Kayaking is a water sport, we all get wet. I use a Sit On the Top kayak, so always wet. Especially in choppy water or across the wave. Even in dragon boat, when we go fast...water. Cheers
PS if I ever get to Amsterdam maybe a guided tour on the canals

I know that feeling. There is literally no reason to be afraid of flipping. The worst thing that can happen to you, is getting wet and that's it! I'll recommend taking a quick dive in the water before attempting to kajak or at least to do the T-Roll.

Agreed! Taking a swim before you get in tends to help 💪

A local pond had a 'Try Kayak' event last year.
I was excited to try it, but was not dressed for the potential of getting wet. I was wearing a gray tee shirt, long blue jeans, white socks and low cut Jordan 1's (which I left on cuz what's the chance my shoes will get wet)??
I got in the kayak and was doing well!! The wave action was a little choppy and I thought I was going to tip over a few times, but I didn't!
I was still in the deep water and was then making a turn in the water to head back to shore.
Just as I made the turn, this guy on the kayak was coming toward mrle at great speed and made no effort to stop. His kayak hit mine in the 'sweet spot' and I tipped over into the water! I climbed out, the water was up to my chest... He's like 'Sorry, dude! You're really soaked now'. Well, yeah!! As I tried to climb back in, he noticed I had jeans and shoes on and was like 'Damn you wearing all your clothes! Sorry, man.'
I got back in the kayak and paddled back to shore. I wan't the only one wet, but I had the most clothes on. My jeans were waterlogged and my shoes were squishy and oozing out water.
You really can get wet kayaking, so please dress appropriately! I was at least glad I left my phone in the car, 'just in case'..

Heh, as a kid during summer vacation, I'd go to the pool in the morning (a quick bicycle ride and free entrance away) and wouldn't get out until I was almost too late for dinner. I used to *live* in water before I had all these boring adult responsibilities.
Disabilities and traumas not withstanding, I find it hard to grasp any native Dutch person who doesn't like water. Like, it's all around us and most of the time even the air is water too. Your only choice *is* to like it. Plus during my time school swimming was still a thing. I got my A and B through it and later got my C and Snorkeling 1, 2, and 3. I'd almost consider it unpatriotic (in a tongue and cheek kinda way :P ) if you don't know how to swim.
Also the people who want to go kayaking, but don't want to get wet are.... naive. Even on a normal paddle; expect to get wet.
Finally, that last impromptu rescue scenario looked like a lot of fun :D

Yeah right! We Dutch have made it our legacy to conquer the water 😋.. Although thinking about it we spend most our history to remove it... 😂😂

@@PaddlinDutchman I'd like to think the Netherlands was about to invade Doggerland and when they pulled an Atlantis on us, we just never forgave the water for this trechery xD
