I am a huge fan of Bart Ehrman- truly one of the most honest, if not THE honest of all scholars of New Testament, Life of Jesus and Early Christianity.
He has his opinions but they never interfere with his scholarship. He is a MUST for the best source for the NT through literary criticism and history vs only a theological perspective.

You assuming someone would want to die in order to fake a resurrection. That's ridiculous.
Did Jesus have a brother? The answer's yes. It says so in the Word of God. According to Protestant theology, He had at least one bother, after He [Jesus] had been born.
Jesus was the only Son of God, who was born by the Power of God, and not by the seed of man.
Jesus was Mary's first born. The angel pronounced she had become with child by the power of God. Jesus had to come into the world as a man. He had to be born of a woman. That's the reason He was born through Mary.
      Word → Mary → Jesus → Ministry → Death → Resurrection → Ascension → Coming Again → 1000 year reign → eternity

I find this stuff fascinating. Coincidentally, I'm in the middle of reading Tim Freke's book, "The Jesus Mysteries" (highly recommend) and I just reached the chapter where this topic comes up. His take seems to be that it's Psychological all the way down.
In the book of Thomas, Jesus said to Thomas,
"Now, since it has been said that you are my twin and true companion, examine yourself, and learn who you are, in what way you exist, and how you will come to be."
The book of Thomas is credited to Didymos Judas Thomas - as mentioned in your video, Didymos derives from the word "twin" as does Thomas; the twin Judas. Thomas is also referred to as "doubting Thomas" because he refused to believe without direct experience in the resurrection.
If thought of in terms of the lower and higher self, the finite and infinite, the Eidolon and Daemon etc the twin (dualistic existence) could represent the lower self, Judas, who betrays the higher self, Jesus. Maybe the resurrection represents a psychological death and rebirth. Doubting Thomas aka the lower twin self is yet to experience the "kingdom of god within" through being initiated into the inner mysteries.

Look closely at Galatians 4:4b "God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,"
Paul's audience would know that Jesus was born as a Jew, but what if it's a mystical and revelatory micro creedal statement? Paul has so much in lacking in biographical details for Jesus especially when making theological points (using OT scripture when he does).
"In Galatians 4:4, Paul says that God "sent forth his Son, come from a woman, come under the law " (yevoue vov ek yuvaikos, yevoue vov vtto vo uov). The verse was used by the orthodox to oppose the Gnostic claim that Christ came through Mary "as water through a pipe," taking nothing of its conduit into itself; for here the apostle states that Christ was "made from a woman" (so Irenaeus, Adv. Haer. Ill, 22, 1 , and Tertullian, de carne Christi, 20). Irenaeus also uses the text against docetists to show that Christ was actually a man, in that he came from a woman (Adv. Haer. V , 21, 1). It should strike us as odd that Tertullian never quotes the verse against Marcion, despite his lengthy demonstration that Christ was actually "born.". This can scarcely be attributed to oversight, and so is more likely due to the circumstance that the generally received Latin text of the verse does not speak of Christ's birth per se, but of his "having been made" (factum ex muliere)."
Bart Ehrman, The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture, pp. 239
For a celestial/mystical Jesus revealed through OT scripture this woman is Divine Wisdom (Greek Sophia personified feminine wisdom see Prov. 3:13-20, 8:1-36), and Jesus is the Divine Law (Adam had to be taught, but God made his firstborn son, and chief archangel all knowing/imitating the Father).
      Baruch 3:37, 4:1
"37 Afterward she appeared on earth and lived with humankind."
"1 She is the book of the commandments of God, the law that endures forever. All who hold her fast will live, and those who forsake her will die."
      Proverbs 3:18a
"18a She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;"
Philo of Alexandria (a contemporary of Paul) would not he see his anointed Divine Word/Logos of God fitting closely with Gal. 4:4b? In that he is empowered with both Wisdom, and God's Law.
      Philo: ON FLIGHT AND FINDING
"XX ...For we say that the high priest (Jos. 20:1-6) is not a man, but is the Word of God, who has not only no participation in intentional errors, but none even in those which are involuntary. For Moses says that he cannot be defiled neither in respect of his father, that is, the mind, nor his mother, that is, the external sense; "He shall not go where there is a dead body; he shall not defile himself even for his father or mother." (Lev. 21:11) because, I imagine, he has received imperishable and wholly pure parents, God being his father, who is also the father of all things, and Wisdom being his mother, by means of whom the universe arrived at creation (Prov. 3:19-20, 8:22-31); and also because he is anointed with oil, by which I mean that the principal part of him is illuminated with a light like the beams of the sun, so as to be thought worthy to be clothed with garments. And the most ancient Word of the living God is clothed with the word as with a garment, for it has put on earth, and water, and air, and fire, and the things which proceed from those elements. ...Nor will he “rend his clothes;” (Lev. 21:10) for the Word of the living God being the bond of every thing, as has been said before, holds all things together, and binds all the parts, and prevents them from being loosened or separated."
1 Cor. 1:24b "Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."
So Galatians 4:4b could alternately mean "made of Divine Wisdom, made of God's Law". This in a purely mystical context once one removes the lens of the Gospels as traces of history and sees the influence of Philo's Hellenistic philosophy on Christian origins (which has much evidence when Philo's Divine Word is compared to Paul's Christ Jesus).
Image of God (2 Cor. 4:4, Phili. 2:6), Agent of creation (Rom. 11:36, 1 Cor. 8:6)
      THE SPECIAL LAWS, I
"XVI ...Now the image of God is the Word, by which all the world was made..."
Celestial high priest (Heb. 2:17, 4:14), God's Word (Heb. 1:3, 11:3), Firstborn son (Rom. 8:29)
ON DREAMS, THAT THEY ARE GOD-SENT
"XXXVII ...For there are, as it seems, two temples belonging to God; one being this world, in which the high priest is the Divine Word, his own firstborn son."
Spiritual kinship & an angel of God (Gal. 4:5-7, :14, Heb. 1:4)
      ON THE CONFUSION OF TONGUES
"XI ...In reference to which I admire those who say, “We are all one man’s sons, we are men of Peace,” (Gen. 42:11) because of their well-adapted agreement; since how, I should say, could you, O excellent men, avoid being grieved at war, and delighted in peace, being the sons of one and the same father, and he not mortal but immortal, the man of God, who being the reason of the everlasting God, is of necessity himself also immortal?"
"XXVIII ...And even if there be not as yet any one who is worthy to be called a son of God, nevertheless let him labour earnestly to be adorned according to his first-born word, the eldest of his angels, as the great archangel of many names; for he is called, the authority, and the name of God, and the Word, and man according to God’s image, and he who sees Israel. For which reason I was induced a little while ago to praise the principles of those who said, “We are all one man’s Sons.” (Gen. 42:11) For even if we are not yet suitable to be called the sons of God, still we may deserve to be called the children of his eternal image, of his most sacred word; for the image of God is his most ancient word...."
Note: "but I did not see any other apostle except James the LORD's brother." (Gal. 1:19) This could be a cultic title (like Peter/Cephas which means "Rock" could have been) rather than being a biological relation? Paul constantly refers to those "in Christ" as brothers/sisters in a spiritual family. To Philo we may become children to the "Image of God" (God's firstborn).
      Good shepherd (Heb. 13:20)
      ON THE CHANGE OF NAMES
"XIX ...for they have abandoned all connections with pride, and having connected themselves with lawful persuasion, choosing to become a portion of the sacred flock, of which the divine word is the leader, as his name shows, for it signifies the pastoral care of God."
"XX But while he is taking care of his own flock, all kinds of good things are given all at once to those of the sheep who are obedient, and who do not resist his will; and in the Psalms we find a song in these words, “The Lord is my shepherd, therefore shall I lack Nothing;” (psa. 23:1) therefore the mind which has had the royal shepherd, the divine word, for its instructor,..."
      Purification, forgiveness of sins & glorification (1 Cor. 6:11, 2 Cor. 3:18, 4:6)
ON THE LIFE OF MOSES, II
"XXVI Such then are the figurative meanings which he desires to indicate by the sacred vestments of the high priest;... ...namely the logeum, being also an emblem of that reason which holds together and regulates the universe. For it was indispensable that the man who was consecrated to the Father of the world, should have as a paraclete, his son, the being most perfect in all virtue, to procure forgiveness of sins, and a supply of unlimited blessings;..."
ON DREAMS, THAT THEY ARE GOD-SENT Book I
"XXXIX ...For when the sacred word has purified us with the sprinklings prepared beforehand for purification, and when it has adorned us with the select reasonings of true philosophy, and, having led us to that man who has stood the test, has made us genuine, and conspicuous, and shining,..."
Note: Is Philo saying (“that man who has stood the test”) that the Divine Word was tested (Heb. 2:18)? If so it obviously passed the test.
      Sits beside God (Heb. 8:1)
      ABOUT NOT MOVING LANDMARKS
"XXXVIII... I say, should such men triumph in and insult the misfortunes of others, having no respect for justice, the ruler (Note: justice/ruler) of human life, who sits by the side of the great Ruler of the universe, who surveys all things with sleepless and most piercing eyes, and sees what is in recesses as clearly as if it was in the pure sunlight?"
      The Word is a covenant (1 Cor. 11:25, 2 Cor. 3:4-6)
ON DREAMS, THAT THEY ARE GOD-SENT Book II
"XXXIII ...God, says that he is about to erect firmly his covenant full of grace (and that means his law and his word) in the soul of the just man as on a solid foundation, which shall be an image in the likeness of God, when he says to Noah, “I will establish my covenant with Thee.” (Gen. 9:11) And besides this, he also indicates two other things, one that justice is in no respect different from the covenant of God (Note: justice/covenant), the other that other beings bestow gifts which are different from the persons who receive them;... XXXVI Since then all steadiness, and stability, and the abiding for ever in the same place unchangeably and immovably, is first of all seen in the living God, and next in the word of the living God, which he has called his covenant;..."
The Word's sacrificial blood (Heb. 12:24)
WHO IS THE HEIR OF DIVINE THINGS
"XXXVIII ...Now, the craters of the sense of seeing are the eyes, those of hearing are the ears, those of smelling are the nostrils, and so on with the appropriate receptacles for each of the senses. On these craters the sacred word pours a portion of blood, thinking it right that the irrational part of us should become endowed with soul and vitality, and should in some manner become rational; following the guidance of admonition, and purifying itself from the deceitful alluring powers of the objects of the outward sense which aim to overcome it."

      Here's how Jesus became "God"...
John 1:1 says; "In the beginning was the Word (of God), and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
The Word of God is Jesus after the fashion of Moses at Exodus 4:16 and 7:1. Jesus is God's prophet, the one sent by God to speak for God, God's Word.
Psalm 82 says God CALLED the divine judges (angels) "gods" and commanded them to judge justly, but they were wicked. But the one just god, God CALLS "God", telling him he will inherit the Earth.
Jesus referenced this Psalm 82 at John 10:29-36 when he's accused of claiming to be God, to which Jesus replies; "if God called them 'gods', to whom the Word of God came, the scripture cannot be ignored, "I said I am God's son"!
Jesus clears this all up at John 17:1-3 when he explains that his Father is the ONLY TRUE GOD, while he is simply the one whom God sent to speak for Him, God's Word.
The apostle Paul further explains at 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 when he says there are many gods and many lords, both in heaven and in Earth, but, for Christians, there is but one God, the Father. So, Jesus is a god but, not THE God. Only the Father is THE God.

@@ezkl9424 Verses held up as undeniable evidences for an historical Jesus have plausible alternative explanations. The verse Gal. 4:4b "God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law," looks to have Jesus born of a woman, and is Jewish. But what Paul could mean is that "woman/law" is Divine Wisdom (Greek Sophia personified feminine wisdom/see Prov. 3:13-20, 8:1-36, Baruch 3:37, 4:1) in that Jesus was made all knowing unlike Adam. The verse Gal. 1:19 "but I did not see any other apostle except James the LORD's brother." is seen as a slam dunk for historicity. But Paul's theology is of spiritual kinship (Gal. 4:5-7) and everyone in Christ are brothers/sisters. Paul makes no distinction that this James is blood related to Jesus, and maybe "Lord's brother" is a cultic title? The verse Rom. 1:3b "who was descended from David according to the flesh" (2 Sam. 7:12) is good evidence for historicity. But 2 Sam. 7:12c "who shall come forth from your body," can mean God made a flesh body from David's semen for Jesus (it was a belief that the male seed contained the whole body). This is a convenient way to fulfill messianic prophecy for a celestial event instead of on Earth.

Were taken to the cave and treated with herbal medicine. Came back on day 2, not 3, the Jews don't know how to count days, walked around for a while, and left for India again. It says in the Bible that Jesus will come back from the east, and that he will come back the way he left. And that is absolutely certain,,,,, I think!

Well, this was a real surprise. I've been following Bart Ehrman for years and Jahannah for the past five months. I had no idea that they would hook up. Though short, this was a terrific interview! Hope Jahannah will interview Bart more in the future. There are some people who don't believe Jesus existed, that he's a myth. So it would be interesting to hear Bart talk about this and indicate if there is historical evidence for Jesus and others such as Pontius Pilate, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Herod the Great, Herod Antipas, Caiaphas the high priest, Joseph of Arimathea, etc.

Bart becomes extremely irritated when asked to talk about Jesus mythicism. He refuses to debate one of the best known mythicists, Richard Carrier, because he doesn't like his attitude. He has obviously never read any of the modern mythicists because he never addresses their actual arguments, preferring to argue against strawman arguments that no modern mythicist makes. His position is that the consensus is against mythicism and all academics in the field laugh at it. This of course is just an argument by appeal to authority and it's also an untrue statement. There is a growing list of academics who take the subject seriously. Carrier keeps a list of such academics at his blog.
Bart's main points are: Several ancient historians mention Jesus. Indeed, but they are not contemporaries and they only tell us what Christians at the time believed about Jesus. One of them seemed to think "Chrestus" was instigating riots in Rome in the reign of Nero.
He also believes that a raft of non-existent documents attest to Jesus. Have you heard of the Q document? A consensus of scholars use this hypothetical document to explain why Matthew and Mark have a lot of identical passages. They claim that both authors had use of a document now lost from which they copied these identical passages. There is a sizable minority of scholars who think that Matthew simply copied from Mark. (or the other way around, I can never remember which came first.) Bart also thinks there are a number of other hypothetical documents from which the gospels were copied. I call this the "the Gadarene pigs ate my q document homework" hypothesis.
The strongest evidence comes from the possible existence of James, the brother of Jesus, attested to by Josephus. Paul claims to have met someone in Jerusalem who claimed to be the brother of the Lord. Some people suggest that this James was simply a member of a group of people called "brothers of the Lord" by Paul.

Comment at beginning of video: I've believed for years that Yeshua was a twin. It fits too many things. Yeshua is supposed to parallel the sacrifice for sin, but in the regular ceremony there's another part to that sacrifice where an identical animal is taken into the wilderness. If Yeshua was the sacrifice, it stands to reason that he would have an identical twin who went out into the "wilderness" (the world). Additionally, if Yeshua was such a well know revolutionary, why would Yehudah even need to identify him for the soldiers to arrest him? Because he had an identical twin and they wanted to be sure they arrested the right one! So who was the twin? The scriptures even tell us that. We're straight up told that Tomas was the twin.
I'll post a separate comment after I watch the video to share my thoughts on the points addressed in the video. Curious to see if it covers the same points I have and what else there might be.

@@onejohn2.26 Just because Pagan myths had one twin sired by a god and the other by a man doesn't mean that has to be the case here. I don't think you understand how twins come to be. Identical twins start as one fertilized egg which separates during cell division and becomes two viable embryos. Fraternal twins happen when a woman's ovaries release two eggs simultaneously and both are fertilized so each grows into an embryo. In both cases, both twins are created in a single act of intercourse, so in the real world (as opposed to mythology land), twins will have the same father. Or do you not believe Yahweh to be capable of creating two children within Miryam's womb? Or do you not believe that a single fertilized egg can divide into two children? Or do you not believe in the scripture that explained the sacrificial rite for cleansing sin detailed that a flawless goat be sacrificed upon the altar while an identical got be lead into the wilderness? Or do you not believe that the soldiers sent to detain Yeshua should recognize a man who was allegedly a great instigator of civil unrest? Or do you not believe it was necessary for Yehudah to identify Yeshua for those arresting soldiers? You want to talk about false teachings? Most of what is taught by modern Christianity is complete anathema to what Yeshua himself taught and practiced. So feel free to follow the very false doctrine which you proclaim to be a precursor to the end times if you choose (as most will, because once most people believe they have found the "truth," they close their minds to all other possibilities). Did it never strike you as odd that Christianity is one of the largest religions in the world, yet the Revelation states that the believers will be few in number? The reason for that is because modern Christianity adheres to a version of doctrine that has been warped, filtered, and rewritten many times. I apologize for turning this comment into a sermon (I will soon be starting my own dedicated channel for that), but I do not appreciate being branded a false teacher for trying to open the eyes and the minds of people who have been drawn by the actual false doctrine.

I'd be interested to know what is exactly meant by "twin." Is there anything in the original language that determines that twin is a fraternal relationship (two children of the same mother) or merely twin by comparison. Would confusion of language have taken some to consider Thomas' likeness in appearance (thereby nicknamed didymus) with sharing the same mother. As a Catholic Theologian I have always believed Thomas was called so for his likeness in appearance but in no way did Mary have any other children (as I said, Catholic here). I believe that this explains the critical importance of Thomas' post resurrection encounter with Jesus. They need to be seen, by many witnesses (for standing), to have been in the same room AND the wounds on one and not the other. The demonstration of wounds and the unwounded twin eliminates a potential barrier to belief in the resurrection in the early church. Which is why the words, "Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet believe," are so important! As "Brother" can mean "Cousins" I believe that Thomas was indeed a relative who looked just like Jesus. Great interview!

    • @wolf7el356

The reason why the Catholic church would teach that Yeshua didn't have any siblings is because it would have delineated from their power structure within the early church, because they used their distorted understanding of Jewish history as a means to control the millions of people who converted to this brand new faith. This was Paul's way of detatching Yeshua from his Judaism & attaching him to a Greco-Roman Hellenistic world. Yeshua absolutely 100% had brothers & sisters, his 4 brothers were James, Judas (Yehud) Joseph & Simon. Read the genealogy from the Torah & even in the Book of Mark, his brothers are all mentioned by name. The Jewish Roman historian Josephus wrote extensively about Yeshua's family & primarily James, but it was widely regarded as fact that he had a twin named Judas/Judah or Yehud (in ancient Hebrew) & only until 300 years later at the Nicaea Council did it ever come into question as to whether or not Yeshua had siblings. The only reason why is because the Roman Catholic empire didn't want any descendants of Yeshua's family to have a right to being the head of the church, which would also give them the right to the Roman throne as Emperor. Or in other words, they purposely omitted & taught that he didn't have any brothers & sisters because it would invalidate their power. Yehud (Jude/Judah) was not a cousin, he was an actual twin; the Hebrew word for twin is Theum or pronounced Tho-him with a soft H, the Aramaic word for twin is Tho-mas/Tomas, the Ancient Egyptian word for twin is Tauma, the Ancient Akkadian word for twin is Mashu, which translates into Ta-shu in Sumerian. So what that all means is that the early Middle Eastern languages & cultures all had a specific title for an identical twin & they all essentially had the same phonetic & linguistic translations. The reason he was referred to as Thomas is because he was specifically his Twin & not just a relative who looked like him. John the Baptist (Yohanan or Yahu) was actually Yeshua's cousin through their mothers Mary & Elizabeth, but Yohan is never referred to as Thomas. What that indicates is that Thomas is a distinct title & not a name & not interchangeable with someone who isn't in the immediate family. Thomas specifically means Twin & nothing else.

I don't think I'll place my trust in one scholar, as you appear to be, over near 2000 years of tradition. That is not to be disrespectful, but the implications for every denomination of Christianity would be staggering if that is correct.

Great video/dialog! Although I believe Christianity morphed into a more Roman-like religion as it entered into Europe (out of necessity), it definitely had its roots in the ancient religions - Judaism (Habiru), which partially had its roots in the monotheist Egyptian religion (Akhenaten, Tutmoses, etc.), which partially had its roots in the Babylonian (Code of Hammurabi), and Sumerian religions. Dr. Sigmund Freud did extensive research on this subject and wrote a book on it. It's truly a fascinating subject.

They have published interesting books like The Bible Fraud, The Crucifiction of Truth, The Twin Deception, They Lied to us in Sunday School, The Christ Scandal and many others. Fascinating reading.

Hi Jahannah, fan of your work and was happy to see your shout out by Randall :)
I wanted to suggest that you might find star mythology interesting here. Jesus having a twin, and also Hercules having a twin are both perhaps related to the constellation of Gemini in some of those stories. Mary (a virgin) also aligns as Virgo. You might be surprised to find there are many globe spanning ancient mythologies regarding twins that often share intriguing similarities. Likewise with the virgin mothers.
So little time and so much to research, but I would highly recommend "Hamlet's Mill" by Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend. Also "Star Myths of the World and How to Interpret Them" by David Warner Mathisen. :)

Well... If Jesus had a twin brother, that would perfectly explain why Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus with a kiss in the Garden of Gethsemane. He had to kiss him so that Sanhedrin know which one to arrest. It would be a big problem if they had crucified the wrong man.

My family consist of half Catholic and half Witness but always had a wide range of cultural influences..
I was raised on bible literature but understand a good deal of history and religion aside from christianity.
Jesus and the bible itself, is atleast 3 stories in one. Every verse gives many understandings.
Jesus is a person in the flesh many believed to be Krishna in India, but ultimately predates even india itself.
Jesus the son is formulated around Zeus the sun. The sacrifices made in fire for everything we have, universally.
That's where we have mother universe of water💧/endless depths. Isis
The angelic, Halos or rings of energy..
The one who sits behind the dark veil.
Civilization we have the sun system usually represented by Ra 🔥fire tower of power. This was created by father time who delivered energy of consciousness to Lucifer the light bringer/be-ring-r/first born of father time and mother universe..
    The rah in stars..
Then we have the earth represented by totem pole nature balance.
    The charge El⚡ (electricity/elements)
All stories in the bible and Tora from "Jewish history" was thought by Egyptian universal priesthood. "Is-ra-el" and Babylon/Assyria.
These ascribed/scripture/scripts "scripted stories" are fictional stories created to hide scientific discoveries and tactical classified secrets..metaphorical concepts from the meta world, only understood through metaphysics..
The ultimate God of universal creation is real, but kept hidden from us..
Our world is a manifest creation or "recreation".. it's why we must go forth and "replenish".. "repopulate" "research" "report" and be delivered by the doc in berth/birth.. "new order"..
    'In flames'
"Dawn of a new day, has never looked/felt as good as this"
The morning star is our sun, salvation and what we all come from in Atom. We're elements of the sun.
Why we're Hydrogen/Water merry electricity and fire, carbon elements, Passion and Plasma..
"Marijuana" "Merry One An" nature from holy water (Ana).. "Angel reign/rain clouds and water in the desert" life. Mother universe water is Matriarch/matrix umbrella protection..
As we go forward together in worship💧 & warship🔥we don't know if we're prisoners in this fire creation, or willing participants. "Hotel California"
Conscious spiritual energy and physical soul power...Author of order ...
Morning Angel is the guide...our only salvation and gateway to the heavens if we ever come to understand our "starship enterprise"...
    Sun Rise & Son Set
If we look at the picture of the last supper..It's Judas giving away the secret with a whisper and the sun/son in the middle of 4 groups of 3 representing the seasons and months...
Like said before, this story is celestial, earthly and human social atmosphere in one.. it's a compacted truth...
    Universal order pyramid
    Civilization system tower
    Natural totem pole...

Opposing viewpoints needed. As a Columbia University Engineering graduate, I have followed Bart and other thinkers since graduation. My fascination with the topic is never-ending. I had to say something since you did this interview with Bart. Basically, I disagree with Bart's opinions and there are some pretty good factual arguments which corroborate the Bible's account of Jesus. You should interview Dr. Frank Turek, Dr. William Craig, and or Dr. Jordan Peterson for a counterpoint as Bart's views do NOT represent mainstream Christian Thought.

Considering mainstream Christian thought would vear away from any criticism of the bible at all your point is entirely moot in the context of historicity.
In fact I would say that any purported Christian scholar has an inherently biased perspective and cannot be truly objective about the subject.

Three New Testament passages contain citations from Greek pagan literature: Acts 17:28, 1 Corinthians 15:33, and Titus 1:12. Perhaps the most striking quotation occurs in Paul's letter to Titus and the young congregation on the island Crete. There we read, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” I would like to discuss the source of the quotation and Paul's reason for including it in his letter

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx 3 года назад +1

Through early trade, cultural exchange and later conquest of Greece the ancient Romans inherited the Hellenic Greek xenophobic bigotry towards Cretans which is mythological in origin (Minotaur, Athenian sacrifices etc) and lacks any historical/archaeological context considering the Minoan Cretans were largely peaceful traders as far as we know today.
Meanwhile the Hellenic Greek's ancestors the Mycenae were anything but peaceful as their own myths attest to - let alone what can be found in the archaeological record.
I'd suggest the entire myth originated much as the Norman conquest of Anglo Saxon Britain did - ie the Mycenae fired up their country men with lies of bull sacrifices to justify a war against what remained of Minoan Crete after the Santorini/Thera volcanic eruption decimated their naval power.

Twin of Jesus would explain how the "resurrection" occurred. And hence, why it was so important that Thomas doubted Jesus. How could Thomas pretend to be Jesus if he was in the same room? However, getting an honest answer from the disciples would be like expecting an honest answer from cigarette manufacturing CEOs.

During the time of king Herod. It parallels a lot of the wise men finding of Christ but with supernaturally weird difference. Definitely not mainstream.
