Won't be long & we can plow a round and wait for rain while we charge our tractor batteries then repeat! Every farm will have an electrical generating wind turbine where your diesel pump used to be and every barn roof will have China solar panels. But sarcasm aside, really enjoy watching the old iron of my day working a farm as I remember it. Thanks for sharing your videos.
When I start my dream farm I plan on putting solar panels on the machine shed so I would not have to run conduit to the shed. Plus I'll also use the power reserves to do trickle charges on the batteries once per month.
Mulboards and disks dont do you any favors for getting rid of compaction thats for sure . Chisel plow or field cultivator naturally dig into the soil at least but they do struggle to work into hard soils too. Just have to see what the future gives you for conditions. I have been running a chisel and subsoiler over land for 45 years and can still find dead furrows and old end rows where the plows worked it the same away all the time . Thanks for sharing the video its nice to see vintage equipment working still
Wow, that is hard. You have the exact opposite problem we have in the St. Lawrence Valley. Been very wet and cool most of the season. Probably half a dozen fields my boss couldn't get on this year. The T sounds good yanking the plows through the tough spots though. Doing a very good job.
Something to try would be tillage radishes and other cover crops planted with a Deere notill drill. Would probably help that field out by breaking up the clay and starting to add organic matter into it.
The Science of Plowing is almost a lost art, most of the younger kids on farms haven't even seen a plow, let along use one. Keep farming the way you want as it seems to be working for you. We farm the old school way along with you, (Plowing, Disking, Roller harrowing, Planting with a planter that's 50 years old and cultivating. Still pick ear-corn the livestock. Have you had a chance to look over the Super snoot I gave you at the Fair?
Stupid me hit send to soon! Big chunks in that plowing really hard. It does look like you have the plow hitch right on though. I think the T sounds better than 55 ! It really has a growl to it very throaty!! Thanks for sharing young man!!
Ethan, it may sound silly but, you might want to keep an eye out for a "one way" disc plow. Isn't much that can stop them from doing their job. Plus, look into adding some "gypsum" into the soil, that helps break up the clumps, softens it up, you just have to work that stuff in and pray for rain. Have you considered just using a ripper first then the moldboard plow? I mean, that is what a ripper is designed for actually. Great video as always, cheers :)
Awesome video sir, nothing sounds like the 310 turbocharged engine with the straight pipe. My 1750 has a unique sound to but the 1955 just makes me smile while running it. I recently bought a White 4-150 with 3319 hours on it. Everything works even the air conditioning. But I’m needing a door for it, if you know where I can get one I would really appreciate the help
Ethan, I would suggest that you watch some RUclips videos of farmers plowing with reversing (2 way) mould board plows. No back furrows, no dead furrows, no time wasted driving on headlands. Keep on plowing!
Looks like it was pulling good. Ground is hard but you turning it over and covering it good. Also don't seem like a strain on tractor at all. With the exception of a few pulls .
I got 250 acres of the same thing hardest concrete when it's dry. Even when it's got moisture in it it's hard to plow I got a plow just for it eight bottom 18 with 2,000 lb of weight on it. I pull it with a 1586 international and that's all she wants second gear and the torque amplifier in.
Clay will push your plow out of the ground like this. I had a field that had a place that the plow would up on it's points, nothing would make the plow go in the ground in a spot the size of an acre. Good luck!
Time to add the 6th bottom back for the t lol and that land is about as hard as one of my farms it so hard we had to plow it with a 2 bottom plow on a 1600 and the tractor was White it down and that all she wanted but now I have gat a riper to solve that problem for now on
If you double disk it down after a rain and let it lay for a later plow down the moisture won't be pulled out by the vegetation, we often did that. That " T " is a doer, I guess it's spelled correctly.
I used to work with a man in Jackson but his family had a farm in Springport. I was curious if he was still kicking. His name is Dave Dack. Just wondering.
This is just a question because I never plowed like that before but why do you have one door and not the other door on the tractor when when do you want both doors on the tractor or to be too much
The plow he is running is set up as an in furrow plow. The tire on the right sets in the furrow. With the duel on you would run over your freshly plowed ground.
Random, lol, isn't that just part of farming,? Lol. I thought you were plowing concrete for a minute there. It was still a good video. Had the old girl puffing a little smoke under that load. You could definitely see when the plow was coming up. It will happen in time.
The hydraulic reset charged to maximum? You will be surprised if those bottom aren’t exactly flat, those points will pull like a stuck hog in four foot of shit. It really doesn’t take much movement on those bottom to do that and once it starts it hard to stop. I have had to go over the recommended charge in conditions like that. I was raised on that exact plow. One of the problems of the reset. In my opinion.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy I slept a few nights since I was young. I just don’t remember where we set it. But in hard dry clay hills we would “super charge it” as we liked to say. But in normal conditions we backed it down. But I feel your pain as it was the most frustrating thing. The other outfit was a 1800 with a trip bottom 4 bottom and no problems while the reset plow struggled right behind each other. So we knew it was the plow not the conditions. I had a love hate relationship with that plow. Loved it in rocky field and I thought the extra weight was great. But then….
@@Oliver66FarmBoy worth a try. At least you would know if it is really too hard. Could do it for several rounds to be safe. I think we blew a seal once. But out of the 12 years with that plow, never broke a rod, end, or anything on the bottom.
If the plow isn’t going in the ground you’re just wasting diesel and creating compaction. Doesn’t matter how a disk will make it look or who notices. A shit job of plowing is just that. A shit job of plowing.

That plow setup lays the ground over good & the T sounds good too ! You’ve got a good tractor in the 1950T !
Yep
Good evening.
Appreciate your time and effort to put a vlog together.
Watching your hand working the 3pt and the T damn near stop holy shit

I’ve had an 11 shank chisel plow with spikes just skim the ground and rake trash in this field. If it’s to hard to plow it’s to hard to chisel.

I’d say send some this way but I’d like beans to dry down.
I'll will add on T sounds good! We had a good day with beans comming in. 1st good day! Of harvest! Have a great and safe harvest.🍻
Still not much going on here.

Tough to plow concrete. What did turn looked good. Thanks for the update Ethan. Take care. Fred

Iam loving the sound of that turbo
That’s amazing, such difference in soil types up there. I can’t say there is ground that would do that down here.(southeastern Illinois )
This ground is typical for this area.
Almost reminded me of the hay field you plowed up ... That's hard ground !
At least the plow would go in the ground in that hay field.
Man go ahead and plow, I love it, it look good.
Very good video. Your videos are always good never know what you’ll do next on the farm. Holy crap that ground was hard! Chunks
That ole Gal sure does sound good underva load!
Shame that grounds was so hard...

Why? There’s nothing wrong with a semi mount.
Here in PA we have the opposite problem, was dry back when you needed it to rain now when you want it to actually be dry its been raining nonstop
As much as I’d like to have some rain I’d rather it wait till harvest is done.
Great video as always the soil behind your parents brought the T to its knees almost a few times
When it’s dry it’s concrete. When it’s got moisture it will lay over beautiful.
plowing in furrow used to hurt my back... smaller tractor though. Can't find it, make it.
Looks like typical Michigan dirt, I live in the thumb and some of our ground is like that.
She’s sure is singing a great tune!
Yep
All that’s going to do is break equipment. Good call to break off and wait for moisture
So awesome

Seen a Oliver 1750 with a set back wide front end at our local new Holland dealer
Would make a nice tractor
That's some good looking dirt
Love the ole girl snortin 💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏻
Danged discouraging. You can do everything possible to be ready to go maintenance wise, set up wise, then have weather can just screw us over.
I’d still rather be dry in the fall over being a hog wallow.
@@Oliver66FarmBoyOh, I Totally agree, but Id pay good money to see just one good mud puddle right now.

Been having the same problem down here in Ohio can't keep a plow in the ground to save your life if it'll even sink in at all
Dam that ground like concrete. But the T sounds dam good under load.
Yea it does.
What make quick attach do you have on the loader?

Fuel is to expensive for that many passes.
That’s a nice white seat on the T.
Yep
Maybe you might want to try putting on Brand New plow points. That is what worked for me when I couldn't the plow to stay in the ground.
Maybe?
They have 10 acres on them.
We have some blue clay ground we farm and it's like yours really hard when it's dry and when wet it dries really slow
We have a lot of blue/gray clay around here.
The hardest ground I ever plowed was in pasture for 80 years
Some hard ass clay right there
Yep
If I were to get a older Massey Ferguson, I think it would be a 65 or a Super 90.
Just remember. Haters is what builds you not fans
From the outside looking in, seems to me maybe a gauge wheel would make your life easier. Takes all the guess work out of it set it and forget it.
Doesn’t do any good when the plow won’t go in the ground.
I used to work with a man in Jackson but his family had a farm in Springport. I was curious if he was still kicking. His name is Dave Dack. Just wondering.
I don’t know. I don’t live anywhere near there.

Curious what kind of massey did shelly get?
Forgive my ignorance but why do you only have a dual on the left side of the 1950 T? Is there a reason
Because you can’t put a dual in a 16 inch wide furrow.
Man the ground hard it all most killed the tractor in that one spot the ol girl sounds good though
When the pow does decide to go it it’s like hooking an outcrop.

3rd
Looked like you was trying to plow concrete in the field I know I tried to plow up my hay field to reseed it and was having the same issue
How about 4 bottoms instead of 5 in that clay?
That’s not going to get the plow to go in the ground.
When the faucet turns on won't stop. Plow it just don't show it to us

What about plowing with the 4 wheel drive?
On a 5 bottom plow? And that’s not going to make the plow go in the ground.
