was in japan recently they have stuff all over cities and even on city man hole covers there are random Pokémon stuff apparently haha.
I wonder how the market would balance out if TCG resellers realized that they can just invest in an S&P 500 ETF and retire with the amount of money they're pouring in for $20 of profit and all of this work.
Some people just wanna stay busy and build a business and there are a variety of tax reasons on top of that. But yes it is much easier to just afk and dump money into the SP500 lol. As for the market balancing, I don't think it would change a whole ton honestly, poke and mtg have such massive player/collector bases that they are very independent generally from what any investors can impact long term on any supply or singles value imo
congrats yall made what is a hobby into a overly expensive thing, all because your to lazy to do actual work. Honestly this dude sounds like someone i would never do business with. Hed just try to loop hole everything.
@hildumpthecow5319 hit the nail on the head...if this has been such a massive market then where was everyone 10 years ago? Let alone 5 years ago? Everyone seems to forget pokemon boxes were on CLEARANCE because no one was buying them! This entire market is literally being propped up on nothing but speculation and hype right now, and that is incredibly volatile in my eyes.
“You cannot lose money on booster boxes” - whenever someone says this, block them. They are dumb and wrong. In finance, you lose your job if you say that to a client
Good counter argument there. What's the issue? They pretty much all go up in price. At least 50-60 dollar increase in SV and some S/S ones were under 100 and now around 180. Easy money.
Honestly I could show any investment person my investment portfolio and they could check thst everything pokeymon I bought has went up a minimum of 300 percent lol in a year
@ right. No set, no matter how bad, will stay at or below that price for a long time. They always creep back up. Even sets like obsidian flames. SV base is right there but it won’t get cheaper in a year.

For pokemon sealed I do not that is correct haha, I broke down the math in the comment above, thanks for seeing the logic!
Congrats on 1k! 🎉
Thanks man! It was a great surprise to get while on the delayed honeymoon haha :D

yessssssssss
How do you buy a booster box when they’re above $50? You’re not making sense.
It caps at saving $50 per item
@ so if I buy a booster box for $100, I save $50? You’re not making sense either.
Ok flookie, so the max credit (at 10%), for 1 item is $50. So if I buy 1 item for $500, I get back $50 credit. If I buy 1 item for $4,200, I get back only $50 credit.

if you sell derivatives in the stonk market. you can do 2% to 10%+ a month
Derivatives scare me almost as bad as unprotected margin calls lol
I've done this and gotten a silver tempest pokemon case for free with the credit lol

Ben is that you >.>
+1 sub!
