thats an old fox body mustang trick from way back in the day, i used to run a Rawlings football in my right rear spring to limit body roll when launching the car at the drag strip. that was the early 90's👍 good stuff Doug!
I'm here from another video, the guy said his lasted over 2 years and probably could have kept going. I'm going to throw some in the rear springs of my car to test it.
They last through the winter of daily driving and plowing. I lost on a day after shooting this video. It burst. I replaced it and the replacement lasted until I removed them. They would have kept going. Placement is key to longevity I think.
Good shoutout to VGG. Derek is a rather funny feller, you guys are both right up in the legendary statuses of of the youtubers! Thanks for all the good content! Been strugglin as of late gettin my ol snapper i524 snaarblaar to not be so cold blooded. Put a chinese fuel-makeithapp'ner (adjustable at least)on it last year and that definitely wasnt the solution.
Definitely doing this into my 03 and 04 overland, your videos are awesome, saved me a lot of money in the past and very useful info that I still use till today. Greetings from San Diego California
No kidding! Small world. I would definitely recommend this method. It got me the clearance I needed and so far they lasted all storm. I probably have 100 miles on them and they arent easy miles
Hey Doug, great idea with the footballs, but if you would like to add even more load carrying capacity You could also add some air shocks to the front of your jeep . If you are not really sure what air shocks that would fit it in the front Because no one really lists air shocks for the front of a jeep. Try some rear air shocks from a. 2000: Buick LeSabre . Maybe you could even possibly find a good used pair from a salvage yard. Otherwise I believe that they sell for around $75 a pair new and usually come with the air line kit included. And often come with a life time warranty. About forty psi in some air shocks would easily hold up a plow. Tim from Wisconsin.
It is so frustrating when you are busy at work and have to put off watching a video like this until much later at night. Am I the only one who feels this way?
We used do this when a spring or shock collapse. or to help towing a trailer be cheap way tow air shock helper so stiffen rear end and not drop back end the vechile under load. The balls would last year maybe 1 yr or more. But if you filled the ball with high quality tire air sealant it would last probably indefinitely.
What a KRAZY, UNREAL GENIUS IDEA, LMAO ALSO. One suggestion though, ADD SOME OF THAT SLIME INSIDE OF THAT GENIUS LIFT FOOTBALL IDEA. Don't know if that Football will just EXPLODE OR LEAK OUT OF THE VALVE STEM ?
Damn I wish this video was published Friday when I had the front end of my silver chariot disassembled! Guess I know what else I doing besides sway bar bushings and shocks this weekend 😉
Yes. It would be a cheap air tow helper spring. We used to use a football in tow vehicle if was dropping too much from A trailer load. Or if the shock strut or coil sping was bad droping the car down . A football is cheap, where A air helper spring kit costs about $150. But do fill the football with high quality tire air sealant to stop leaks from forming
Love it!!! I would like to see how it worked when you hook up the plow to see how it helped with the sag Andy H. PS: I Still have those wheels you want That I spoke to Erick about Dan and I haven’t had a chance to get there
My mom would've called it triflin'. But for some reason I fuckin love it! Lol. I think its just the creativity of it, but it's basically the same as those load leveling kits they sell for the rears of truck's/suv's that tow... right?
I'm in San Diego. Sunny and 75 degrees and I'm just not feeling like wrenching on my jeep. Just too much effort. This guy is dragging a trolley jack through snow while making a video!
I dont have a problem with them. I now have them on both of my WJs actually as I am a fan of wide tires, but stock wheels. The key is to not go too wide and try to get hub-centric
I blew out on of my first driveway, but I put another one in and it - along with the other original one - are still there. I pump them up every few days. As this is NOT a daily driver and just a plow/tow rig that is a decent enough solution for me for now
I do not know yet. I honestly was sure if they would burst immediately, but they lasted through the storm while I plowed and are still holding pressure. If I did it again (now that I know it works) I might spring for mid-range footballs instead of bargain barrel ones
What size tire do you have on there? . . . edit: Nevermind, just saw your video from four days ago that addresses my question. ruclips.net/video/So2HcdNQwqw/видео.html . . . good stuff, just what I needed to know. Cheers from Alaska.
I need more friends like this guy in my life.

Lov it, no spring compressor needed. You have got to tell us how long the footballs last. Curious minds want to know
I will definitely be reporting back on the longevity of this
Came for the update.

I need some extended bump stops for my Chevy Tracker but don't want to disassemble the front end. This might work for me.

I think Derek would totally approve!
Cheapest good cheapest very good nothing wrong with doing things on an extreme budget
Thanks. Great info. How has it held up?
Seems better quality than those Airlift bags they sell for hundreds.
LOL always respect those who think out of the box, as long as it's safe.
Derek might be lifting a jeep with some footballs today, it’s right In his wheelhouse for doing repairs on a budget 🔧 👍
Might just help my wj get through the foot of snow I’m getting tomorrow lol
WOOF!.. good luck!
Me, reading the title of this video:
'How to lift a Jeep'
Me: "You have my curiosity."
'With Walmart footballs'
Me: "Now, you have my attention."
I know, it seems like clickbait, but it worked! I plowed all storm and never had an issue!
If my WJ wasn't a daily driver, I'd definitely give this a go. I love hacky stuff like this.
Can you use the footballs on the rear coils too? I’m asking because I pull a trailer occasionally
Yes for sure. would probably work better back there as there is less travel in the rear

Good one, Doug! Good enough for government work indeed! 😂
Freaking AWESOME!!! No need to spend the cash on the airide bags for WJS

My first jeep is a gladiator but wouldn’t mind an XJ to wheel with.
A little "beater" xj is a FUN thing to have around
Why did u get a gladiator if your not going to wheel it?
Doug what do you think about wheel spacers and what are you running?
I dont have a problem with them. I now have them on both of my WJs actually as I am a fan of wide tires, but stock wheels. The key is to not go too wide and try to get hub-centric
@@DEInTheGarage what spacers do you recommend?

Upgraded the impact gun i see
That is a great idea!!! I knew you had hillbilly in you hoss
Oh yea bud.. there is some hick in there!
dude i can tell you watched a ton of red green growing up! lol
Did it make it so you can steer with out trimming the bumper ?
How much time you get on them. 1 night of plowing?

Wait the wjs not the d.d. any more?
It shares DD duties with the Subaru until these gas prices come down some.
Bro you need to torture test this

Sketchy? Tom Brady style deflate the football? Lol!
subbed.
You really gotta have some balls to do something like that...
Whats your estimated life span on the football life? And I'm being serious. Jeep on
