People were starving, freezing to death. Looking at the streets of America today reminds me of those suffering times in China 🇨🇳. Much respect to the long suffering Chinese people.9

Even then, those images were intentionally selective to paint the US as the great benefactor who "opened" communist China to the West. While Nixon was simultaneously criticized and lauded by the American capitalist class, it wouldn't do to show China in any sort of a good light other than one ripe for the picking.

@richardwong2950. That is known as the Thucydides Trap. It was identified in Ancient Greece. We are seeing the US starting to be in the throes of it now - behaving irrationally in a (vain) attempt to quash its perceived rival China from taking over its hegemony. History tells us the outcome is inevitable, although the struggle will be fierce and many lives will be lost in a desperate attempt to shore up a dying hegemon.
The stakes today are higher than the battle between Sparta and Athens and their respective allies in the nearly 30-year long Peloponessian War. Today the threat of nuclear disaster hovers over the conflict.

just back from Quanzhou last week after the canton fair which is the world's biggest fair. walking the street where lots of people is buy stuff like there is no tomorrow. where is the depression or housing slump, the housing price is only 10% less. disappointing, if only it is a lot less so that we as foreigners can made a killing by buying them up. visited a few innovation parks, the government official was so welcoming and are so willing to fund anyone from anywhere in the world who want to do hi-tech R&D and manufacturing. within a 50km radius, there are already three such large innovation park, each park has R&D lab, a few close universities to support the research and manpower needs, hostel to house all the employees and furnished offices managed by the government. the scary part is that anyone from around the world can apply to such lab and the government will fund and help them to setup everything, this is only one province in China, the same is being done to all over China. I dare say that due to the sheer scale, all the latest techs will come from China with Chinese standards, hi-tech but low cost, those who are not in China to tap this will become like the US.

Professor Wolf - I had the pleasure of taking a class of yours when you were teaching at UMass Boston. At the time, I could not comprehend the teachings you were offering because it starkly contrasted the teachings of many of the classes I was taking. But in recent years I have been listening to your lectures and talks. It has opened my eyes to many things, I greatly appreciate these insights. Normally, your talks are quick witted, sound and balanced. But I like to bring to your attention, in this talk( I am totally going by intuition and I apologize if I am coming off as offensive, intrusive, rude or jumping the "gun" here ), it appears you were under influence. I hope you don't take it the wrong way, I am just concerned for your state of health as you have contributed a lot for the people. And many look towards you for guidance and to learn from. Please take care of your self.
