I have a question for an elder, I've known two people who have had only bad dreams since they went through the sweat lodge ceremony, very bad dreams night after night. Why and how can they rid themselves of these dreams?
Those dreams are showing your friend where they need healing. Those dreams come in the form of a language that the ancestors use, so we can’t assume to understand them literally. To us, sometimes these dreams just seem scary. There is a lot of symbology and representation that can take many years to learn to understand. Tell your friend to go find a trusted medicine person that can interpret their dreams.
Is this ceremony influenced by Western thought at all? You pay homage to the quaterenary, the four winds of heaven which from a Christian perspective would be the four archangels. The black and white is reminiscent of the Masonic mosaic floor representing duality. You speak of the Creator as in a unique God above all other spiritual beings that restores all things to their original idea, archetype, pattern unchanged from time. Purgation, cleansing and humility are all neccesary prerequisites into entering into deep prayer and meditation in Western mysticism as well.
