I read “Servants : A Downstairs View of Twentieth-century Britain”. It reminded me of watching Downton Abbey. It was well constructed and kept my interest. I love historical stuff!!
I’ve been wanting to read The Outrun for around a year or so now but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Glad to hear that you found it to be a worthwhile read, adding to the amount of praise I’ve seen it receive already. As for I Contain Multitudes, I’ve only seen it on your channel and this review has completely sold it to me! I’m a science-y person anyway but your passion for this book has really fuelled the interest for me to pick it up.
Your reviews are excellent...I want to read both of these! (And nature books you have previously recommended) Thank you for introducing me to books I wouldn't normally choose and making them sound fascinating :)
The Outrun sounds so soulful, vulnerable, and I have been fascinated with Orkney for years, so I am very excited to read it (actually paused this video to put a hold on it at my library). I also adored I Contain Multitudes, and use some of the facts in it to freak out my coworkers.
Both of these books sound so good! I have a buddy read planned next month for I Contain Multitudes, and will probably be trying to get The Outrun from my library. Wonderful reviews!
Glad you enjoyed The Outrun! I read it in the summer before my trip to Orkney and it really got me excited to see the landscape. While I was there I bought another Orkney-based book from the book shop in Stromness. It's called Swimming with Seals by Victoria Whitworth. Hopefully it'll be just as good!
I have a review copy of I Contain Multitudes which is one of the reasons I haven't picked it up yet. I am so picky!!! I am worried something has changed? I don't know...but I want to read the finished copy.
"I Contain Multitudes" has long been on my tbr, so glad to be hearing a sweeping review fulfilling my highest hopes for this book. "The Outrun" also sounds very interesting even if contemporary memoirs aren't something I typically reach for. Are you planning on making reviews of the books you've read for other challenges?
I love this video. ‘The Outrun’ has been on my wish list for a while but I’m really enthused about ‘I Contain Multitudes’ as it sounds like a fascinating topic written well. Definitely a must buy for me.
Ouuu... I've not yet read the "home" book yet & this book is available in my library (I am getting all of my #NonFictionNovemver2017 books from there because it i closing down soon!!!) so I;m going give The Outrun a read.

Buddy reading I Contain Multitudes with Becky at Beck's Books in the first part of December. Even more excited about it now after hearing your review.

I enjoyed “I contain multitudes”. If you haven’t read “The Coming Plague” or The Great Inflenza” by Berry, I highly recommend them.
