I just moved from southern CA (where I lived my whole life 😢) because you can’t get an apartment for less than $2,400, and that’s not even for a nice one. This video was bittersweet because it made me miss being able to see and go to the ocean any time, but at the same time had so many beautiful summer ideas. My last apartment in CA was so janky 😂 that no matter how nicely I decorated it, it just felt like I was putting a band-aid over things in a place that truly needed to be renovated. My new place isn’t perfect but has been much more fun to decorate because the microwave isn’t falling off the wall, etc. 😂 (But I still get so sad sometimes from having to leave my dreams behind and try to dream up new ones now.) Since I live in the South now, I’d love to see like a southern style decor type video. I love your content so much. Every day, I’m checking to see if you’ve posted a new one, and if not, I just rebinge your others! 😂❤
As a Californian, my home definitely embodies the coastal vacation home theme. I personally love the timelessness of organic, relaxed color ways and materials 🙂
Don't forget about the scents! I live on the Southern California coast, and we have lots of Eucalyptus trees, Orange blossoms, Juniper, wild sage, etc. I have a candle from PF Candle Company called the Golden Coast. It captures the smell very well.
I love your exuberance! There is a magical quality to the west coast, and I think the coasts of Washington and Oregon need to be included in style as well as California. Each has its own unique feel. To me, it's all about the light. Whether the west coast, east coast or southern coast, or really any coastal zone on the planet, I think it's that play of light and water that creates the magic. There's clarity and brightness that can only happen where there's a big body of water. I recently relocated to the coast of Northern California from a central-southern California mountain community, which also had great clarity in the light, and yet it's different here. Maybe it's that indescribable quality that keeps us trying to capture a little of it for ourselves, in our homes. I so appreciate your spirit.
I've been working on Modern Coastal which is another name for the Pacific Coastal style - and you and I both have a lot of black in our homes so I've been adding pops of navy, cream and metallics in addition to wood and rattan here and there. It seems to be working.
I've found myself leaning toward this style lately without know what it's called. Thanks for this video! Now I know where I can go to get more info and decor! Crate & Barrel here I come ❤
This reminds me of Bolia that we have in Norway and The Nederlands. I love their use of natural elements and their woodcraft is so elevated (can I say that? Sorry for my english
I’m born, raised and still live in California and love it here. The reason why storage is so important is because here in Cali we surf, water and snow ski, boating, swim, hike and go to the desert, sometime in one day believe it or not. So storing our ski’s, surf boards, boats, dune buggies, Bikes, etc is so important. But you’re correct, just about everyone has large glass doors to bring g the outside in and to be able to enjoy the outdoor trees, flowers from inside by just looking g out… it’s awesome!!!
Being a native Michigander my whole life and now retired in Southern California, we brought all our furniture and accessories with us! I am slowly trying to incorporate that coastal style but it is a challenge on a senior budget! I will definitely be doing some thrifting and of course including the many Amazon items you suggest each week. Thank you for your continued inspiration Valentina. This video was like it was meant for me.
Coastal style is peaceful, relaxing, organic, carefree, and comfortable. Who does not want that in their home? I have always been drawn to it for that reason. Now, I don't want beach house decor, but elements that bring me peace and relaxation, I am all about.
Your Fireplace Styling today is especially lovely! Moving North from California, Pacific Coastal style may have additional variations, including hints of Forest, Fog, even Rainy Days... all with their own appeal!
I live in a major city in Europe and my flat is pretty much coastal with global travel photos- a wonderful retreat from the grey, hustle and bustle. I grew up by the sea and it’s an essential happiness element. Dont think you need to live by the sea to have a design as such 😉❣️
Born and raised in the bayarea region of California, but still livevin the PNW. I would say this is totally my style. I love the colors found in the pacific ocean which are reflected in my art throughout my home.
I totally agree with you about the “feel” of California. I felt it the first time I went there as a teen. I’ve visited several times and I love the place.
Yes 🙌 this is the style I love and I am trying to incorporate it into my home although I live on the east coast 😂 12miles from the Atlantic. My father was from CA and I visited many times and yes as soon as I would step out I felt something especially near HWY 1
What a wonderful video. You rocked this one with your explanations and amazing pictures. Thank you SO much. You have been my inspiration for so many things! I was born and raised in Stockholm so your style speaks to me in volume!
Happy Mother’s Day! I loved the picture of you and your Godmother! ❤ I love the Coastal look and are just shopping for new furniture in our new build! Headed into Crate & Barrel right now! Perfect timing! I love adding some blues! ❤ Thank you for all of your advice!
Pacific coastal is similar to New England coastal except less traditional. Great styles, so airy & my favorite since I grew up steps from the Atlantic.
Loved this! 🌸Happy Mother’s Day to you! This is funny bc I am just now switching my home decide and colors to this trend and I had no idea it was a trend! I printed pic of my last beach trip into 16x20 and putting in my black frames I currently have on the wall. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks a lot for this beautiful inspiration. This style can certainly be implemented even quite far from the ocean. However, I cannot quite "see" it in my 500sqft urban flat (you would call it studio apartement, but in France this is a medium sized flat ;-). You just need some space (as you indirectly mentioned) to feel the generous vibe, even if scaling down might be technically possible. In too small a space it might just come around as "poor" instead of "relaxed" (and no more spare storage to be found). Budget could also be a limiting factor: if you skimp on natural materials, it will just look ... well "skimpy". Finally, it's an all Californian story: rich but relaxed.
I live in Pebble Beach CA and my home is just as you described. Clean lines, mid century modern, a lot of wood ( white oak and walnut particularly)pieces and white canvas fabric furniture. Those highway 1 landscape pics with Bixby bridge pics right feel home. Definitely many homes here utilize indoor outdoor living to take advantage of that view.
Good point Valentina about it being a little cliché when they say decorate like the colors around you, but I do see some truth in that let me give you an example. People from Seattle tend dress kind of like the Dreary colors and environment. A lot of grays and Browns same with San Francisco. My hometown people really style their homes , interiors , clothing etc. based on the cloudy, overcast and natural colors outside like the rocks, the sand, the great ocean, the gray skies with hints of neutral grayish blue's. My friends from the Caribbean and Central America...Their houses have a lot of the vibrant colors like the colors of the bright ocean the tropical fruits growing on the trees, the parrots the bright blue skies they even paint tbeir homes in those bright colors as well ! I kid you not . so I do think people tend to be drawn towards the colors in their surroundings, which can trickle down to their interiors, as well as their paint colors and choices.
California is a VERY big place. It has coastal, mountains, gorgeous lakes and desert. One honors the style of each. My Palm Desert condo was designed by a prominent mid century architect. The doors are vibrant. There are pops of color. Coastal is going to have blues, drift wood. The skies are often gray. It’s part of the palette. Sea grass, sand, water. Get a really cute dog to run on the beach. He will convince you that you don’t need a white sofa.
When I lived in the keys there was a house on the beach and the interior was all wood and white canvas furniture and it had a feeling like the more it got used the better it looked. Wood foors worn down by the constant sand on the floor etc.
Washingtonians and Oregonians are like "You know California is not the only state on the coast in the lower 48, right?" We aren't big on gray since it's meant for seasonal depression and big cities. NE Coastal is navy, bright white, red, gold, PNW Coastal is lt. blue, cream, green, pewter.
My favorite styles are your style (black & white, modern, sophysticated) and Pacific coastal/Mediterranean/Rustic luxury (warm colors, relaxed, and sophisticated). I would love to see a video in which you can combine these styles (mainly, white and black with warm colors, and sophistication with a relaxing tone).
Happy mother's day to a joyous warm loving wife and mother, Valentina. I've lived in Florida and California now for 51 years. I've enjoyed alternating between my two spaces and locations. Especially grateful to escape Florida's brutal summers for San Francisco's cool foggy summers. The landscapes in California are breathtaking and I swore I would never give up my California home. Sadly I am leaving California and moving to my Florida home permanently. Current conditions in both San Francisco and Los Angeles are definitely not filled with hope and optimism. Love this style and your presentation of it. ❤
Can you please comment on how you keep your couch so nice? Like vacuum or cleaning, etc. With all of that coffee drinking there is no way you couldn't have dropped just a teeny tiny bit on it. I have the same couch and I have had it less time. I would like to get it cleaned.
Please add it into your space and show us how it’s done. I’m a Cali beach native and moved to north county NY recently. Love it here by the river but I love Cali style. A beach cruiser should be parked outside the home ❤
California and the PNW have completely different climates, different natural light, and different color palettes. I live in the Puget Sound region. Desaturated, moody, misty colors work well here, as a complement to our subdued winter light and lingering summer sunsets.
What a lovely way not to say gloomy, dark, drizzly days in Puget Sound, by calling it , “Subdued Winter Light.”🤣 After living near Seattle most of my life, I enjoy living in Arizona so much more. Sunshine warms my soul!
I live on the pacific (northwest) coast (in Canada) at the beach and do have this similar colour palette except some deep greens mixed in as well. I do of course have my own personal twist on it and wasn't even aware this was a style.
Your Aunts home sounds like it may have been an Eichler? I was blessed to have lived in California from 1983-2006, and fell in love with nature and the Eichler homes that were designed to let you bring nature into your living space.
Born, raised & still living in SoCal but I have more of an east coast NE style lol. I grew up around a lot of coastal interiors so this feels too on the nose for me 😅
I am a Cali girl but live in Texas now. California coastal is in my blood. You can take the girl out of California but you can’t take the California out of the girl. It’s a state of being that can be used anywhere
We use "coastal" interior design styles in other parts of the world, especially if we live on the coast .... but we don't call them "coastal Florida, coastal California or coastal Pacific" style!.. its JUST coastal/beach style.
MCM coastal is what I grew up in 3:14 socali... Have lived both coasts, deserts, now gulf....I still stay med/tuscan,sw... Destin area is full of gulf coastal...not me😂 Happy Mothers Day 🌴🩴👣🌺🌻
Pacific Coastal is *not* Cali style, even though California is on the West Coast. When I think Cali, I think of a coastal, beachy style that encompasses more boho than mid-century. Pacific Coastal is all about the PNW (Pacific North West). Think Seattle and the Oregon Coast, old growth forests, mountain backdrop *and* the water, very laid back, environmentally conscious, beachy, casual, plenty of rain (but not humid like Atlanta), beautiful flowers, mid-century modern, Starbucks, and so on. I'm here in the north end of it, in Vancouver Canada, only 3 hours drive from Seattle. The magnolias and cherry blossoms are just finishing and the lilacs are out. It's time to pull out the fans and to think about whether this is the year to get AC. Also, I *love* C&B!
There was a lot of discussion around California. California coastal and pacific coastal are very different. I live in seattle, I have a view of the water, I’ve lived here my entire life. The color palette is neutral, muted, and darker. Black, cream, muted greens blues and berry tones. The sky blue color you see in California coastal styles is so far from pacific coastal. To those living here the Pacific Northwest it doesn’t really include California at all it’s Washington Idaho and Oregon (Vancouver BC if you must). I don’t think including California as the vision here is the right direction for pacific coastal. We use to live in Hermosa Beach, Ca then retired 4 years ago in the desert. My desert house is full of beach photography which I’m loving it .

I live in coastal Virginia and was definitely inspired by Pacific Coast Style when I was sourcing my materials 2yrs ago.
Happy Mother’s Day V to you, your Mom and sister. Lovely vlog! ❤
I'm loving the Coastal Bali style.
Pacific coastal is my style! I’m from California but live in Arizona now and have this style in my home ❤ Having a beach house someday is the dream!

Thank you!
I finally have the terminology to describe my Northern Pacific Alaska modern organic style….well, that’s a mouthful.

One of my favorite styles. The book, Pacific Natural at Home is a nice book for this style!
Our house growing up in the Pacific Palisades, exactly as described. I enjoyed this segment...
Painted my brick fireplace charcoal slate and it looks gorg! Thanks for the inspiration ❤❤❤

Thanks Nina. These furniture are great. I’d love to see you do a video on outdoor patio design/styling for the summer.
Happy Mother’s Day Valentina 💐. Great video the furniture reminds me of Room & Board$

Beautiful style. Thank you for sharing! I will definitely pick up some items!!
I prefer a conducive ‘flow’ of exterior to interior. This style needs surrounding architecture to be fabulous.
You need to come visit us in Monterey county. I can see you and Jack walking in Carmel, you would fit right in!

‘Pacific Natural At Home’ by Jenni Kayne shows many homes with this style of decor and it is a gorgeous book to sit with for an afternoon.

Yes it always nods to the location but coastal is always airy and relaxed no matter where
Couldn’t agree more 😊
What you felt is the lack of humidity in the air.
Love it!! Do you have a style for the Arizona desert?
Is Pacific Coastal how they were already decorating and it is spreading to us, or is this style originating in the retail stores?
Love❤ love dear
where is the vase from that is on your coffee table?

Beautiful images but I don’t see it as “relaxed”, how does all that white seating stand up to kids, grandkids, popsicles, and pets?

Lisa Holt just said the new trend is organic modern. My head is spinning.
The beach here is rocky and rugged. The ocean and sound are rich tones. This use of travertine, stone, wood and raw cedar is important. To those living here the Pacific Northwest it doesn’t really include California at all it’s Washington Idaho and Oregon (Vancouver BC if you must). I don’t think including California as the vision here is the right direction for pacific coastal. Here the color palette is important, as subtle as it some one may want it, the tones need to be right. Raindance from Benjamin Moore is a great example of a “gray” according to them with green undertones.
California Coast style and Pacific Northwest Coast style have similarities, but aren’t always the same.
Boho mixed with farmhouse mixed with costal thats mine
Ironically I'm switching away from this style... but still need a change!!
16:15. Could you speak to decorating a tiny house. Talking 400 sq. feet. We're building a cabin in Northern Georgia.
California use to beautiful…sadly it has changed a lot. 😢
It's all the Japanese influences, it's the same color palatte, with the blacks earth tones, stone linens, cotton, silk - blended with Mid Mod... a lot like Janandi - but with American Mid-Mod lines to the furniture
There are some nice pieces but the overall look is basic.
Way to much color vibe in CB kitch...use spices, not eat off them
This was just a 10 minute ad for crate and barrel nothing revolutionary here sorry I love you but….
California is not for me. Prefer our coast better. S.C.
The aesthetic is generally the same on Long Island, New York. So calming and serene.
