    i can play the rhythm perfectly with muted strings. I can play each chord perfectly without the rhythm. No matter how much i try to pair them i can’t. This is so frustrating

    • @RennyJackson
      @RennyJackson  Год назад +7

      Hey GB 211! This is a tricky and common problem. One tip I give my students is to focus your down strums on the 5th and 4th strings, to get a 'ping' and strong sense of the chord. The up strums should be softer and only connect with the 1st to 3rd strings. This adds a lot more flavour to the chord. And last but not least, SLOW IT DOWN!! Hope that helps :)

      Hello from Valencia 🇪🇸 When i got spanish guitar first weeks i get scared to flick the strings, because you must use powerful flick/ hit and it sounds SO VERY loud and unmusical, horrible noise, worse than cats on heat and banging metal,rubbish bin lid.
      I spent months learning to strum softly, i hate produce noise sound, i like nuance, texture, so i learn slowly to gauge the strength of my hits so now I can hit as hard as I want and it sounds good. Months. Still cant play bulerias because im just learning the compas first. My advice: play strumming like dylan, neil young, taylor swift, they all, have same easy strumming technique, up, down, up down, like campfire songs. Just strum one up, one down, slowly, focus on nice clean sound, go faster and faster slowly, no hurry.
      Soon you can make the strokes dampened, shorter, more percussive. Use two chords to practice clean changes.
      Then try rumba, easier compàs than buleria.
      Most difficult obstacle for me was overcoming fear of making horrible noise. I get embarrassed.If you can shut yourself away in soundproofed room or where nobody hear you then its better because you can make noise from hell and focus exclusively on timing.

    "Is this for professionals? I'm having a really hard time keeping up because it's shown so fast. Do I hear another "golpe" after the rasgueado on the 11? The 10 is with the ring finger, then "and" with the middle finger, and 11 with the index finger. Then the frequency on the 11 ends. Do you do another "golpe" before starting again on the 12?"

    • @RennyJackson
      @RennyJackson  Год назад +1

      Hey FlaWimmi! Thanks for your comment. You can have many variations in this rhythm, all of which can depend on the exact speed and context you're playing. For slower bulerías I often to a lighter hit on beat 11, but not always. If it becomes to mechanical you lose the flow!!!! But yes, there is definitely a small golpe that appears on beat 11 in many of these compases. Hope that helps!

    Please explain why start on beat 12? If that's essential, why not call beat 12, "1", if that's the starting stroke?

    • @RennyJackson
      @RennyJackson  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! It's to understand the link to other flamenco pieces that use the same 'compás' or 12 beat rhythmic cycle but with different tempos, accents and harmonisation. To get the flamenco groove you need to internalise the rhythmic cycles so try starting on beat 12!

    • @aldeveron9498
      @aldeveron9498 6 месяцев назад

      @@RennyJackson Thanks for the reply, Renny. That explains it. Thank you. I'll take your advice and will try starting on 12. However, since I'm only interested in Bulerías Compás, I'm tempted to just note it down from 1 to 11 (calling 12 "1"). To me, it seems less confusing that way. Liked and subscribed!

    "In your video description, it says "golpe" on the 10, but in the video itself, you don't play any golpe on the 10. Instead, your rasgueado stops on the 10, and then suddenly you emphasize the 11 where you were previously emphasizing the "and". I don't understand what's going on here.

    • @RennyJackson
      @RennyJackson  Год назад +1

      You're correct! I'll check the description but at the start I had a little 'pick-up' hit on beat 11 where I woud normally say "and" but it's definitely beat 11.
