I have been a divorcee for 23 years and raised two sons and one daughter. I purchased my house 11 years ago, on my own, and what a wonderful sense of accomplishment that was especially when told I would never amount to anything in life. Long story, but just know we as women and mothers will stop at nothing to provide and fulfill the needs for our children. I will add you to my daily prayers. It looks like most of it is cosmetic in cleanup. You’re lucky to have your original kitchen and also the original bathrooms. I hope your plumbing is working well. If it was me I would take all that screening off of that front porch. There’s nothing like a front porch in the summertime. I’m not too sure where you’re from but may being from the south the porch is an extension of our living. I do mine up like I would do the inside of the house. Right now it looks like your major issue is just to have the place scraped and painted. Get your friends together and have a painting party. It’s amazing what some people will do for pizza and beer. It looks like you’ve got enough space for all your things plus you have a garage for your storage. I know you’ve talked a lot about going to sell the items that you buy. I hope all this works out for you . You seem to have a level head about you. You’re getting it together on your own. I’m in the same position that you are right now. I own my own home I am a historical preservation list. I lost my husband a few years back and I Feel good I do not need to replace him and I seem to be doing it OK on my own. A good scrub and declutter would make it good!!! If they are leaving all that stuff have a big yard sale and get some of your money back. The house looks like it has good bones and plenty of room!!!!
The porch should slant forward a bit. That’s for rain runoff. That’s a good thing. When I put mine on that’s what I did. Look at the porch roof. It’s nice and straight. Get the bathroom done and the kitchen functional. Soap, water and paint are cheap and will work wonders. Get a dumpster or make a giant bonfire with the junk in the house you won’t be keeping. Aren’t you a bit curious to see what’s in that trunk in garage? Great chair up there as well. Those boys of yours can help you unload it. I’d rent a giant dumpsters for a week. That kitchen floor will be great with red accents in your kitchen. One step at a time. Congratulations Tammy. My house is 100 years old, built in 1921.
Tammy, I LOVE THIS HOUSE..... old houses have so much character. That front screened porch Is adorable, wish list item for sure!!!! That 3.2 acres is a TOTAL score!!!! I would take one of those bedrooms off the kitchen and make it a dining room. This house reminds me so much of the first house I bought. Mine only had 1 bedroom (I had to make a closed in front porch a 2nd bedroom) I had to do a lot of work on it and I did it happily, know why.... because it was mine.... MINE!!!!!! Buying this house is an amazing adventure for sure. Doing the work on it will be a total labor of love that will bring you more pride and joy than you can imagine. Since that 1st house I had I have married and live in a bigger house. To be honest with you..... I miss that old house and the pride I had in all the work I did to make it what it was. Tammy I don’t think I live to far from you if you need any help working on that house shoot me a message, (if not I totally understand) I just remember that excited feeling of working on your dream house & I’m not afraid of work either. The setting feels really peaceful, good. Expensive room like bathroom is in good shape. Lots of treasures lying around. Elbow grease is going to make a lot of difference. What's the rush, as long as it's water tight for you. It's pretty with lousy makeup. Exciting.

I did that mine was built in 1942 I had a lot of work done. I went broke so I sold it after I married a man that had a 10 yr. Old house. I do miss my old house tho.

Tammy, I bought an old house at 52....I've been working it ever since ....it truly becomes yours. Congratulations again. My house was built in 1947 it is now 73 years old
I did that mine was built in 1942 I had a lot of work done. I went broke so I sold it after I married a man that had a 10 yr. Old house. I do miss my old house tho.
