    I can’t believe you only have 15k. You have so much content and goes in decent depth in each video. You go into so much detail over the course of all the videos around a certain subject that you cover all bases. I am huge into this subject of hardware, history and gaming. So I do know a lot of these subjects, I like to think so anyway lol. Every so often I actually learn something from your videos, so that tells me you do your research. You do hard work and great work. That’s why I’m surprised you aren’t making at least a 100k subs video at this point. Thank you for all you do, all your effort. In my opinion you have very few rivals in the caliber and diversity of content you create. Many may make videos on the same subject but your quality far surpasses 99 percent of them on RUclips. Again it’s just my opinion but I watch a lot of channels like yours and I can count on 1 hand how many do as good as job as you. Congrats and I am waiting for the day of the 1 million sub video because if anyone appreciated this subject as much as I do, when they find you, they will sub and flock to this channel.

  • @OM19_MO79
    @OM19_MO79 4 месяца назад +2

    As for what they should, or rather said could acquire, is really hard to tell. Of course, we can and must rule out the analogy created by this purchase: to acquire the competition from that time.
    RCA Studio II, I think it’s gone into PD, even the RCA brand nearly went into PD until some Chinese bought the abandoned brand, so there’s a no in that part and a big no on the library part. Seriously. Why would anyone want a bunch of generic primitive titles.
    The Channel F, I think some are owned by their authors, some by Zircon (apparently still exist), but, again, why to go to the hurdle of buying generic early games?, how much can the historical meaning be milked for profit?
    The Vectrex (which might include the Microvision) has a huge problem: everything has been released for non-profit use. I’m not an American lawyer, but I think violating that kind of licensing can lead to legal problems.
    With the Astrocade, we actually have all the problems of the above. Some games have been freed by their creators, like Jamie Fenton, others are still held by Bally and/or WB Games (whether they know they have them or not) and the rest are pretty much unlicensed blatant clones of games owned by multiple parties. So, no, too much trouble for Atari’s legal department. That includes the copyright nightmare that GORF is, so, STOP ASKING FOR IT!
    Then we get the competition for the computers, but this one is really easy. Cloanto, RetroGames and their partners own the Commodore stuff, although not the Commodore brand. That Subvert company owns most of the hardware and software from the British micros and the the TRS-80 is mostly translated Japanese software and multiple clones of other games, no value there.

    • @OM19_MO79
      @OM19_MO79 4 месяца назад +1

      I forgot!! There’s one more. That might have some value, not Intellivision-like value but something can come out of it even if it just for one game like they did with Stern, even though is a Pac-Man clone: The Arcadia 2000.
      The problem: What or who the hell was UA??

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair  4 месяца назад

      From my understanding they were a division of United Artists entertainment group who were looking to move into video games and also planned to publish games for the Atari 2600 (prototypes have been found) but they lost lots of money and the division was shut down.

    • @OM19_MO79
      @OM19_MO79 4 месяца назад

      @@TheLairdsLairThat’s what I thought too, but I’ve seen some videos in which they say they didn’t have nothing to do with United Artists. To make matters worse, the Pink Panther game was going to be released by Probe 2000, an American Philips subsidiary. So this one is a little murky, especially when you consider how it was sold differently in many markets, even Canada.
      It could be scattered or be one of the actual abandonware cases.

    The reason the companies you mention didn't release any new games like a new Rampage is down to lack of interest from the biggest market share. The only people interested would be those people who owned and played the original games so its not really a big audience and the less profitable. As for a new Lynx handheld i doubt that very much with it being a major flop and only having a limited amount of games most of which are terrible on the system. The same goes for the Jaguar yet another failed system.
    Atari should build on what they have and can acquire in the future the best option would be to follow Sega's business model which is making mobile games and games for the current systems building on their old successful IP's.

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair  4 месяца назад +1

      I don't think you have any idea just how well all the modern retro themed games are selling, it's why Sega for example have decided to put all their focus into that area and Atari have been doing the same for a while with the recharged series in particular. Released at the same time as the film a new Rampage game would have done really well.
      And you definitely didn't understand what I was saying about the Lynx. I was talking about a new mini console with loads of games built-in and a modern screen etc.
      And your last point, that's exactly what Atari have been doing for years! In fact Sega seem to be copying them after seeing Atari be successful with that and turn themselves around.

    • @4mused2Death
      @4mused2Death 4 месяца назад +1

      @@TheLairdsLair Modern retro games are selling well but not enough for WB and other holders of IP's to sell off the back of the movies. Younger gamers are just not that interested in old/retro games the main market for such stuff are middle aged ranged gamers which is a dwindling market.
      The Atari lynx idea whilst sounding great wouldn't be the best seller it just doesn't have the games library especially a very good one. A better idea would be to release the library on the switch, steam or the new Sony handheld because its less cost more profit.
      As for the Sega model im talking about Sega in recent years bringing out new games based on old IP's. Sega have been making profits in the billions compared to Atari's in the very low tens of millions. I would love to see Atari making that amount of profit producing brand new games of their old IP but i doubt it because Atari SA are just a holding company for the Atari brand and they need to keep the investors happy which means playing it safe. TBH i expect someone like Microsoft , Nintendo or Sony buying up the Atari brand to add to their portfolios very soon.
      Anyway im quite excited to see what comes next from Atari but i think new cheap plastic boxes with cheap fpga's are not the way to go and the better idea would be to produce games for the likes of the current consoles, switch and new Sony handheld.

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair  4 месяца назад

      Sorry, can't agree at all, the Lynx has an amazing library with only a handful of bad games.
      Also, you once again put down what Atari are doing and then say "As for the Sega model im talking about Sega in recent years bringing out new games based on old IP's.", which is exactly what Atari have been doing with the likes of the Yars Revenge sequel, Tempest 4000, Sprint Neo, Lunar Lander Beyond etc.
      You could argue that Sega have more valuable I.P. but you can't argue they are doing something different to Atari because they have literally copied their current business model!

    • @4mused2Death
      @4mused2Death 4 месяца назад +1

      @@TheLairdsLair Sega have their own business model they have been at it since the OG XBOX and PS2 when the Atari brand was still dormant. Atari SA should forget about bringing out new consoles and just remake, refresh and make new games based on their old games. Sega learned that the hard way with the Saturn and DC but managed to pull themselves back out of the hole they dug for themselves and built on their success year after year.
      Im not putting Atari SA down at all. Im just saying they need to forget about producing cheap plastic consoles and stick to the game development side. Less outlay more profit.
