It's a real challenge. German is a much easier option if it's your second language. Plus it's a good basis for swedish, danish, Norwegian etc. French is... Very unphonetic. Took me four years to get as far as I got in two years of German.

I'm listening to this as someone who doesn't speak French properly. And there are tiny, little things I am finding with this song that I think only a non-speaker would. The way most pronunciations of the alphabet come through the nose. R's peculiar pronunciation. The softness of the lyrics. I think it is very beautiful that our experiences are so different and and special at the same time.

So, I was in the car with a friend just last night, and this came on the speakers (from his wedding playlist, of all things). I thought I recognized it, so after getting home I just looked up 'Champs Elysees song'... turns out this was the song we learned to sing in Year 5 (9-10 years old) on the school trip to Normandy from the UK.
