  • Is it possible to build a regenerative food system within the capitalist system, or is it necessary to move beyond capitalism? The solidarity economy is a post-capitalist global movement that centers the welfare of people and ecosystems in our economy and culture. Growing out of social movements in Latin America and rooted in values of solidarity, democracy, equity, sustainability, and pluralism, it embraces the rights of Mother Earth and has a symbiotic relationship with regenerative agriculture. Though a relatively new framework, its ‘practices’ are both old and new, mainstream and alternative; there is a huge foundation upon which to build. This interactive workshop will include small group exploration of concrete solidarity economy practices that exist all around us, and discuss ways that people can get involved.
    Speaker:
Emily Kawano, US Solidarity Economy Network / Wellspring Cooperative, Wellspring Cooperative Co-director
