Alicent went from a woman who would do anything to protect her children to a traitor who is perfectly fine with all of them dying. And it’s not just Aegon who she sentenced either. She also sent Aemond and Daeron(the only other nice child who was having a peaceful life in Oldtown)to their graves as well and may as well have sold off Helaena and Jaehaera into team blacks’ hands as hostages. There is no way her daughter can leave now because most people will see her as an usurper’s wife and as a figurehead for the greens. Aegon is a horrible person, but in the end, he truly got screwed by his own family, particularly his mother. First she deprived him of any love, only saying that Rhaenyra will kill him and his family once she comes into power, then she forces him to take a throne he did not want from the start even after he tried to run away, later berates him for being a bad king when it’s mostly her and Otto’s own fault for failing to guide him how to rule properly since the beginning(and also during a time where he had just lost his son to something his brother did),gets burned and crippled in battle since Alicent told him he’s a loser to his face, feeling like he needed to fight, and now his own mother offers up his head on a platter for something she forced him to do. And out of all of her children, it’s Aegon who’s always loved and trusted her the most, craving for her love and affection. And the way Alicent just sells him out is just sickening to me.

Alicent has always treated Aegon poorly. Both her and Otto. It's so sad that they forced him into this position with the full intention of controlling him. To me, Alicent never loved Aegon. Aegon was a duty and nothing more. That she would offer up the child she didn't love for execution is beliveable to me. She would never offer Haelena up.

Have you ever seen The Haunting of Hill House? It is technically horror but it is so different and refreshing and to me it's far more about a family drama than it is about jump scares or stuff like that. Truly a beautiful show. I think you would like it! (Ps: im a coward and hate horror stuff so me saying it's different and good means something! trust me!!)

I agree with you, it was a fantastic episode but not a good finale. I expected wayyy more in terms of the characters and their development especially Daemon.
I understand his visions and why he was at Harrenhall but damn did it have to last a whole season?!😭

The season was done and written to beautifully but I was expecting ATLEAST a battle of her taking kings landing at the end or atleast a moment like the final shot of episode 7 but overall. Really great season!!

@@wwhn The season had 'all the pieces' - great acting, good overall story, character motivations, but there were issues like some stretched out storylines, one or two clunky scenes, characters travelling unexplainably between places which are all markers of problems in the writers' room.
I 'choose' to like this season, though, and I wouldn't complain at all IF we would get a new season in a year.

I love Rhaena, but I loathe what they're doing with her and the dragon she's with (Sheepstealer). The show has not only written out the ONLY person of color from the books by doing this, but they've gotten rid of such an awesome character too, just to make this enormous change in Rhaena's story. I fucking hate it

Please react to Normal People. The chemistry is undeniable and it’s only 1 season with 10 episodes.
Derry Girls and/or Pen15 for comedy series. They’re short seasons/ episodes.

as a GoT/HotD fan I can say that although it doesn’t have to always be the battle on rooks rest level of action or even the battle of the bastards…I do think that coming off of season 1s finale and second to last episode having big events it is only assumed that it would be the same for this season. ESPECIALLY with that amazing last shot of season 2 episode 7. Overall I think this season was brilliant with amazing acting, writing and shooting but I, alongside many hardcore fans, felt alittle underwhelmed. But again, great season lol

This narrative that’s been spun regarding the writers strike having an impact is a falsehood. Filming wrapped before the strike. GRRM shared it on his actual blog.
This season was ill paced and off in its storytelling simply because of the writers pushing their own agendas and straying from the books.
Character motivations were off, some scenes were out of place, and changing of the lore will have a ripple effect on the trajectory of the story. These comments are for the season as a whole(even part of last season)
THIS episode was especially off. The Tyland scenes should have been saved for next season. That would have given more room for more depth with Rhaenyra with Corlys and Aemond by himself leading up to his attack - or right after - or even Rhaena WITH the dragon.
That vision sequence was cheesy and not part of the books.
The Criston Cole scene with Gawain was odd.
The only scene that felt satisfying was the scene between Corlys and Allan. That made sense - didn’t come out of nowhere because it was built up to through an entire season and the actual dialogue was good. The moment itself felt organic in how it unfolded (unlike the confrontation in the Cole Gawain scene)
But okay folks - keep reducing criticism of the season and this episode to “fake fans” who wanted action. My comments aren’t coming from that perspective at all. I am a person who fell in love with this world due to season 1 of GOT when it actually was airing on HBO. To this day it remains my favorite season of both these shows and it certainly wasn’t all action.

it's not the best finale, but this episode and s2 has laid the groundwork for the rest of the series, which it's been confirmed there will be 4 seasons total. s3 will open with full on battle, including setting up for 1 of the most infamous battles in this war, which i'm glad they didn't resort to rushing into it just b/c this is a finale. it needs a proper setup. the battle at rook's rest was small in comparison. plus, i'm not in a rush to lose more people and dragons. it still hurts seeing rhaenys and meleys gone.
helaena has visions. she's pretty much seen everything, past, present and future. she knows how they're all going to end, which is why when she speaks, it carries a lot of weight. also, we did see her dragon, dreamfyre, briefly in s1. it was when young aemond was trying to claim a dragon of his own when he went down into the dragon pit and saw the dragon spewing fire at him and he ran away. that was dreamfyre.
daemon's journey at harrenhal was more about his character development as he needed to understand what that crown/thrown meant. he needed to look beyond his own self interests and him getting that vision of the past/present/future to understand that there's a bigger story out there than just taking king's landing.
rhaenyra and alicent's discussion was interesting. the thing about having to kill aegon makes sense. when otto planned to usurp the throne w/aegon back in s1:ep 9, otto wanted to force rhaenyra and her family to bend the knee or die. there was no middle road. they said that having a living challenger against aegon would lead to battle and bloodshed, which is where we are now. you can't claim the throne when a threat can still happen, you have to put an end to it, and the only way to make that happen is for the opposition to die. alicent giving her blessing to have aegon killed is a big decision for her.
it will be a min before we get s3, but time moves so fast, it'll be here before we know it.

The writer’s strike affected the show a bit, along with budget cuts due to the Warner Bros merger of HBO Max with Discovery+. So we were cheated out of the full 10 episodes this season, dangit! 🤬❤
