  • A simple activity for children based on the story of Ruth from the Bible.
Suggested age 3+ but easily adaptable for younger or older children.
    You will need:
-Paper (I used green, white, and yellow)
-Scissors (please ask an adult for help if you need it)
    -Coloured pens/pencils/crayons
    -Glue or tape.
    -Optional, dried pasta shapes
Step 1. Fold your white paper in half and draw 4 flowers, making sure that your drawing goes all the way to the fold. Cut them out but don't cut the fold - we want them to open and close to reveal a message!
Step 2. Cut some long, thin, strips of yellow paper (or white, and colour it in). You could make some pointy on the ends and fold it over at the top to look like grass. Arrange them on your background paper and glue when you're happy.
Step 3. Cut some shorter, thicker, strips of yellow paper. You'll probably need around 20. Roll them and glue or tape them into a cylinder shape.
Step 4. Glue your paper rings onto the thin strips to look like sheaves of wheat.
*suggested adaptation for younger children - use dried pasta instead of paper rings. macaroni, rigatoni, or even pasta shells (conchiglie) would work well.*
**suggested adaptation for older children or adults - use long and very thin strips of paper rolled around and around (paper quilling)**
Step 5. Arrange your flowers around the wheat and glue them down, making sure that they are still able to open.
Step 6. Write inside each flower:
1 - "Where you go, I will go,"
2 - "Where you stay, I will stay,"
3 - "Your people will be my people,"
4 - "Your God will be my God".
*suggested adaptation for younger or non-writing children - write these out on strips of paper beforehand and have the child glue them to the inside of the flowers*
**suggested adaptation for older children or adults - draw pictures of Ruth, Naomi, Boaz, inside 3 of the flowers and write their favourite verse in the 4th flower**
