    I just smile and say thank you. I also like to play walking the dock and try to find the worse tied dock lines. Always good for a smile.

    Thanks for clarifying the two different coiling methods. Also the reminder to take advantage of a learning opportunity instead of getting your knickers in a twist.

      The best thing I've ever done in my life was consciously unknot my knickers. It has served me very well.

    This was a great video! I liked the way you addressed how many ways and options there are out there while providing some helpful information. Thanks for another entertaining and educational video.

    I've been doing figure 8s with the garden hose for many years. I've also been sailing for a long time & just recently learned about coiling line with figure 8's. There's always more to learn.

      The learning never stops!!! AAAAAAAAAH!!!! Nice work on the hose; people forget those things have a shape they want to maintain.

    I love the faces of people who crew on our boat when they ask in a timid tone, "so, ummm, how do you like this coiled?", and my answer is, "I don't care: do it however you think is best!". 1) they seem to always want to come back and come sailing with us again, 2) they get SO excited to help put the boat away... it's like they've met their first supportive, loving parent. 3) sometimes people do some pretty cool things that we didn't know about until this person 'did what they thought was best'!
    It's just odd to go racing, putting your boat in greater risk than usual of all sorts of breakages, and then the thing you're worried about at the end of the day is how they coiled the f-ing line, or the knot they used to tie the bumper on?! WTF, over?!

    For years I was dosing it your way, the one you did with the blue line. I learned that at a young age. Just like hanging coiled line on a cleat. But in the marina noweadays, every body is doing something else

    You are correct in that there’s more than one right way to do most things on a boat. I learned on 3 strand so I still coil braided line wrong sometimes. Add to this, I’m left-handed so when I coil line and especially tie knots…..let’s just say they don’t always come out right. Unlike you, I’m not going to video myself thus there’s no evidence of my mishaps. And yes, your nails were #10. Great choice of color, though you could go red nails left hand and green nails right hand for future videos. That would be very “naughtycal.”

      Gotta love the lefties! You always make the knot teaching part tricky.
      And I'm gonna go buy some green polish. So fun!

    Great video! I felt those who coiled line like this were so sophisticated! I’m still working on it. I learned a hard lesson on my boat a couple of months ago. Uncoil all your sheets before you leave the dock. An experienced sailor was with me on a sail and tightly coiled the main sheet. BF and I set out on a unexpectedly windy day only to hoist the main and discover we could not uncoil the main sheet quickly enough to let out the main … needless to say.. it was a wild ride until we got it untied.
    Can you please review different ways to tie a bowline and the different uses? The bridle on the sunfish I was sailing last week snapped mid sail and I had to rig a new one from scrap line. Of course that was the one day the coach boat was late heading out so I was sitting there without support. The other girls had no idea I needed assistance. Thank God I had been practicing different ways to tie a bowline. Super handy knot to know to save your a** in a squirly situation.

      Emergency knot tying is the stuff of nightmares! Hmm... bowlines are my favorite. I'm always down to improve upon all the slightly boring how-to-tie videos out there.

    Another way to do it is to scream at the pair of deck seamen in the unventilated mooring line locker while they are boxing 8 st[r]and plait. You should try that one, it's cathartic.

    I started watching you after i saw you in Waynes vid.
    I got to say i live your content, humors really in point !
    I wanted to ask you about coiling - i discussed with some skippers they like to use alpine coiling - as they claim its more resistant to twisting and random knotting/tightening in the locker.
    Could i ask what are your thoughts ?

    • @CaptainBoomies
      @CaptainBoomies  Год назад

      If alpine coiling is what I think it is, it's fine, but boat dock lines can be pretty wet and gross so I don't want them hanging from my body ....I wear a lot of white outfits on boats.

    • @KamilGuzdek
      @KamilGuzdek Год назад

      I could see how that got - i actually thought of coiling it in hand, not on your neck.
      So an arm-span coil in front of your palm, and another at the end of your palm, and than lock it.
      like so ruclips.net/video/VufdLIrHKlc/видео.htmlsi=SssvAaUz9ZrH4YFl&t=307

    Wait, you're not supposed to wrap it around your arm as quickly as you can then close your eyes and fire it into a locker? Have I been doing it wrong? Surely knot.
