Thank you for the tips! You're so transparent and helpful to other RUclipsrs... Very refreshing! I've used many of these same shots on my running videos as well... appreciate you sharing!
You're awesome, Michael. I just started long distance running and I love the way you're able to run at a very good pace and still record yourself. I hope I would be able to do that some day. Thank you for showing us that it can be done and being an inspiration!
So glad I found this again. I ran with my gopro yesterday and got 30 minutes of the street and no sound. Ill be adjusting my settings now before I try again. 👍
This is the video I watched again & again that’s really inspire me to film my own running video, until today. Just bought My DJI Action 4 yesterday Mike, can’t wait to run & film more, thanks to you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I use Final Cut Pro. But any decent non-linear editor would be enough for what I make. Although iOS apps have been very cumbersome and iMovie is a bit limiting
Dude, we're neighbors! It's not often that I stumble on to a Lincoln Park youtuber. :) I'm gonna keep an eye out for you. I run with my dog and am looking for good ways to film us on our runs. This is very helpful. Thank you!
Fantastic masterclass as usual. I also really enjoy watching others like SJD and whatnot, but no one can touch on video and music, really really stunning!
Awesome, I've been contemplating for quite some time filming my trail runs but had zero clue how to not film a complete dumpster fire. Appreciate this one!
i love this i was thinking of using my old hero 5 , to at least document my progress and i can't wait to use this to document where my runnig is and where it gets to
8:30 I need to remember to try this on a race. I think it might be fun to see myself looking at something on the race then pan the camera to what I'm looking at. I'm still looking at your channel but seems like a gimbal isn't needed.
I own a GoPro 3 Plus White, I have used the head shot angle and chest mounted shots just to get different clips to my video. With that said you inspired me to do what I'm trying to do. Although not good in speaking to the camera. I need to practice on that. Hope to meet you one day, thank you for the tips on how make great video. Last thing, I get weird looks from driver's and I don't know if you get that too. Thanks, Mario.
I was just watching one of your other videos and though: how does he does this magic? And then I found this video! Crazy that you did this! Thanks a lot!
Amazing video 🙏 i just got myself an gopro hero 10. I’m documenting my traing block for sub 3:45 marathon in june. I don’t know if just want to film for myself or put it on the Tube 🫣 How would you set up a first episod if you was new filmning a marathon prep? Some simple step by step would help me ❤
Thanks for your video. I came across it the other day and then went out today to run and film with my GoPro. It's definitely all about the different angles and they take practice! I guess I'll be taking the GoPro with me a lot more to try and get better footage.
Wicked tutorial. Thank you. I’ve taken copious amounts of notes! I’m really interested to try some shots with the stick extended vs shortened. Thanks again for sharing.
Getting to the party late, so to speak. Good and still relevant video regardless of done more than a year ago. Bought my first go pro (I do photography and video with a mirrorless), but this is my first "action" camera. And I laughed out loud when your comment about skipping set body mounts. Because of course, that's what I've done, and trying every setting and mode possible. Bottom line, video is horrible. I don't have as much of an issue with the same "boring" view as much as, even with the Hero 10, it's waaaay to much up and down. Tried all stabilization mode, view modes and even different timewarp modes. Just doesn't matter. Hand held stick seems like the only way to make watchable running video. If you disagree or have since found ways to record with an on body mount that works, I'd be curious to know. Thanks
Thanks, I started to run this year and finished my first ever half- marathon on Dec-5th. Inspired by your videos and got myself a brand new GoPro 9 just week ago as a gift for complete the race with good result. Now I'm gonna start to learn some movements and techniques in your videos, try to make some vlogs myself. thanks again for your work and really helped me to try new things!!!
Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to make this video. Just so you know, it was your vlog that got me started (about a year ago) with filming with the insta... running with a selfie stick here in Sunny Singapore where humidity is in the high 90's can be really a hassle because of the amount of sweat that will pour onto the equipment... and as you have found out for yourself, how unrobust the OneX can be when it comes to water... for the long runs where i would like to keep my hands free, ( and again thanks to another one of your videos, where you were answering questions on what do you use to help carry your stuff when you're running) my solution is, to get one of those anti-bounce belts by Compressport designed for trial running, these belts have elastic loops that help to hold the poles, I find shoving the selfie stick into the loops very helpful and they are pretty secure too... Just a question on the OneX, what settings do you use to get the slow mo? Keep running, keep safe and stay healthy!
Nice tips. I was thinking about recording my next marathon. But no way am I carrying anything while trying to run a sub-3 marathon, and I'll take to heart your chest mount/head mount thoughts, so... You've cured me of trying that. But maybe I'll shoot other runs with your tips.
Great tips for other GoPro users. I think you mentioned the 120 fps in an earlier video and I played with it back in February for a race and I really liked the results. You are definitely showing how to get the great angles for shots focusing on the shoes.
I really want to do what you do, just to have visual content for me to look back on when I want to feel my runs visually. But I’m so focused I can’t do what you do. With your explanation, there’s a lot of thought process you put in to share the final product with your audience.
kofuzi that was my long way of saying, after seeing your video, I really appreciate the amount of thought you put into making the content for us. I watch a lot of runners but your camera angles is key differentiation. I’ll take your advice and start what’s manageable for me!
A few questions... I’m wanting to start my own RUclips channel for running, you’ve inspired me. What gear would you say is essential? Right now I’m thinking a GoPro (or alternative), selfie stick, and a ring light. I’m good on the editing side. Do you have any suggestions?
Nice ideas - and tips.... I'm still trying to find a hand held charger with a gyroscope to self level and movement (my friend had one for his Hero7) but can't remember where it came from
i think gimbals are overrated. i'd prefer to spend the money on a better action camera rather than a gimbal, but i also use a lot of slow motion, which helps things a lot in the apparent stabilization of the video
Always wondered how you film your video clips so this is super interesting! I got an insta360 for my birthday, I've been dying for one for a long time now so looking forward to trying something like this to spice up vids!
Really appreciate how helpful and encouraging you are towards others who want to start RUclips channels. I’ve heard some comments lately from prominent running RUclips channels about others who are starting RUclips channels and kinda belittling these new channels. How do you go about music for your videos? I want to start a channel but I really don’t care about monetizing my videos so I’m wondering how people use remixes and stuff like that in videos
It’s a grey area. Clearly copyright violation. But is anyone going to bother to stop you if you aren’t monetized and are only pulling in a small number of views? A while ago, I subscribed to a music service, and I consider it the best $15 per month that my channel spends.
Perfect timing. Just got my Hero 8 last week and have been experimenting. This was perfect, watched it twice :) I think your camera work is some of the best on RUclips. I use mine on trail runs and have a bunch of wasted footage so far :( This tips will be very useful. I was always sceptical on how much it would weigh but I hardly notice it. It would be great to see a video of your editing workflow. What are your camera settings? Auto or do you adjust max ISO and shutter speed etc. I have been on 4K at 24fps...I thought the highest quality was what would be best. My main purpose is to get lots of the scenic views included. Do you use Hypersmooth?
As a dad I am aware you either have a kids bday or had one yesterday lol paw patrol paw patrol be there on the double 🤣🥲 I was specifically looking for YOUR content not you but the content very specifically and found it very helpful haha
Hi coach... I would like to know you thoughts about using gimbal for running videos? I just bought Zhiyun Smooth Q4 in amazon, a very compact and handy mobile gimbal based on reviews. Thank you.
At the 9:52 mark, you are wearing a yellow hood in what looks like very cold conditions. Do you recall the name/manufacturer of that hood? (I’m in Canada where winter runs can get brisk.)
Thanks for a great video and an insight in your filming process. Just one master question: how do you manage to control all the stuff going on, besides filming and handling with the stick and a gopro also keeping the pace and checking the route/tempo on the watch and paying attention to the cars, other pedestrians, traffic lights and the traffic whatsoever, especially in these days of running in the city streets and urban areas? I assume in the early morning times of your runs the traffic is not that kind of issue, but still... it's a lot to process to give a great running performance and to take a good shots. Any insights on this matter? Thanks!
Looking for the cheapest piece of kit to try this out and improve my stride. Any advice? Looks like it's important to find a cam with image stabilization.
Thanks so much for the tips. Just did the last two Londons and wish i watched this first but happy to have recorded them. Here is a qn, some videos you seem to blank out the stick or is that just the angle the camera is at that hides the stick. Bless nate
Great video, I have been searching high and low for a video like this. One quick question though, when you flip the camera for your shoe footage does the go pro automatically rotate this footage or do you need to do that yourself in post? Hope that makes sense 😂
Thank you for the tips! You're so transparent and helpful to other RUclipsrs... Very refreshing! I've used many of these same shots on my running videos as well... appreciate you sharing!
Great tips! You’re the master of GoPro running footage!
That’s for this video! Looks like you’re in Chicago. I am as well! I recognized the Stans Donuts as I live by there! 😊
I lived there at the time I filmed this
You're awesome, Michael. I just started long distance running and I love the way you're able to run at a very good pace and still record yourself. I hope I would be able to do that some day. Thank you for showing us that it can be done and being an inspiration!

Best GoPro run and film tutorial on RUclips!
Nice mini master class! Great video and Just the encouragement needed to give this a shot myself! Thank you.
Please make a video about how you edit. Lots of times i have clips on my phone, but I just dont know how to put it together
I use Final Cut Pro. But any decent non-linear editor would be enough for what I make. Although iOS apps have been very cumbersome and iMovie is a bit limiting
I second this idea.
This was the only video I was looking for. All the information I needed and convinced me to buy an action cam...thanks!
That was what i looked for. Thank you so much for explaining how to use it.
I really just want to make skate or ski videos
@@kofuzi hahahaha! Would love to see one of those on this video sometime!
Thanks for the filming while running advice! ❤
Awesome advice!!! Thank you so much, invaluable information for new running youtube vloggers. Learning on the go!
Michael, you inspired me to make a second channel dedicated to running. Thanks man, your videos over the years have really helped me!
Yes! I will start copying these techniques for my running journey happening over on my channel now.
have fun!
Awesome, I've been contemplating for quite some time filming my trail runs but had zero clue how to not film a complete dumpster fire. Appreciate this one!
Great tips! I can't wait to try some of these techniques on my next run 😊
Literally got a action cam yesterday and selfie stick and you have been a GREAT example of what I've been hoping to do with it. Thanks
i love this i was thinking of using my old hero 5 , to at least document my progress and i can't wait to use this to document where my runnig is and where it gets to
Thanks for sharing those tips, Kofuzi. I´ll try to make some videos inspired by your well done job.
Yes, you are the one who inspired me to make videos of my runs. I use the DJI Osmo Action.
Thank you for sharing this! Great tips. 🙂I'll be trying this on today's run.
Have fun!
I plan to get a GoPro as well and start filming my runs especially marathon. Thanks for the tips!
Have fun filming!
First! U just taught all the other running youtubers how to film great!!
yo!
8:30 I need to remember to try this on a race. I think it might be fun to see myself looking at something on the race then pan the camera to what I'm looking at.
I'm still looking at your channel but seems like a gimbal isn't needed.
Thanks sir Kofuzi. This video really helps me to start my filming journey. Love from India
Have fun!
I own a GoPro 3 Plus White, I have used the head shot angle and chest mounted shots just to get different clips to my video. With that said you inspired me to do what I'm trying to do. My first GoPro was a refurbished GoPro hero 3+. I think it was about two generations old at the time
Thanks mate! Lots of great tips for my next trail run!
Have fun!
Thank you Kofuzi, you handle it effortlessly, your videos are of very good quality.
Thanks soo much for this video!! Great info to get those awesome shots like you!! Now I just need to get a GoPro! 😋😂
Same!
great advice! still useful in 2022
Thanks! Doing this for fun, and to keep myself interested, so really appreciate the tips.
The “Knight Rider” pan move
I was just watching one of your other videos and though: how does he does this magic? And then I found this video! Crazy that you did this! Thanks a lot!
hope it's helpful!
I just order a GoPro 9 and this tutorial is really helpful. Thank you :)

Repetition is the best way to ensure you get the shot.
Awesome video! You knew I'd love this one! 🏃 🎥
Thank you so much for this video, it is really helpful for me🥰
Thanks for your videos. Very informative.
I learned a lot of skills from you ,Thank you !!
thanks for the tips. Will use some of them
Wicked tutorial. Thank you. I’ve taken copious amounts of notes! I’m really interested to try some shots with the stick extended vs shortened. Thanks again for sharing.
I appreciate the tips. I'm really hoping to add more interesting shots to my videos and this is definitely going to help.
thanks for watching!
proof that editing is key! I struggle so much getting started with iMovie :( I end up using the gopro App from my phone each and every time

Can you link that video where he answers questions about how he carries his stuff while running please?
Super handy hints!
Thank you for share that tips with us!
it's my pleasure. i hope it helps!

I probably shoot shoes a bit too much
Thanks for this. You are in the non-non-elite of the running footage folks now.
This is great, I’ve always wondered how you do such cool videos and are the best tips I’ve seen, thank you!
I’m glad you enjoy!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your tips.
Nice one!👌very informative. Thanks 🙏
This was so helpful!! Thank you!
I really want to do what you do, just to have visual content for me to look back on when I want to feel my runs visually. But I’m so focused I can’t do what you do. With your explanation, there’s a lot of thought process you put in to share the final product with your audience.
Take it one step at a time. You don’t have to do everything on every single run. Start with what’s manageable. Go from there
kofuzi that was my long way of saying, after seeing your video, I really appreciate the amount of thought you put into making the content for us.
I watch a lot of runners but your camera angles is key differentiation.
I’ll take your advice and start what’s manageable for me!
You can do it. Take 3 minutes of video for a 60 minute run. That will be plenty to create a sweet b-roll sequence.
That was really good, some great ideas to try out. Thanks
I hope it’s helpful!
I don't know how I missed this video, maybe I just wasn't paying attention then. THANK YOU!
A few questions...
I’m wanting to start my own RUclips channel for running, you’ve inspired me.
What gear would you say is essential? Right now I’m thinking a GoPro (or alternative), selfie stick, and a ring light. I’m good on the editing side.
Do you have any suggestions?
@kofuzi is your video so smooth primarily because of your ability to keep the camera stable or because of the cameras stabilization features?
oh ! thank you Ko ! i really appriciate this video !
I’m glad you appreciate it!
KITT 2000 would be honored for the shout out.
Nice ideas - and tips.... I'm still trying to find a hand held charger with a gyroscope to self level and movement (my friend had one for his Hero7) but can't remember where it came from

very exciting!
and happy birthday!
Excellent tips fellow Chicagoan!
Thanks for the video! Super insightful. Curious if you ever turn your horizon lock on, or if you find the stabilization with GoPro is enough.
horizon lock and stabilization are two different things, but I never turn horizon lock on
Really appreciate how helpful and encouraging you are towards others who want to start RUclips channels. Maybe I could do it speed art style
Go 1080p at 120 fps. It will allow for the smooth as butter slow-mo!
Thanks Man..great tips 👏👏
Excellent video!!! Thank you !!!
As a dad I am aware you either have a kids bday or had one yesterday lol paw patrol paw patrol be there on the double 🤣🥲 I was specifically looking for YOUR content not you but the content very specifically and found it very helpful haha

Very useful tips! I need to invest more time in this side of things
Thanks for this, really interesting and useful.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice and simple ideas!
Great information, thanks!
Hi coach... I would like to know you thoughts about using gimbal for running videos? I just bought Zhiyun Smooth Q4 in amazon, a very compact and handy mobile gimbal based on reviews. Thank you.
I don’t run with a gimbal. I’m considering it for some projects filming professional athletes, but for myself, I don’t use a gimbal
Really helpful. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing bud!
Thank you for this video! How do you record high speed stuff (intervals/tempo, etc.)? Would be tough to focus, wouldn't it?
