Nice video. Here's a summary: - 4 components - listen with intensity - empathize - accept the message - take responsibility for completeness - ask questions to understand, not to lead - ask them to repeat themselves - listen for feelings - tips - eye contact - non-verbal behavior: body language, posture, nodding head - avoid distracting actions - paraphrase - don't interrupt or talk too much - smooth transitions
thank you sir and your team, i have understand that i have active listening problem and i am aware of my problems and thanks again to give out a solution for that . please keep it up bcause of your such a wonderful help many people out there will be benefit .
I'm guessing offering empathy may be up a notch from listening as it is an understanding of what someone may be experiencing. Anytime we can listen or offer empathy and be present with another is a gift.
Most people can hear, but the focus is to understand the message. Meaning requires you to feel the emotion that is being communicated by the other person. 'Putting yourself in their shoes.
You know you're a bad active listener when you find yourself thinking of a rebutal before the video has ended. Also, IMO, a video targeted at people who have trouble listening probably shouldn't be 17min long. I learned a lot anyway, thanks!
That was really cool. Thanks for posting up this video. I learned something about better listening skills, which seems to be very clearly represented in this video. I really like how you mention empathy. Here's something I'm curious about: When I'm trying to figure out how someone feels about a subject, I tend to focus on their personality and love language. Does this mean that I'm not listening to the actual words? Or am I simply overthinking the conversation?
Can anyone explain to k-12 schools to teach communication skills including listening. They teach language and focus on speaking, reading & writing. This is communication "AT" not "WITH" each other. Communication means a message received and understood!! It means we must ensure that what we hear is what is intended. VERIFY THAT BY ASKING "IS THIS WHAT YOU MEANT?" I have had too many people argue about what I meant. Do they know more about my opinion than I? Explaining a comment does not mean agreeing with it. This attitude makes open minded people, trying to understand an issue, targets of attack by all sides. We could fix CONGRESS dysfunction by fixing people's single sided mindset. Every issue has multiple viewpoints.
I fond that the dialogue between the two individuals was not too complicated and there was too much paraphrasing involved. In other words too little of a debate and too much reiteration instead.
Hearing is the….preception….of the err...voice and other communication that the person is err…zzz….sending to us…...zzzzzz…..Hearing is not the understanding…….err…. of the message…..zzzzZZZZZZzzzzz
No, the first problem of listening in interpersonal relationships is that men need to learn to NOT listen to women. Women have two minds, the mouth-mind and the action-mind. Show me a woman who talks about piety and 'god', finding a "nice guy", or someone who treats them well, and I'll show you a woman with two kids and two missing baby daddies. A woman will tell a nice guy that she can't find a nice guy, & that works until the next jerk comes along who "needs fixing", & she's off to the races.
Giving someone a 17 minute long video of a monotone old guy (no offense) teaching you how to "actively listen" is about as effective as underwater BB stacking. If they added fireworks and strippers to keep my attention I might be more inclined to watch past the fire 4 minutes.

An active listening course should be mandatory for all managers.

This guy has the weirdest speech pattern. It was so hard for me to concentrate. I better work on my listening.
