I have lived in NA and ME countries both - I've always come across people, even white/blacks - and same with Tunisian, Turkish, Algerian and many more ME and Africans - They know Hindi cinema and SRK - while I've hardly (that too because of my respect for Amithabh Bachan) ever come across people who'd know him. In India Amitabh-- Maybe ( his popularity had tanked and almost to nil -if it wasn't for KBC ) but I don't recall his stardom even in his 40's. so maybe the comparison isn't right either way.

If actors monopolize the industry and not let the new talent come up. SSR was squashed down by these hard working actors..if they are so confident about themselves, they would have let Sushant Singh rise.
