@@juhokuusisto9339 So? They both suck in comparison to ALICE. The only web gear better than ALICE is British PLCE, which is a pain to find in comparison.
Gotta love how Switzerland looked at this, took a step back, took a deep breath and asked itself: "How can we make this even worse?" And thus the _Grundtrageinheit 90_ was born.
This is not the worst! I had the predecessor when I served in the Bundeswehr, the german army. It was basically just a glorified suspenders that hooked into your belt. Impossible to put on and of and the hook would constantly pinch into you or snap out. A complete misconstrued pos conceived by someone who most certainly never had to use it. So wehn the „Lochkoppel“ came around it was a great improvement for us. Once you had it adjusted it served quite well and it was easy to put on and of.
i hated the KTS in 2006, but i didnt know anything other. now collect KTS 88 and KTS 90 and System 95. and by my Research i can not stand the stupidity, that we where forced to wear it wrong. Im in a Hate-Love relationship. now i waer it to play Airsoft.
I live in Korea. I owned this device, but it was a bit weird and not as user-friendly as I had hoped. So, recently, when I was selling German Bundeswehr equipment, I bought a US military LC-2 webbing gear set, and I think it is much more durable and practical than the German Bundeswehr equipment. I am very satisfied with the LC-2 and have no regrets selling the Bundeswehr webbing.
@@icorfieldtac "But what about those plastic studs that stick into the wearer skin? Maybe add padded inner belt for like 15 euros of expense?" "Nah, fuck em"
I remember trying to reload during basic while lying down. No joke I spend almost a whole goddamn minute trying to get that bloody mag out of the pouch. My instructor stood next to me but didn't yell or anything, I think he understood my pain there...
That’s not only the Koppels fault, but more the fault of the standard mags having those terrible clipping things some logistics guy wanted them to have
@@i3lackfusion I know, truly a match made in hell, we were literally told to store our mags sideways in the pouches when not carrying the Koppel so they could wear out and give the mags at least a bit more space
The Problem with the System is that it was 20 years too late. This US Alice System came out in the 1970s. This basically an "updated" Alice System and an update over the previous Carrying System of the German Army but it came out in the 1990s, by this point the US Army was already moving towards Tactical Vest and Chest Rigs because of the changes how they fougth wars. Away from basic infantry towards motorized forces. The Lochkoppel also wasn't created with body armor in mind, so the way you adjust the straps is cumbersome if you want to change it for that. Worse it came out at a time when the German Politicans basically trashed and downsized the Bundeswehr from a force of 2 million to a force of 200k because the Cold War endet. Then 10 years later 9/11 happened, the German Government wants to gain some brownypoints from the US Government, but it dosn't really have an army anymore to do it. People today in time of the Ukraine War joke about Putin and his claim that it's a "Special Military Operation" and not a war, but it took the German Government 6 fucking years to declare the Afghanistan War a fucking War and not a Humanitarian Mission.
When I was putting my kit together in the US I asked retired bundeswehr guys and gals about it and I got the impression that this system wasn't even that common until the late 90s, same with flecktarn camo not being ubiquitous until the 2000s due to budget issues. We started issuing stuff like the LBVE-88 in the 1988 and by 1998 we had stuff like the SPEAR system that was all MOLLE so it was well behind the curve especially by the time it became standard issue.
In the Greek army conscripted men use a kinda of modernized version of M67 that although it's vietnam era stuff I found it very comfortable because everything is strapped tightly on your body Indeed it's not hard for the average conscript that often isn't that fit, to carry up to 30kg with no issues at all
When I did my service, we were issued the predecessor, with the infamous Koppeltragehilfe. Which was essentially still WW2 style gear. The Lochkoppel (never used it myself) seems to me like one of those things where Germany was trying to reinvent something and completely missed the point. The russian Ratnik gear seems like a more useful take on classic load bearing equipment from what I’ve seen.
Too bad the Ratnik has basically a 500 hour usage life. I paid a fortune for mine 7 years ago, it can't even withstand airsoft. I have had a Lochkoppel for nearly 10 years and it has not budged so at least there's that.
@@PowermadNavigator That crappy, huh? I admittedly have only seen a video of it, just found it interesting that they stuck to the classic system with belt, suspenders and pouches over a plate carrier with a modular system, although I understand there’s also a version of that. But yeah, better bad gear that works (somehow) than seemingly good gear that doesn’t.
The Einheitskanister is the complete opposite example. A shit ton of engineering in something as simple as a fuel can, but every other fuel can was complete garbage, leaks easily, hard to transport and almost impossible to use more than once, while the Einheitskanister had every detail thought through and had no real flaw because of that. It's really funny actually
The worst was the British Army 58 pattern webbing and large pack, in use until the mid 90s in some units. Made of canvas which shrinks in rain, it has more in common with WW1 webbing than it does with any late 20th century webbing.
First this system is designed to be worn above the hip, second 20 years ago the folding spade was on the backpack and nobody carried it on the Koppel (except for special occasions, but never on your back), third if you carry your multipurpose bag on your Backside you can move through doors. And of course the system was Not Designed for CQB
@@icorfieldtac depends how much stuff you put inside, only the gasmask or your complete light NBC kit. But the bag is to bulky for what it is designated. The previous model, which I had, was much better to fold down.
who the hell invented this "german" jokes and really thought they are funny? Internet humor is becoming more and more a proof that young folks inhale too much nitrous oxide.
I was in the US Army as an infantryman and as a Paratrooper. By the way I was stationed in your lovely country from 1986-88 in Mainz at Lee Barracks. Well we had the ALICE system LBE, it wasn't terrible but it was very light and I did modify mines by finding extra items especially extra ammo pouches and my parents getting me the nylon butt pack. Our LBEs had to be by our battalion standard with belt, two ammo pouches, suspenders, one canteen pouch, canteen, canteen cup, rolled up poncho, ear plug case on a chain on the suspenders for garrison guard duty and inspection. This was standard US Army bullshit being in garrison in your country and state side, what we call "Dog and Pony Show". Going out to the field for exercises at Grafenwhor, Hoensfeld, Munster, Holland, and Luxembourg, my ALICE LBE I made it comfortable by having 4 ammo pouches, 2 canteens, butt pack, compass with pouch, and a Paratrooper IFAK. My battalion commander and Sergeant Major sometimes would get upset seeing me with my gear but luckily my squad leader would have the same stuff as me because he used to be in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg and RANGER qualified and a Grenada combat veteran. My squad leader was untouchable because my battalion commander and Sergeant Major are both Vietnam combat veterans and both former Paratroopers. I liked the ALICE LBE which I modified because I could wear it with my T-10 or MC-1 parachute and jump with it when I was in Panama during 1989-90 at my Airborne battalion. I wore my modified ALICE LBE for combat during the Panama Invasion which worked well. I kept mines till this day for hiking without weapons or ammo but for occasional range practice with my AR rifle and M4 carbine out in the desert here in Nevada. When I was in Iraq from 2006-08 all we had was MOLLE gear, all my pouches were attached to my INTERCEPTOR Body Armor with assault pack, ammo, radio, grenades, chem lights, knife, food, and Camel Back etc. In Iraq I had my soldiers carry more ammo, water, batteries for NVGs, radios, IFAK, and food to be ready for a fight for at least 72 hours like a Black Hawk Down scenario. Getting stuck like the Rangers in Somalia is what we prepared for in Iraq. We watched the movie over and over again during deployment training. The ALICE LBE is still very good because the US Army 25th Infantry Jungle School in Hawaii is evaluating a modified version. The chest rigg is good for urban combat going in and out of vehicles or houses, but the ALICE LBE is great for the jungle, forest, and I think any where because at least you can get in the prone position when needed. With a chest rig, I never could get in a prone or laying down position and crawl, going over walls in Iraq sucked with a chest rigg in combat.
I highly agree with you, and thank you for sharing your experiences! I was often labeled as a psycho for wearing this belt for 4 years + in the infantry, simply because i made it work like I showed it in the end. The only somewhat cool thing it has seen was the Orion Excercise in early 2023 we were kicked frenchies ass.
I used this system with the Swedish AK4 (G3) and I genuinely liked it. I ran it with 4x mag pouches which takes 2x G3 mags each. The "large pouch" you use on the right side I used as a butt-pack and ran 2x canteen pouches one on each side of the butt-pack. One canteen pouch for the actual canteen and one as a dumper for random things. The "large pouch" can hold a bladder on the back but for my purpose the 1L oldschool canteen was sufficient. I did the same thing you did with taping the adjustment straps which basically makes it "set-and-forget". Belt systems like this (preferably molle and padded) + plate carrier is the way to go in my opinion. It's biggest flaw is compatibility with modern gear such as holsters, dump pouches etc otherwise I think it's a decent massproduced system.
I cannot describe how much I love this video! It just feels so good to see a german soldier rant publicly about this stupid system that evereyone struggled with during AGA 😂
I've never really was in military, at least I haven't been conscripted yet. But I already had quite some experience with soviet and austrian gear. I love historical reenactment, mainly I do Red Army pre WW2 era and postwar Bundesheer (Austrian armed forces) starting somewhere in the midle of 50s to late 2010s (which means I have at least 5 kits) So reenacting, shooting blanks, running around, living in tents, hiking in uniform, carrying gear, eating with mess kits and others lovely stuff with other weirdos who happen to be other history nerds and you're friends as well. Pretty much you always gonna suffer from inconveniences of you're gear and/or uniform. And since I'm doing reenactment I can't really do modifications. At least the ones that get out of line and ruin the authentic look. All I can do is take on more, take on less, or put on my gear and pouches a little differently. It's alright but I wish some stuff were more convenient. For example I don't like shovels. I have about 4 shovels each for different era. And all of them stick out of you like a tail from butt. It's constantly in your way, they prevent you from sitting down, getting in or out of a vehicle, and they can just hang out when running. It's not just dangling, but when the gear is on you, it's as awkward as possible to get the shovel out and even more difficult to put it back in the pouch. Quite often you just have to ask your buddy to give you a hand. Also I hate boots. The soviet boots. Soviet at that time almost didn't have socks. So basically you need to wrap your feet in a piece of fabric (portyanka/ki) then put your boots on. There's an art of wrapping you're feet in "portyanka's". I'm poorly skilled at that and they always end up undone and my feet suffer. I have to keep rewinding them again and again. The worst thing you're stuck with them, you can't play a smart ass and try wearing boots without "portyanki's". The boots won't allow such violation of military rules and you'll regret that in your very first kilometer of march. You'll wipe your feet in blood, and the socks will tear. Once I walked about three kilometers without "portyanki". I had to ask my friend his fresh extra "portyanki's" basically buy them from him. Then I wrapped my bloody feet. At least it felt better that way. It was a long day and I wasn't able to walk normally for thee days straight. Good thing my feet heal fast.
I spent some time with Germans for a NATO Battlegroup. Was with the Panzer Grenadiers, every single one of them had either completely modified it or just gotten fucking plate carriers. I saw 2 admin dudes carry them, the rest was just privately purchased gear (Kinda jealous, ngl). It doesn't help that Flektarn isn't a super massively produced pattern (Professionaly, not airsoft), so I saw a mix of OD/Ranger greens and it was just a bit 'eh'. MG5 was fun though.
Nothing says "European Army" as whole bunch of self purchased gear and a wide savagely clashing mix of greens and patterns letting even the most first world army look like some tribal militia in the field.
Seems like an overly complicated carrying system but I did not have any problems with Spanish buckles in the Finnish Army. They are fast to open when you pull the tab to the side like they are meant to be used. Anyway, I wonder what the designers must have been thinking :D
My problem with them was, that it was sometimes a hassle to close them after mag change, when the puls is going up. And especially on the canteen pouch, if the pouch was older and used that the buckles would open by itself.
@@icorfieldtac You've changed the buckles. But what will happen to the new buckles if you're being dragged by the belts while you're wounded? Will they open? Will they burst?
"example the US uh if you're not a marine." Having been in the Marine Corps i felt that in my soul. When i went to boot camp in 2005 we were issued ALICE gear, besides the rucksack being ok the harness was a terrible nightmare of attaching stuff do to the metal clips that you attach to the pouch then to the belt, not to mention the clasps & buckles on the pouches were usually crap. As others have pointed out in the comments Marine Corps boot camp stopped issuing ALICE gear to recruits after 2010. All that being said the Lochkoppel system looks like a complete pain to work with, my condolences to any who are issued it.
I have several sets of LBEs from different countries and I agree the Bundeswehr stuff really is the worst. The plastic mounting system really digs into your hips, and the belt/harness material is way too thin. I'm not military but from my hiking and shooting experience here in the PNW the British PLCE still feels like the best balance.
Please note, that the "Koppeltragesystem 90" was introduced with the "Splitterschutzweste" during the 80s when our american allies still used Vietnam era ALICE-Gear. Early MOLLE gear were introduced in the late 90s with widespread use in the 2000s. MOBAST-Armour is still in the process of being introduced. Compared with the last ALICE-Generation of the Desert Storm days the "Koppeltragesystem 90" is very advanced and much more comfortable to wear. I mean - come on - it's 1980s/90s stuff! Those Mag Pouches are not for the G-36. They are made for the G3 7.62 NATO mags. That is why they are straight!!! Padding was not as much a necessaty because you would wear this over the Splitterschutzweste. If you wear it as combo you will also notice that you can still acces that neat litte chest pocket of the protective vest. There is a reason why you wear your harness over body armour. If you got stuff under your armour (a pen or buckle for example) a hitting projectile transmits the enegy over the vest to that device and might turn it in a secondary projectile hurting you. N-E-V-E-R wear hard and potential brittle stuff under your (soft) body amour!!! Real good modern buckles lock on three points and not just on the sides. Why on earth would you change the main belt Buckle to your back? In an emergency you must be able to get rid of that stuff quickly. Think of some sticky and burning effectors, maybe escape from strong acids, maybe you need to get into your CRBN overgarment quickly or you just fell into deep water and it drags you down.
To your why belt buckle in the back question. You have more attachment points at the front, where its needed, instead of at the back where those are pretty much useless. In OTV times you see lots of US soldiers wearing their LBE also backwards, with the buckle in the back, for this very reason. When you used to this method, you will get rid of the LBE as quick as with the bbuckle in the front.
You bring up some very solid points, Sir. But some of your aspects are BS, i'm sorry. 1. The mag pouches are made for G36 Mags, how can you tell? Because they are way too long for G3 20rd mags and there are SEPARATE G3 Mag pouches available! So you are wrong there, Sir. 2. I partially agree with you with the buckle on the rear of the rig. However with my buckles on the harness, i can quickly exit the harness and put it back it on. I've been wearing this system for several years on excercises in different places of europe with all types if scenarios happening. So yes, I have my reasons why i modified it in certain ways because it WORKED in the real world, Sir. Please inform yourself properly.
It is crazy, and I thought that we had bad/ obsolete gear back in 2013.- in basic training. But this is even worse. The only good thing is that the issued gear is so uncomfortable that the military forces the german soldier to learn how to modify the issued gear and work with needle and sewing machine :D
Your modification is great. I really like it. It makes way more sense like that. Even if I think the original was that bad back in my days decades ago. The setup I was using was different than the ordered one you have show. Things like that can vary between different units. Some say do your individual setup others say everybody needs to have the same setup. However, your idea is great. If I was still in service I would probably do a similar setup.
It might suck for actual field duty, but I use this Lochkoppel for Airsoft - its great. Its quite light and the puches are really cheap. The G3 mag pouches are perfect to fit 2 STANAG mags inside and you can easily put 4 of these on your front, meaning 8 mags or 6 mags and some loaders. The MP2 mag pouches are good for MP7/MP5 or an STG44 mag, the "canteen" pouch for a gas bottle.
i like that thing a little (as a Baselayer, few Pouches, and a Chestrig), i didnt have to much problems with it personally, but its just a very cheap system, they could have made and issued way better Things to that Time... btw. in 2016/17 i still had that issued... and you can fit both, the M2000 and the M65 into that Gasmask Pouch haha (Good for storage)
The only time we're this thing was ok to wear is, when you had a bunch layers underneath or a body armour vest. But wearing it standalone is just pure cancer. My hips still hate me for it
I bought it here in my post soviet country mainly because I liked the camo pattern and because it looked cool, man was it trash, what I did to improve it: took off the shoulder straps, put one paracord through the plastic things on the end of each of the 4 straps, put an alice belt through them, to attach the pouches to the belt I cut the original belt into pieces to use these pieces as makeshift adapters, I put another paracord through the adapters and attached them to the same alice belt with shoulder straps, sits somewhat comfortable, idk where to post the pictures
Yeah, i've seen a video of a live fire excercise we are guy was reloading with this belt rig... The mag pouches on your belts are more 100rd MG Pouches 😂
@@icorfieldtac hahaha yes. It is horrible. At least I was able to use my own vest and rig on some exercises because the lieutenant himself knew that we should get new equipment. It’s all politics and money, and as we stay neutral, there is no need to inject that amount of money on new equipment for now. Maybe on some couple years
Yes, they made a jacket/smock, with almost a dozen pockets even with a backpack clipped on the back. Was a good idea on paper, but in reality, having an extremly heavy jacket, that fits loosely over your body is just cumbersome and uncomfortable.
Very informative video. I don't know anything about military issues, but you opened my mind. I feel you, I'd like to scream into the camera as well, don't know if it is because of your humor or because even your cat does not want to fit xD it's not like you were a blacksmith and you have time to make your own tools for future business, you should be combat ready right away, not only wearing it comfortly also seeing purpose and functionality in its use. But you modify it as you please anyways and that's a mindset more worthy than Lochkoppel itself ^^ hope your friend will enjoy your gift/sell. Thanks for sharing and take care!
oh man die gute alte Lochkoppel. Schreckliches Scheissteil hahaha. RIchtig geil war auch immer wenn aufm marsch der Rucksack auf der Koppel aufgesessen hat, wodurch dann die Koppel gescheuert hat wie sau. Dienstlich geliefert halt :D. Die klappernde Flaschenhalterung war auch legendär.
The webbing system was developed for a conscript army during the Cold War; it needed to be cheap and quick to produce. Body armor was not intended in this context, and CQB (close quarters battle) wasn't a major focus. In this regard, it served its purpose and was simply overtaken by time. It’s worth noting that the best soldier makes do with the equipment provided to them, which highlights the adaptability of the soldier. I had to use it and didn’t like it either, but it served the purpose for which it was developed.
wait until you see stridsbälte 304k we used in the Swedish military until the 90's. It's inspired by ww2 british paratrooper's kit. Bare bones alice belt with quick adjustable suspenders (that get loose and extends when you run) two huge pouches in the front secured by friction, 800ML waterpouch that dangles and a breadbag with two buckles to secure it. If you were issued one.
You have a carrying strap in your NBC pouch, allowing you to carry it like a handbag. If you carry it beneath your chest rig, it sits beneath your mag pouches, allowing you to still reach your gas mask and freeing up hip space.
I just felt it was not on pare for what the german military advancement and quality. In America we would just assume people were handed lots of money. Or maybe its like the 53 million $ program to produce the ACU military uniform that nobody can explain 🤔
As a Fallschirmjäger veteran i approve BUT In the 90s ( Wiesel operator ) when this Webbing system was introduced we ALWAYS wore this over the "Splitterschutzweste" as intended ( Flak vest) & never needed "Padding" , the "Fastening & Adjusting" wasnt easy but only done once to fit . GLÜCK AB ! 😉
Sounds like the same issue we have in the British army reserve. A lot of guys, and myself are still using the PLCE system. Some still using DPM webbing and bergens. I know what you mean with the Spanish clips. I got myself a pair of velcro ammo pouches after I finished the little bit of basic training we do as reservists. We also have our gas mask in its own pouch, which is attached to the front of the bergen, or have it attached to our side when in use. I also don't see why the German army issues you oversized pouches. But I guess that's the army for you 😂 we also have a culture of soldiers buying their own kit, or modding the issued kit
@@icorfieldtac Ja.
You haven't held it in your hands. I think this system is very simple and much better, simpler, more convenient and more reliable than ALICE or MALICE or PLCE 90-95.
Echt niedlich Dein Umbau. Danke für das Video. Ich habe auch eins über das beste Beltkit der Welt gemacht, komme aber zu nem anderen Schluss- :-) Stabiles Editing.
I would argue the Canadian 64 pattern set is the worst ever! The yoke is thin webbing about 3cm wide that digs into your shoulders. Everything is held on with velcro so the pouches fall off all the time and it doesn't even have pouches for your magazines- you carry them in the pockets of your combat tunic instead!
British '58 pattern as issued back in my time was awful, it had no space to carry anything in the large pack so you were forced to buy your own bergen, not only was it uncomfortable and was horrible because it used to bounce around in a strength sapping manner, it would rub holes in you on the longer runs known as 'webbing burns', the 26 mile endurance run, and it was a run and not a walk at the end of training that the Light Division did back in the 80's was absolute hell with it, to make it more entertaining the GPMG and the 84mm Carl Gustav was passed around to you on the run so you also ran with that on top for a few miles this was done without stopping too, when it got wet it got stiff because it was made of thick cotton webbing was almost impossible to manipulate in a hurry, in my unit blokes would at a minimum junk the kidney pouches, and replace them with waterbottle pouches and have the pouches sewn together to stop them bouncing around, as far as the spade was concerned it was a much larger non folding one that the wooden handle used to fit into a spike on the yoke, and if you had it the wrong way around the blade would dig into the back of your legs while you ran, so it became a common prank to turn it around if someone left their webbing on the ground unattended. happy days.. I hated carrying the shovel as well as the NBC gear the most.. if possible I would always try and get the pick axe instead as it was easier to carry and the head went in the cape carrier.
Hate to break it to ya, the Infantry is the disposable meat of the Army. That's why you don't get good gear. What's funny is I preferred my ALICE belt and harness to the MOLLE vest. I was early GWOT so I was there during the transition from ALICE to MOLLE. But being Scout Cav I was in and out of vehicles a lot and the belt kept my upper body clear for fighting out of vehicles.
@@Gravity_studioss as soon as you start to go on Missions you get new stuff. After basic Training you can Buy your own equipment as well but only If you showed that you deserve it If not will other soldiers take it away from you.
I use a Zentauron molle snap rig with an H harness over my KTS95 belt and harness. The snap rig gives me PALS webbing for IFAK, TQ, admin and radio pouches. It works but its not a great solution as I have to put on the lochkoppel and then put on the snap rig, so its like getting dressed twice.
That was a trip thorough memory lane. BTW the Mehrzwecktasche was so big to be able to fir the Essegschirr (PI-Pott) aka your Meal bucket. With that in it it was already quite full. The ABC-Bag originally also included a NBC-Poncho. During my time in 2008 we trained to quickly put on that Poncho. You had just a few seconds to do it.
Seems like back then NBC stuff was more readily available/issued. Today you only get the NBC mask and the IFAK related to it. If you were to need it, you would get the real filter. But thats it, only wore the whole-body suit once and that was it. I remember when the invasion happened, leadership was super autistic about ,,Vollzähligkeit ABC Mat", guess what, still didnt get shit almost 3 years afterwards.
@icorfieldtac the funny bit: we did not get the proper poncho. They kept it for training and gave it to us only occasionally. We did get issued a simplified poncho, similar to the NVA Ponchi. Basically a bright green trashbag. I've "lost mine" very early.
Look at Mr. Fancy Pants with his "new" mask pouch! The old olive drab-colored pouch that was meant to be worn with the strap was even worse. In basic training, we were ordered to ditch the strap and use carabiners. That made for one less strap to twist or catch onto something - but that heavy-ass mask pouch would flail around with every single move. It pulled the entire rig down on one side when not moving. It would also shimmy underneath you when moving prone. Come to think of it, it felt more like a suitcase instead of a pouch. The canteen pouch was very okay. Having to carry the canteen inside its container inside the pouch was not, though! Cumbersome to get the canteen out and even more so to put it back in because the container would catch onto the lip of the pouch. Of course, we also used to carry the spade right at the back.
Did wear that 20 years ago while in Grundwehrdienst (Basic Training). This Webbing was nuts. We had to wear a Mask Pouch that would flop around and hook me to door handles and whatnot. Over that we would don The Haversack Backpack with Tentpegs, Tarp, Sandbag to make it heavy. Together with Spade, Canteen, Water Flask, one hear us Luftwaffensoldaten from afar going Flop-Clank-Clonk-Ouch-Stomp. The Mod you show here is nice. Padding Looks great.put The Neoprene in Coolmax fabric might help in the Summer.
The KTS95 is one big piece of sh!t. I simply hated it. When it was created back then, the far more comfy US IIFS Tactical Load Carrying Vests were already around, so you know how much the Bundeswehr doesn´t like you. I never liked the chest rig carry, but I modified my KTS into a PLCE. Companies like KHS or Heim offered a variety of yokes and belt pads. I had a decent padding for the belt and the yoke. Then added four Tasmanian Tiger double mag pouches on the left and right of the buckle (the original belt accepts large Molle-Clips), followed by two water bottle pouches on each side (with Hosengummis around each pouch for compression and to prevent unintended opening; 2 for water bottles, 1 IFAK, 1 utility) and as an option the big utility pouch on the back. This was really comfy and worked for me. I really hate the Bundeswehr for trying to combine KTS95 and IDZ for such a long time - what a waste of time and money. In the mid-90s it was perfectly clear that future individual equipment has to be centered around body armor and they f|_|ck3d it up.
Yeah, remember those MOLLE adapters that would let you attach Koppel-Pouches to a MOLLE Body Armour Vest? Pure Cancer. I used one time on the Obstacle Course (HiBa) and had to scramble my magazines from the ground after that
From personal experience with my own surplus set the Lochkoppel seems to have a knack for loosening itself and flopping around. The harness seems to always be back heavy no matter how much or little load is on the belt itself. Cool piece of kit but not very comfortable or user friendly
one size fits all, SGtMaj say: big pouch? FILL it up with everything you will not need. Everyone must have everything in exactly the same place. Must be on your body because you might drop packs.
What ever this...abomination is, send it back to hell. I was in the USMC 2016-2020 and this kit makes my old setup look like a lambo. We didn't use our LBV which is kind of like this thing but molle, nor did I use my molle combat belt aside from ceremonies and rifle qualification. What I did use was my USMC Gen 2 platecarrier, 3 mag pouches that hold 6 PMags (two pouches on my belly flap and one next to them, all favoring my left side), dump pouch (on my left butt cheek) that could be rolled up, 2 single grenade pouches (doubled as ear pro pouch) on my chest, tourniquet on my left shoulder, and a hydration pouch on the back for a camelbak bladder. I clipped my brain bucket to my right shoulder strap when I wasn't wearing it and my gloves (Mechanix M-Pact, I bought them) lived on a carabiner hooked through a molle loop. Our gas mask had it's own bag that we wore on our leg and my E-Tool was in/on my assault bag with both my canteen pouches, sustainment pouches, and rifle cleaning kit. We had one more mag that went in our rifle for a total of seven mags. Another thing that was catching on as I got was using 550 cord to tie a paint can opener to your carrier to help clear malfunctions.
the KTS is worn wrong. it was pland for MP2 and G3 only two Magpouches. look, there are no Pouches on the Back, Klappspaaten or Mehrzwecktasche "Sturmgepäck" like a daypack. yes the Entranchingtool on the back is a litte bit silly... the ABC is made to be worn with a sholder strap, like a simple Bag. aaand we wear the hip elt to low
Looks like the GT system I currently use in the Swiss army. Worse fucking piece of equipment I've used. Absolute shit. And as an officer in the infantry, considering we have a mandatory service and that not everybody is motivated to have his stuff properly set up (At least until there's an NCO or Officer who yells at them to put their stuff together): Everywhere I go there's at least one or two soldiers where their GT is an absolute disaster, because it is a piece of crap to set up and sometimes breaks or falls apart with time. I hope they will get rid of that shit ASAP. Outdated, dysfunctional, and not adapted for infantry duty, especially when talking about close quarter combat.
This is outdated information. It used to be the standard equipment system, but the army has actually been introducing the "KBS" System, and while everyone still has a Lochkoppel in their issue kit, everyone, including non combat units are now getting issued personal ballistic vests with a Molle kit and a new personal equipment set.
You haven't tried Finnish m/85 carrying system. It weights empty around 15 kilos and doesn't provide any ballistic protection and it features only 3 mag pouches. You're meant to be issued 6 mags in the wartime, where do you put the rest? Trouser pockets! You are also told to put mag pouch on the right hand side and huge bottle/shovel/hearing protection pouch(similar to 7:00 ) on the left, right where your ribs are. Guess what happens when you try to leapfrog? You get punched in the rib If you want to get any semblance of comfort and efficiency, you should put pouches the "wrong" side and pretend to be a lefty whenever officer is looking. Luckily they replaced this abomination and from looks of it burned it, because its a really rare find.
British Army webbing system is similar however we had the opportunity to have what we wanted depending on the situation and deployment. It took a while to get it to fit perfectly and comfortable. My set was customised to me and I could run all day without it bouncing all over the place. Even when I was in camp and off deployments I would have up to 35lbs (16 kgs) weights in the pouches and train with it.
Yeah my biggest hate is the damn g36 knobs on the mags. Absolutely useless / mismatched with the mags. Legends say that the arma equipment clacking while running was recorded from koppel systems
I have G36 mag pouches to use with my C93, HK33 parts kit rifle, and they aren't bad for taking mags out thankfully, I guess I'll see how bad it is once I rventually get a G3 clone rifle lol. I also dont really ever wear it without also wearing the accompanying flak jacket as well so that adds some padding for it
Ive just got a G3 GBBR for airsoft and this got me into German ''modular'' webbing systems. Every option is so bad that Ive started learning sowing to make some G3 MOLLE pouches myself ... its that bad!!
I bought a set of surplus for my hunting kit, because my old Canadian one has too much padding on the straps to get a fast shot off on a bird. I agree it’s not the best kit in the world. It’s just old fashioned and works fine. How often do you need to adjust stuff, or change pouches? The easier it is to adjust the easier it is to come loose. It’s no where near as bad as you say. And they’re so cheap to buy online.
@@icorfieldtac As I said, it’s light, and cheap to use as hunting kit. I didn’t say it was awesome tactical gear. I’ve never seen one before, but had it adjusted…..in a little while. Yes, for sure I had to sit and figure it out, but had it figured out and adjusted in an evening. You go to a hunting store and you can buy a belt pack with shoulder straps that just so cool, but pay like $150+, or order one of these for like $30, and a few bucks more for a couple extra pouches. My other set up is an old school belt kit, with modern pouches, but the dam thing is heavy, and the padded straps are too thick to quickly shoulder my shotgun quickly. Tactical kit should support the job at hand. This is cheap, light, and doesn’t interfere with my gun and or my ability. If I have the money one day for something light and better, I’ll use it.
" It’s no where near as bad as you say." have you ever used that kit in a combat training scenario? If not you shouldn't be telling a person who has used it in such conditions that " It’s no where near as bad as you say.".
@@sirridesalot6652 He complained about how the system for attaching it to the belt is, but militaries from several countries, including canada, used that system for decades. The large pack I have is waterproofed as well. Compared to my Frankenstein old Canadian kit, it’s very lightweight, and definitely not as durable, however it is lighter to carry. I think my Canadian kit is way better for heavier loads, but I prefer the German one for small game hunting, because it is lightweight, and the straps, not being padded, are way easier to mount my shotgun. With a 100yr old Spanish 20g SxS, the narrow stock makes it impossible to shoulder to padded straps.
The Canadians beat y'all to this with the 82 Pattern :). I remember my Canadian counterparts talking shit about it, but then saying it was a big improvement over their previous web gear. All of it looked overly complex to me and it made me appreciate (despite it's limitations) my issue ALICE gear.
I recently got this system's belt, only the belt, and a helmet cover fleckarn/snow compatible with my local-made M1. I never saw those before and think both looks super cool! Didn't realized it was so bad gear in actual use!
Putting a spare magazine aside in case of a firefight was already taught in 1998 - and we had G3 Rifles with smooth magazines at that time. The Lochkoppel was not that bad, when it was introduced. But it´s in service for nearly 30 years now and has become dated.
I don't get why people dump cr4p so much on this. It is 30 years old. I was designed for a different time, different circumstances than today. And, it is not completely useless. The key is, you have to adjust it well. For private tacticool purposes, you can combine it with other stuff. Myself, I have one pimped up with an 80s style US light vest. That one provides padded should straps, more pouches along the straps and various hooks to attach other stuff like flashlights etc. And no, I don't use it to play soldies in the woods, I use it as a tool carrier when working up a ladder and situations like that. Looks a bit funny, but works well. With some customization regarding the attached pouches, you get a system that is pretty light, has lots of storage options, fits well and does not hinder you if you arrange stuff properly (which is the problem in the military, the prescribed set of pouches and the arrangement of them is suboptimal).
@@icorfieldtac I said this is what I use mine nowadays for, Sir. I did carry this while I was in the military, and I think I went into great lengths of why the military issued stuff is problematic and giving this a bad rep, and what can be done to make the experience with it much better, even for active service personell!
I’ve enjoyed my set, I have the 10L on the back like a buttpack like on an Alice rig, use it for far more than shooting too. I do 100% agree that the adjustment is absolute shit, mine seems to slip after a good bit of walking, though I could have them looped wrong
thats the reason i dumped the Lochkoppel after Basic Training and did buy a private one fully polstered with integrated Pouches and so on no wobble for me at the time and it wasnt olive Grün....nope my new Koppel that i bought was multicam... that Lochkoppel was a nightmare when u carry ur big backpack and it pushed the multibag on ur back down so the shoulderharniss slices in ur shoulders....pure nightmare.....^^
To be honest, only the mag pouches were ass. I miss the rest of the Koppel, it sure as hell beats Mobast ^^ And by the way, once you are out of Basic you can use the shoulder belt for the NBC Pouch, with that under your Koppel it fits perfectly under the the rest of the Poucher, making it possible to fuck arround with the Koppel some more.
I honestly like how when the Canadian Army came around in the 1980s with the 82 Pattern Webbing and then the Bundeswehr just copied it and turned it into the Lochkoppel in the 1990s. I do admit as a 82 Pattern Webbing user, the Lochkoppel seems a lot more better and advanced and unlike the 82, it can properly be worn over body armour. Also similarities in magazine carry, both Canadian and Bundeswehr soldiers (in most army units) carrying up to 5 magazines in training. Meanwhile active duty/regular soldiers in both armies have better vest and chest rigs and carry up to 7-10 magazines. It is only when everyone is deployed to a international training exercise (NATO exercises) or deployed overseas is when everybody gets better gear. Edit: Speaking about the spade/shovel, unlike the Bundeswehr, Canadian soldiers during the 1980s and present day DO NOT carry their spades on the webbing. Although there was a pouch created for the spade to be used on the webbing, it was decided to have the spades/shovels in the vehicles or in the rucksacks. Sadly, unlike the Bundeswehr, Canadian soldiers had wear the small pack/"butt pack" on the 82 webbing, which added extra weight and uncomfortable when sitting against a wall or a seat in a vehicle. When it comes to the gasmask pouch, on the Canadian webbing it was worn on the left side of the webbing OR the gasmask pouch was worn on a separate sling and the webbing worn on top of it.
In Greece conscripted men are using using a modernized version of the M67 webbing Actually Career soldiers using it as well to avoid using more modern equipment reserved only " in case really needed" But honestly why the German military had to make it so complicated and not just adopt an already existing-proven system? 🤔 For example the m67 although is literally vietnam era design is completely adjustable and comfortable to wear, you can literally carry up to 30kg of equipment on you and not feel it at all 😏
german military: Buys the most useless and outdated stuff made from the lowest bidder in horrible quality german soldier: Invests own money in better gear and equipment german military: The use of privately owned equipment is prohibited.
what i did after basic, i bought some mags, cut the knobs off and put them perpendicular in the mag pouch to how you should put them in to strech them out a bit. helped massively to make reloads easier. still hated the "to reload, take a new mag out, hold it next to the spent one, swap mags and put mag back" because of my short fingers i couldnt do that reliably without eventually dropping mags by accident because i was fumbling with the super tight mag pouches. i used the multi purpose pouch as a droppouch and got the old mag out, THEN taking a new mag, reloading the weapon. so idiotic this lochkoppel
I struggled with that myself aswell. Did the same thing with stretching out the mag pouches, but swapping mags i used the ,,L-technique". Hard to describe but its what you see with people using the AR-15 when they change mags
@icorfieldtac L technique is better but still I had this "I will fumble this when I need it" so I don't train it. You know "train like you fight, fight like you train". So I either dropped the mag and replaced it or pulled it out to put it in the drop pouch and then reloaded. I was fairly fast with this too and since I wasn't commando but only a gebirgsjäger the milliseconds difference wouldn't matter too much
This reminds of that one time we visited the Gebirgsjäger for Mountain Warfare training when we were in the middle of climbing the Hochstaufen and the Heeresbergführer told us: ,,While climbing, what do you do, when you get in contact?" We were all like ,,One team rappels down and the other team fires?" Didn't even finish the sentence and said ,,YOU FUCKING DIE, THATS WHAT YOU DO"
So the Germans essentially looked at the US's ALICE system and said: "How can we make this more complicated and obnoxious?"
No, it was a copy of the Canadian 82 Pattern LBE.
@@juhokuusisto9339 So? They both suck in comparison to ALICE. The only web gear better than ALICE is British PLCE, which is a pain to find in comparison.

Same here - half of basic training was getting used to getting into that old gear 😂
This looks like a WWII webbing trying act like a modern chest rig, except the WWII gas canisters were much smaller!
It didn´t fill with water either when raining.
The thought process behind this was, i believe: ,,Just make something that holds stuff, thats cheap and don't break."
At leas, at first glance, it looks cool...

Amen to that, Sir
When I was putting my kit together in the US I asked retired bundeswehr guys and gals about it and I got the impression that this system wasn't even that common until the late 90s, same with flecktarn camo not being ubiquitous until the 2000s due to budget issues. We started issuing stuff like the LBVE-88 in the 1988 and by 1998 we had stuff like the SPEAR system that was all MOLLE so it was well behind the curve especially by the time it became standard issue.
In the Greek army conscripted men use a kinda of modernized version of M67 that although it's vietnam era stuff I found it very comfortable because everything is strapped tightly on your body
Indeed it's not hard for the average conscript that often isn't that fit, to carry up to 30kg with no issues at all
When I did my service, we were issued the predecessor, with the infamous Koppeltragehilfe.
I admittedly have only seen a video of it, just found it interesting that they stuck to the classic system with belt, suspenders and pouches over a plate carrier with a modular system, although I understand there’s also a version of that. its not overengeneered it was bad engeneering and is totally outdated. at least in my oppinion.
Try to use old webbing of bw😂
The worst was the British Army 58 pattern webbing and large pack, in use until the mid 90s in some units. Made of canvas which shrinks in rain, it has more in common with WW1 webbing than it does with any late 20th century webbing.
First this system is designed to be worn above the hip, second 20 years ago the folding spade was on the backpack and nobody carried it on the Koppel (except for special occasions, but never on your back), third if you carry your multipurpose bag on your Backside you can move through doors.
And of course the system was Not Designed for CQB
But what if your multipurpose bag was on the back and you to put your Gasmask Pouch on the side?
Can you still move through doors?
@@icorfieldtac depends how much stuff you put inside, only the gasmask or your complete light NBC kit.

Well, the Gasmask pouch is so huge because it's supposed to fit your entire NBC kit, poncho, raincoat and mask and gloves.
Well, great that the average soldier boy only gets issued a quarter of it
I cannot describe how much I love this video!
It just feels so good to see a german soldier rant publicly about this stupid system that evereyone struggled with during AGA 😂

Thank you very much, good Sir!
I've never really was in military, at least I haven't been conscripted yet. But I already had quite some experience with soviet and austrian gear. I love historical reenactment, mainly I do Red Army pre WW2 era and postwar Bundesheer (Austrian armed forces) starting somewhere in the midle of 50s to late 2010s (which means I have at least 5 kits)
So reenacting, shooting blanks, running around, living in tents, hiking in uniform, carrying gear, eating with mess kits and others lovely stuff with other weirdos who happen to be other history nerds and you're friends as well.

@@icorfieldtac I agree. The buckle is probably meant to be kept open during combat but I prefer velcro pouches, like the new Savotta-made pouches.

Normal soldier only put those once. So the mounting system is not the problem.
Legendary was also that every conscript had to stich it on his own in my unit. If you messed up and it won’t fit, you start again.
Pure insanity
i like that thing a little (as a Baselayer, few Pouches, and a Chestrig), i didnt have to much problems with it personally, but its just a very cheap system, they could have made and issued way better Things to that Time...
btw. in 2016/17 i still had that issued...
and you can fit both, the M2000 and the M65 into that Gasmask Pouch haha (Good for storage)
The only time we're this thing was ok to wear is, when you had a bunch layers underneath or a body armour vest.
But wearing it standalone is just pure cancer. My hips still hate me for it
I bought it here in my post soviet country mainly because I liked the camo pattern and because it looked cool, man was it trash, what I did to improve it: took off the shoulder straps, put one paracord through the plastic things on the end of each of the 4 straps, put an alice belt through them, to attach the pouches to the belt I cut the original belt into pieces to use these pieces as makeshift adapters, I put another paracord through the adapters and attached them to the same alice belt with shoulder straps, sits somewhat comfortable, idk where to post the pictures
we have the same shit on switzerland. We hate it too
Yeah, i've seen a video of a live fire excercise we are guy was reloading with this belt rig...
Maybe on some couple years
And the Swiss even tried to incorporate all the pouches and pockets into the clothes way back when, didn’t they?
Yes, they made a jacket/smock, with almost a dozen pockets even with a backpack clipped on the back.
Was a good idea on paper, but in reality, having an extremly heavy jacket, that fits loosely over your body is just cumbersome and uncomfortable.
Well the MBAS should be introduced for around 3 years now, but its still unclear when the actual introduction time will be.

Ist einfach ne deutsche schlechte Kopie vom amerikanischen ALICE gear.

You haven't held it in your hands. I think this system is very simple and much better, simpler, more convenient and more reliable than ALICE or MALICE or PLCE 90-95.
@@98129user okay. Your opinion.
Echt niedlich Dein Umbau. Danke für das Video. Ich habe auch eins über das beste Beltkit der Welt gemacht, komme aber zu nem anderen Schluss- :-) Stabiles Editing.
Vielen Dank, ich schau mal bei Dir rein.
It is compatible with Canadian 82 pattern kit though so thats kinda nice.
Jede Sekunde Gold!
Canada had a webbing system that was pretty much a copy of this, it's awful in retrospect but compared to what the CAF had before this was space age.
Hate to break it to ya, the Infantry is the disposable meat of the Army. That's why you don't get good gear.
What's funny is I preferred my ALICE belt and harness to the MOLLE vest. I was early GWOT so I was there during the transition from ALICE to MOLLE. But being Scout Cav I was in and out of vehicles a lot and the belt kept my upper body clear for fighting out of vehicles.
learn to fight with bad equipment so you can fight better with good equipment.
Honestly not a bad thought process. This webbing would only be a Problem if it was not replaced by something better after basic training
Like this you don’t know how to use your good equipment when you fight
@@Gravity_studioss as soon as you start to go on Missions you get new stuff. After basic Training you can Buy your own equipment as well but only If you showed that you deserve it If not will other soldiers take it away from you.

@@youngdenard264 what are you talking about ?
I use a Zentauron molle snap rig with an H harness over my KTS95 belt and harness. The snap rig gives me PALS webbing for IFAK, TQ, admin and radio pouches. It works but its not a great solution as I have to put on the lochkoppel and then put on the snap rig, so its like getting dressed twice.
Oh yea the hip scraping and the energy sucking wobbling of the rear puch - i got a TT vest as soon as i got permission and never looked back.
Ah yes, the BW Regenponcho, i believe is what you are referring to... Great piece of gear 👌🏼
This is so bad. I couldn't imagine going to war with the default system. There are so many good cheap chest rigs out there.
Thats why we would be instructed to use our hand sewing kit do stitch the adjusting straps together so that it wouldnt loosen itself
one size fits all, SGtMaj say: big pouch?
Still takes a while for everyone to get.
Been in for several years and i still didn't get it.
You get punched in the rib
If you want to get any semblance of comfort and efficiency, you should put pouches the "wrong" side and pretend to be a lefty whenever officer is looking.
I also dont really ever wear it without also wearing the accompanying flak jacket as well so that adds some padding for it
I can't count the amount of magazine pouches that were lost on the obstacle course during my basic training
Broooooo, i feel you.
The IDZ-MOLLE adapters that you could attach the Koppel-Magpouches to MOLLE were even worse.
Ive just got a G3 GBBR for airsoft and this got me into German ''modular'' webbing systems. Every option is so bad that Ive started learning sowing to make some G3 MOLLE pouches myself ... its that bad!!
"A German Military-Exercise into France...." 😬
I bought a set of surplus for my hunting kit, because my old Canadian one has too much padding on the straps to get a fast shot off on a bird. I agree it’s not the best kit in the world. It’s just old fashioned and works fine. How often do you need to adjust stuff, or change pouches? The easier it is to adjust the easier it is to come loose. It’s no where near as bad as you say. And they’re so cheap to buy online.
It is as bad as i say, if you are doing 21st century stuff with it, Sir
@sirridessalot6652 Thank you, Sir! 🙏🏼
At last someone with a sense of logic
Its not that bad. Attaching and removing pouches is lightning fast. Just don't overload it. And the h-harness uses cotton canvas.
9:42 Non existent, but the Brits got such an awesome fucking LBE system
Thank you, Sir.
You're probably one of the only people who served way ahead of me who isn't defending the Koppel with their lives
I got absolutely fucking jumpscared after bro said Moritz
Working stuff up the ladder is nowhere near comparable then using it is an infantryman in the 21st century, Sir.
@@icorfieldtac I said this is what I use mine nowadays for, Sir. I did carry this while I was in the military, and I think I went into great lengths of why the military issued stuff is problematic and giving this a bad rep, and what can be done to make the experience with it much better, even for active service personell!

The lochkoppel is the BMW of web gear. Overly designed so that nobody knows how to use it.
Atleast the BMW is worth money.
To be honest, only the mag pouches were ass. I miss the rest of the Koppel, it sure as hell beats Mobast ^^
And by the way, once you are out of Basic you can use the shoulder belt for the NBC Pouch, with that under your Koppel it fits perfectly under the the rest of the Poucher, making it possible to fuck arround with the Koppel some more.
I've just ordered a tailor's dummy for my webbing!
In Greece conscripted men are using using a modernized version of the M67 webbing
Actually Career soldiers using it as well to avoid using more modern equipment reserved only " in case really needed"
But honestly why the German military had to make it so complicated and not just adopt an already existing-proven system? 🤔
For example the m67 although is literally vietnam era design is completely adjustable and comfortable to wear, you can literally carry up to 30kg of equipment on you and not feel it at all 😏
You can tell he's German because he has black hair, eyes, and brown skin.
Yes, Siiiiiirrrr 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
german military: Buys the most useless and outdated stuff made from the lowest bidder in horrible quality
german soldier: Invests own money in better gear and equipment
german military: The use of privately owned equipment is prohibited.
Singapore Armed Forces, since we're a conscript army, we all get the same shitty gear, from recruits to the regulars
what i did after basic, i bought some mags, cut the knobs off and put them perpendicular in the mag pouch to how you should put them in to strech them out a bit.
helped massively to make reloads easier. still hated the "to reload, take a new mag out, hold it next to the spent one, swap mags and put mag back" because of my short fingers i couldnt do that reliably without eventually dropping mags by accident because i was fumbling with the super tight mag pouches. i used the multi purpose pouch as a droppouch and got the old mag out, THEN taking a new mag, reloading the weapon.
so idiotic this lochkoppel
I struggled with that myself aswell.
Did the same thing with stretching out the mag pouches, but swapping mags i used the ,,L-technique".
Hard to describe but its what you see with people using the AR-15 when they change mags
@icorfieldtac L technique is better but still I had this "I will fumble this when I need it" so I don't train it.
You know "train like you fight, fight like you train". So I either dropped the mag and replaced it or pulled it out to put it in the drop pouch and then reloaded. I was fairly fast with this too and since I wasn't commando but only a gebirgsjäger the milliseconds difference wouldn't matter too much
This reminds of that one time we visited the Gebirgsjäger for Mountain Warfare training when we were in the middle of climbing the Hochstaufen and the Heeresbergführer told us: ,,While climbing, what do you do, when you get in contact?"
We were all like ,,One team rappels down and the other team fires?"
Didn't even finish the sentence and said ,,YOU FUCKING DIE, THATS WHAT YOU DO"
