Jesus fucking christ. Its impossible to keep yours eyes on a kid 100%. Maybe he was just playing behind the table, and they thought it would be safe to do so. It only takes his curiosity to stick his hands in the gap once, to get sucked in. Show some fucking empathy and respect. We were all stupid kids once.
I would agree with you and in terms of your sentiment, yeah, it's the parents fault but as a parent I tell you, kids move in a blink of an eye and often into a dangerous position without any logical warning so unless your going to literally chain then and lock them to your leg it's impossible to avoid all dangerous situations. I guess we can just call it Darwinism?
Family said there was no protections preventing children from getting trapped...yes there was...it's called parents. That restaurant was a staple of Atlanta.
A Change I live in Atlanta and that restaurant has been downtown for many many years and nothing like this has ever happened. The restaurant was not negligent it was the parents who were negligent and not watching their child. Yes it is a sad sad tragedy that that little boy had to die but at the end of the day it was the parents fault because they weren't watching him
i blame the parents for not teaching the child to stay by them and reinforce that often. I dont care what people think of me in public, as long as the kids are safe.
"There were no protections preventing children from getting trapped" YOU ARE THE PROTECTION !!!!!!!! Parents always trying to deflect blame for their horrible parenting...rip kid ...wow
They are all eating at the same fucking table what do u mean?? If you cant watch your kid when he's sitting 2 feet in front of you, you are a shitty parent. End of story
Your kid can die ANYWHERE! It's the responsibility of the parents to prevent that from happening. Anyone who thinks otherwise shouldn't have kids. Ever..
OK fine. Since you admit kids can be stupid the parents should not sue the restaurant because they go there knowing exactly what that restaurant was. We are talking about stupid parents too.
Irresponsible parents leaving their kids to go wherever they want and not constantly watching over them. Don’t blame anyone else if you can’t control your child from going anywhere they want especially in public areas. The parents should at least be charged as well. In this accident, It was not easy for the kid to have accidentally killed himself unless he purposely tried really hard to wedge himself in. In my perspective parents who let their children run around in public areas should always be considered unexperienced, irresponsible parents. Unlike the boy, I was never curious to peer my body into tight spaces nor was I allowed to wander anywhere away from my parents so I’m not a hypocrite if you say so. Who’s to blame first is the parent, then it’s the restaurant second. One should always first consider if they are the cause to a problem instead of blaming others. It doesn’t matter who’s right or wrong anymore because the kid is dead and suing the restaurant will only make the parents seem like they were not “wrong”, but it’s not going to help get rid their sadness they will have for the rest of their lives. In the public, every time I see couples leaving their toddlers alone or behind them out of their sight, I feel bad for the child who’s not being guided.Even with the internet when I read these news stories I’d feel angry at the parents. If I’m going to have kids one day, I will remember what my parents used to always scold me and I’ll do the same to my offsprings.
It’s not called family issues. It’s called living life cautiously. What can you expect from an ordinary restaurant with rotating tables. It’s not a rotating door that’s meant for people to go through. This is reality and how life works. Disagreeing with me, just means that you are acknowledging to be an irresponsible parent. What’s wrong with being responsible I made my point clear. You can enjoy a life that’s risky and happy but then die young because of accidents. I hope your child if you have one faces an accident because you would allow them to do anything they want.
Are you aware of how many children have been harmed or killed in this restaurant? If it is a death trap, it isn't very efficient. Are you aware of how many revolving restaurants there are in the world? How many people in the world have been harmed by a revolving restaurant?
::facepalm:: So, Sympa, what you are asking is why should someone be held accountable for creating an environment that injures and kills people. Are you truly that stupid?
What on earth is wrong with the disgusting people commenting on this post? What a terrible, horrific accident! I ca;t even begin to imagine the absolute nightmare of watching something like this occur to your child. They have my deepest and heartfelt sympathy as I'm sure this horror will stay with them for life. For those ignorant commentators - what goes around, comes around! Just pray your child doesn't suffer horrible accident one day.
Properly adjusted PIR (passive infrared) occupancy sensors with the appropriate set of relays could probably have prevented this tragedy. Any controls engineer could specify this. The sensors would open the circuit to the motor drive in the event that any large object entered the sensors' coverage zone. The PIR sensors could be adjusted for sensitivity and coverage radius.
M1K3, No, this is standard industrial control hardware. I am not sure why you are a smart ass---when a child has been crushed to death. You obviously have no electrical background. Get lost.
How eFing STUPID the restaurant owners did not see a potential hazard there. A simple elevator door-type sensor is all that would've been needed or at least warn people about their wandering tots. The owners should go to the edge of the roof and jump.
CIndy Weire. IF the restaurant is sued, the restaurant will win. At worst, the restaurant was carless and as already determined by James Comey, is not guilty (unless there are two standards of law that is).
if people cant look after their kids properly then they should not have them ! its not the world responsibility to look after your sprogs for you .would you allow your child to run around unattended ANYWHERE ?
The parents should of known the dangers and they shouldn’t of even let the child go there or keep watch, it’s like letting a 3 year old play with magnets, you need to keep watch and make sure the child doesn’t do something wrong
I wonder if there were warning signs like the ones for amusement park rides, power tools, McDonald's coffee cups, etc. According to the news, the attorney also states the place was "recommended as a fun place for family with kids"; the booth also blocked the kid's view of the oncoming death trap; and the restaurant had no auto-stop mechanism. Lots of blame to spread around.
For everyone that is saying the family is at fault, here is the word for word testimony: "The family was leaving the restaurant together after paying their bill,” he told The AJC. “They were walking to the exit, following the same path that the hostess used to walk them to their table and that they used to walk to and from the restroom earlier. Charlie was only a few steps ahead,” The family was not at fault, the fucking death trap of a restaurant was.
The problem is the freaking rotating restaurant. People love blaming the parents, it's as if none of these freaks ever grew up in a real family. PARENTS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO CONTROL THEIR CHILDREN, they are supposed to GUIDE them. Why the hell does it need to be rotating? A child climbing over the back of the seat to follow his parents could easily have gotten stuck. Don't go to rotating restaurants is the moral here.
Rip to the kid. However, it is restaurant especially this type of fancy restaurant. You don't let your kid run around. Heck, not even at place like McDonald's. They have designated kid area. Even then, a kid could fall off a slide and break their neck. Unfortunate event but not restaurant fault. This is on the parents
There wasn't even so much as a warning. You should've have to be worried about unmarked would-be OSHA violations just crushing your child to death when you're in a fucking restaurant. Just a little sensibility, please!
I think Americans have been heavily-irradiated in the last couple of years or something. There's an abundance of idiots here saying that every wrong that befalls a child is the parents' fault, even one as imperceptible as a fucking restaurant killing someone. I wonder what they'll think when the amoral, indifferent masses turn away from them when they need help the most.
Why can't the parents keep their eyes on a kid that is literally right in front of them, sitting in a booth? The kid literally climbed behind the booth and got stuck. What if he wandered off and got kidnapped? Like if my kid just decided to wander if in a restaurant I would IMMEDIATELY grab him and bring him back to the table. I think the parents are just as at fault as the restaurant. Idiot parents+poor restaurant design.
I have heard that this case recently settled. I read the "Joint Statement." I also believe I know a little about that so-called "confidential settlement." The parents got next to nothing, reflecting they were clearly at fault.
Egh, it is very sad. Don’t sue, sueing is not the answer. It makes everyone more mad. It was all a mistake, a very bad one for sure. The restaurant didn’t know a kid would get stuck behind a table and against the wall. They will for sure fix it. They are very sad. This is already bad enough for both sides. The parents and the restaurant have already suffered greatly. We do not need to destroy anything else further.
It only takes a split second for something to happen. The parents aren't psychic or perfact! So to say, Come on parents watch your kids better, it's ridiculous! I challenge, to who ever has kids, and can say, "I've never in my kids intire life let them get hurt is a liar"! To the parents of this child, I am very sorry for your loss!
Very sorry about your child’s death, but you gotta blame yourself. Your the parent, watch your kids make sure they ain’t falling into shit they have no business being in.
Everyone acting like it's bad parenting or some dumb ass kid. Well this time it was, but that pinch point was severe enough that even an adult who tripped or stumbled in their drunk would have met the same fate. It is a terrible design.
That same restaurant also had cutlery that a child could put too far down in their throat and die or could stick a fork in their eye or choke on some of the food that they didn't chew enough. How dare restaurants have such dangerous things. Any possible bad outcome hast to be remedied with a huge legal lawsuit.
World Peace. Impossible to lose because the jury would find that the restaurant was careless. And per James Comey, no one can be charged with any crime by being careless.
insight001 probably meant child died an absolutely avoidable death too soon. If he did not mean that then we just saw a psycho who needs to seek help ASAP.
Stop Attractive Nuisance, Encourage Good Parenting. I always wonder why you take the family picture where the kid is pausing after making the Photographer's life hell instead of the footage where he is running around and being a brat
With a revolving restaurant, it's a given that there ought to be enough space between the walls and the furniture. R.I.P. little guy....
Lol the parents fault -- I keep better watch on my dog & would never even bring him to a place like this. This seems like an adult place where you must know when to be still. Is there a video of the kid ?
You believe a video from CNN? Don't you know that the restaurant was CARELESS!!!! James Comey already said that if anyone is CARELESS, then they are not guilty. Don't be so stupid!

It’s sad that the restaurant should have had measures to stop this but I want to know where the parents were
It's super sad seeing a child lose his or her life but come on the parents be on better watch

I just saw that boy at the stake an shake but he looks Ten years old
there is no way it is not the sA.me boy
dmed whoops fixing that

Family said there was no protections preventing children from getting trapped...yes there was...it's called parents. That restaurant was a staple of Atlanta.
So you mean to tell me that the restaurant is responsible for the parents not watching their child?
anttslaugher. At most the restaurant was CARELESS. And CARELESSNESS is not a crime per the FBI.
A Change I live in Atlanta and that restaurant has been downtown for many many years and nothing like this has ever happened. i blame the parents for not teaching the child to stay by them and reinforce that often. I dont care what people think of me in public, as long as the kids are safe.
Should health and safety surveyed this place? A grown man could accidentally trap his leg in there and be crippled for life.
i dont think they have Health & Safety in the USA .
Americans let restaurants kill their children, and then blame the parents for assuming that they were eating in a safe establishment.
lets ban all kids from adult restaurants . im happy with that . win win for all.
It's not the restaurants fault you should have better retention over your little ones...
Condolences to the family for their tragic loss.
I guess it can never be the parents fault, right? God forbid they take responsibility for not paying close enough attention to their son.
"There were no protections preventing children from getting trapped" YOU ARE THE PROTECTION !!!!!!!! Parents always trying to deflect blame for their horrible parenting...rip kid ...wow

you’re restaraunt should never be able to kill a kid. what the fuck
They are all eating at the same fucking table what do u mean?? If you cant watch your kid when he's sitting 2 feet in front of you, you are a shitty parent. End of story

Man that was a severe pinch point that should have been widened.
Is there anything that people won't sue in America?
All bad outcomes must be blamed on someone else. Sue if they have money, that's the American way, right?
Are you aware of how many children have been harmed or killed in this restaurant? If it is a death trap, it isn't very efficient. Are you aware of how many revolving restaurants there are in the world? How many people in the world have been harmed by a revolving restaurant?

So, Sympa, what you are asking is why should someone be held accountable for creating an environment that injures and kills people.
Are you truly that stupid?
Again, you don't get it. It was a tragedy BUT they American approach to any bad outcome is to blame someone else and then sue they.
Sympa Dm If this doesn't justify a lawsuit then what does?
What on earth is wrong with the disgusting people commenting on this post? What a terrible, horrific accident! That looks like a really bad design mistake, whether or not the parents were attentive.
How about a barrier between the wall and the customers
how about not letting your child run around unattended ?
How about both?
How about you are at a restaurant and everyone should be seated for dinner at all times even at home.
Wtf the parent should be responsible on him not da restaurant end of the story
Properly adjusted PIR (passive infrared) occupancy sensors with the appropriate set of relays could probably have prevented this tragedy. Any controls engineer could specify this. The sensors would open the circuit to the motor drive in the event that any large object entered the sensors' coverage zone. The PIR sensors could be adjusted for sensitivity and coverage radius.
Actually good parents would have control of their kids, or a babysitter.
.....says Data from Star Trek Next Generation
M1K3, No, this is standard industrial control hardware. I am not sure why you are a smart ass---when a child has been crushed to death. You obviously have no electrical background. Get lost.
Greed made safety the least priority. I am sure lot of the crew that built it goes hmmmm I wonder who is going to get stuck in there.
How did he get crushed? Serious question... based on the photo it looks like that part is not rotating.
He got trapped between the stationary wall and the moving booth.
In my humble opinion, the parents are completely responsible for this sad death.
Wtf, He got stuck and then he DIED?!
How eFing STUPID the restaurant owners did not see a potential hazard there. A simple elevator door-type sensor is all that would've been needed or at least warn people about their wandering tots. The owners should go to the edge of the roof and jump.
Little kids are adventurous, especially boys. That wall so close to the table with a gap between, very hazardous for little kids. They should be sued.
Tragic!! But...how did he get back there?
The parents should of known the dangers and they shouldn’t of even let the child go there or keep watch, it’s like letting a 3 year old play with magnets, you need to keep watch and make sure the child doesn’t do something wrong
How did he even get there

Im sorry for this
So there was no backup plan or a fail safe for these industrial grinder tech used in public space
For everyone that is saying the family is at fault, here is the word for word testimony: "The family was leaving the restaurant together after paying their bill,” he told The AJC. “They were walking to the exit, following the same path that the hostess used to walk them to their table and that they used to walk to and from the restroom earlier. The family was not at fault, the fucking death trap of a restaurant was.
Poor design flaw engineering is liable 100%
HEARTBREAKING, THESE POOR PARENTS!
R.I.P.
Rest in peace precious baby boy
dude, this is sad

probably already addressed, but, where were the parents? people often let their kids run around loose, see it everyday. very sad about the child.
Why were the parents not supervising the kid? He had to have drifted off to get caught in such a spot. The resultant is not at fault the parents are.
I heard he didn't clean his room and told his mom no
Why can't the parents keep their eyes on a kid that is literally right in front of them, sitting in a booth? The kid literally climbed behind the booth and got stuck. LOL
you seem like the kid that would have stuck a fork in an outlet from.your damaged brain functions.
Where were his parents; googling on their cellphone, checking stock ticker, stupid facebook? PARENTS HURT THIS CHILD!!!
These restaurants are for adults 1st of all. 2 why are the parents not watching their child? It's not Chuck E. Cheese.
It only takes a split second for something to happen. The parents aren't psychic or perfact! So to say, Come on parents watch your kids better, it's ridiculous!
Absolutely disgusting. How could restaurant not have protection for kids getting over dangerous places. I hope they lose big.
That same restaurant also had cutlery that a child could put too far down in their throat and die or could stick a fork in their eye or choke on some of the food that they didn't chew enough. How dare restaurants have such dangerous things. Any possible bad outcome hast to be remedied with a huge legal lawsuit.
love the sarcasm
How can parents be neglectful??
Control your kids!
how could a parent let their offspring die so needlessly ?
World Peace. Impossible to lose because the jury would find that the restaurant was careless. And per James Comey, no one can be charged with any crime by being careless.
Omg. Omg. Omg. As a mom of two little boys. Omg.
He died too easily
Special Ed what does that mean
insight001 probably meant child died an absolutely avoidable death too soon. If he did not mean that then we just saw a psycho who needs to seek help ASAP.
Fat fuck.

Ppl are stupid
With a revolving restaurant, it's a given that there ought to be enough space between the walls and the furniture. You can blame the parents all you want, but all it takes sometimes, is a few seconds of being distracted, and things will happen, but in this case, had the restaurant been more intelligently designed and structured, this tragedy wouldn't(have happened).

Lol the parents fault -- I keep better watch on my dog & would never even bring him to a place like this. This seems like an adult place where you must know when to be still. Is there a video of the kid ?
stake and shake
From the video it is clear that this was a bad design on the restaurant's part. Poor kid. He was adorable.
You believe a video from CNN? Don't you know that the restaurant was CARELESS!!!! James Comey already said that if anyone is CARELESS, then they are not guilty. Don't be so stupid!

What the fook?

How come I can’t find any articles on this tragedy? This better not be FAKE!

What a shame that, in this day and age, you openly admit to being too stupid to know how to operate a simple search engine.
Jonny Colt they literally have a cop in the video talking about what happened
FAKE!!!!!!!
How could this terrible tragedy be made 😢

I’m surprised CNN hasn’t blamed the Russians or President Trump for his death
When tragedies like this happen, it always makes me question if there is an anthropomorphic, conscious God. If there is one, he or she has reminded us a million times (by default) that we are NOT protected from the most horrible pain and helpless terror, like this young boy endured. To have your body slowly crushed like that (via a large electric motor) would equal the worst tortures of the Middle Ages. This would be much worse than a plane crash or falling off a 30-story building, due to the massive, slow, excruciating trauma.
No. There is no god, there is no satan. It's just you, me, and the rest of us on this planet. Please respond if you want to discuss.
Randy, Thanks for your response. I have to work tonight, but I have one point: My heart loves Jesus, but my practical, logical side agrees with you.
