Firstly thank you for creating a safe space for parents who want to formula feed. This video was super helpful. I plan to formula feed and I'm due next month. Thank you for the great advice and positive energy!
I'm gonna try transitioning my baby to Bobbie formula. You should do some research on it! It's European based (made in the u.s.), organic, and doesn't have those nasty ingredients like palm oil or corn syrup. It does have safflower oil in it but it's almost impossible to find formula without at least one not so good ingredient.
Love this! I cried for a month after having my doughtier and not having any breast milk to feed her :). Formula saved her life and she is now 5 years old.
I also did not produce milk. I cried. I was a let down to my baby, I thought. He’s 100% on formula, had gain almost 8lbs in 8 weeks. He was premie. I’m now happy he’s getting what he needs. Mom guilt is real!
Thank you! I formula fed baby #1 from about 8 weeks on, and it was a constant form of stress - I hand washed everything, sterilized everything (water, bottles, etc.), I stressed about shaking vs. swishing, and the brand of formula I was using... it was less stressful than breastfeeding but still a LOT of work, a lot of unnecessary stress. Baby #2 is due at the end of September and I'm already planning to be waaaay more chill about it all. I'm also planning to skip breastfeeding because my mental health suffered too greatly the first time. And my little guy is amazing and healthy and clearly had no adverse reaction to being formula fed ;)
Thank you so much for this video. Same here with the first one i went through immense amount of guilt and stress of really suffering the breastfeeding experience, I was driven to the point of being terrified of putting a baby on the breast. Formula fed him from 6 weeks, never sterilised a thing, mixed room temp regular water, shaked on the go same like you do. Shoutout to all mums out there: baby stuffs (sterilizers, bottle warmers etc) are huge business and market would definitely promote all those items as if you baby can't survive without it. Its fine to shake, to not warm it up to perfect temp, not to sterilize everything with obsession. Now i am expecting a baby no 2, and the only change this time around - i have invested in baby brezza for the sole reason of night feedings. It will stay next to the bed and I am looking forward to those bottles to get ready with 1 button click. ))
I read that article right after I gave birth to my first son and was really struggling with breastfeeding. Your article along with my husband’s encouragement gave me the confidence to go ahead and stop breastfeeding! Best decision we ever made. I actually started enjoying just being a mom and spending time with my son. It was fantastic. I formula fed my second son from 8 weeks on even though breastfeeding was going well. I just didn’t want to do it anymore. Our sons are 14 months apart and it was just easier for my husband and I to be able to tag team everything, including feedings. I just had my daughter 4 weeks ago and breastfeeding is going well again but I’m not sure how long/if I will continue. I already kind of miss formula feeding. There’s some guilt I have about that but I just like it! I like knowing how much the baby gets and I like my husband to be able to enjoy feeding as well. Sue me 😅
I personally do want to breastfeed but I am so happy to see someone who so happily and is encouraging those who want to formula feed. I have seen so much mom shaming over formula feeding and it's just so unnecessary. Whatever works for you, your baby, and your family is the best choice!
This video is amazing. I’m planning on pumping colostrum just in the hospital and then EFF. I’m appalled at the anti formula feeders saying you’re “abusing your child” if you feed formula. It seems like most thing mom doesn’t matter and she should be miserable. This helped so much, I can’t thank you enough! Im tired of the guilt.
Very helpful, easy to follow suggestions. I really like the chill attitude you have about feeding. Just don't panic about everything little thing like a lot of people out there do about feeding their babies. Coming from a father of newborn! Thank you!
Great video. I’m a bio mom to 5 all of which I breastfed, and just started fostering a newborn a few months ago. I felt like a new mom again! Had no clue about formula feeding. I joked I needed a formula consultant! I finally figured it out, but this video is so well done and gave me tips as well.
Thanks for the video! I’m a first time mom. After c section I didn’t get milk for 3 days and the baby was on formula. Afterwards baby was unable to latch and the milk was low. It has been three months and my boy is formula fed. MIL and their family are not happy but I thank God that my baby is fine 🙏🏻
Congratulations on the sweet baby! Sounds like you are doing great. Family will come around. In the scheme of raising a child, this part is a very short blip. Hang in there!
Great video. I used to watch lots videos about how it’s important to breastfeed and it’s the best, and preparing myself for formula feeding I felt guilty. And it’s so good to have such videos exclusively for those who are formula feeding without any judgement. Information was very helpful!
Awn thank you for sharing this! & love all the honest disclaimer. This "judgement" on breastfeeding is really a big deal in America haha. People really irrationally obsess over it & then feed their kids chicken nuggets & hand them a iPad at age of 2. Loved your video! Thank you
Also, as you mentioned in your article, formula feeding allows for feeding by and entire days and sleepovers with grandparents. My seven week old baby can certainly attest to this! Strengthening relationships with all his family members.
I absolutely love this! With my son who is now almost 4 I had absolutely NO milk supply I would pump and power pump all day and be lucky if I got an oz so I went to formula pretty much right away... As said on here I used tap water. My provider said as long as it's not well water it's fine. I see all these fancy machines for hot water and things and I'm like if you have city water just use it... perfect temp every time too. I also only did the boiling sterilize the first time and after put them in the dishwasher which as sterilize on it. I enjoyed formula feeding because anyone could do it. It was fairly easy (don't need the bottle warmer, etc) and I knew how much he needed. I'm thinking of going straight to formula if we have another. My sister and I were both formula fed.
You are genuinely a hero for posting this and your Medium article. Thank you for the real, practical stress-free information. It is hard to find this type of info for formula. After a very tough breastfeeding experience with baby #1, your article and references helped me to decide to formula feed with #2 from the get-go, and I am truly so happy. It was the right choice for us as a whole family. My physical and mental health are way better and big brother loves to help feed the baby!
Thank you so much for your video! I'm going to read your article. This is my second time watching this to easy my depression and anxiety rightnow. I did breastmilk and formula since birth and after 1 month and the stress and possible health stuff I decided to do just formula and been feeling alot of guilt but seeing videos like this really helps me and calm me down thank you
I came here from the article that you wrote back in 2018 and im so appreciative that you wrote it and made this video. You have eased all of my anxiety and I feel so much more confident in my decision to formula feed. Thank you!!
I was lucky to find that my hospital did not push breastfeeding. When I told my doctors that I wanted to formula feed, they were supportive. It doesn’t need to be a battle.
@J H literally me, i wanted to breast feed/ pump so bad but i had too many complications and in the hospital i was just too tired to even care at that point, nurses and lactation consultant’s literally are like pushing pushing, its like no give me that formula i can’t do it lol
@tootynuggets I witnessed a case where the mother was told to never use a bottle with her newborn and she didn't make enough milk so her baby was very weak to the point he would fall asleep everytime she nursed him right away and she would thought he was full already. Since newborns sleep a lot she never noticed that her baby was sleeping all the time due to weakness. He almost died, thank God a nurse went to her house and noticed he was highly dehydrated and gave him a bottle right away herself. In my country mothers are told to never formula feed our babies but nobody teaches us the basics of breastfeeding or tells us about the signs of dehydration in babies.
@tootynuggetsi know this is from a year ago but i recently had a baby and the lactation lady literally told us if we use formula our baby can die. she literally told my husband and i that. so we used the formula they gave us in the hospital and even bought more because we where scared or use the dry formula but we have been using dry formula for almost a week now and our baby girl is perfectly fine. they really made me feel horrible because she was having trouble
Omg thank you for this video and for just saying what you said because I was being shamed for formula feeding instead of breast feeding. You made me feel so much better about myself.
I super love this video! Answered so many questions I’ve had without any shame or guilt and I took so many notes! Adding some of your suggestions to my registry. Thank you so much for this calming and informative video.
I got here by accident but I’m a first time mom though 😅. Anyways…what a great video! I had no idea I needed to watch this. Thank you so much for not making me feel like a “bad” mom or something like that. This video gave me the confidence I really needed regarding feeding my baby with formula.
Decided to switch from breast feeding to formula and I really really appreciate this video and the positive energy 💞 I was feeling all sorts of guilty and you’ve brought me a lot of reassurance
Thank you so much for this! We just had our 6th baby, and we are unable to breastfeed. I had severe preeclampsia, and my milk never really came in. Pumping isn’t working, and I’m losing my mind with worry. I’ve never formula fed a baby, but I’m thinking it will greatly improve my stress and mental health. I want to actually enjoy my baby!
This video is great! I have a 4 month old and my breast milk supply started to go few weeks ago. Now I only get about 2 oz of milk a day. I felt so guilty when I had to start using formula and people told me of all the things I did wrong and why my supple dropped. What changed my whole perspective was when my mom told me I was formula fed because the same thing happened to her. I was a healthy kid growing up. I’m finally feeling good about it he’s been on formula for about three weeks. Thank you for this video it just confirmed the way I now feel about it.
So thrilled to have found this video. My nipples are raw and aching and my baby never gets enough from the boob. Cried so hard yesterday feeling like a failure. Woke up today saying I’m gonna figure out this formula thing and move on! Thank you 🙏 - from the Catskills
Omg thank you soooo much for this video… I’m a new parent…. I’m already an anxious person and all of this is new to me and I see so many exaggerated information about it even my nurses at delivery were soo exaggerated about it…. I really needed your video thank you so much
I was so stressed once reading instructions on formula but this makes me feel so much better I couldn't understand why people would put that much stress on them selves on-top of regular parent life! Baby needs to eat and eat fast and I felt aweful how long sterilization was taking and cooling of the water figured there had to be a better way thank you xo
I always made it in individual bottles because it’s so easy to just shake them up, and then I didn’t have to worry about refrigerating and reheating to the right temperature. Batches were only when required for full days of daycare, and I used the mixing pitcher for that, and they reheated at school.
First time mom here. Switching from frozen pumped BM to formula and this video helped me so much! Thank you for your advice and for giving me permission to let go of anxiety.
I loved this video SO MUCH. I'm pregnant with #6. Breastfed my first 4 because I felt pressured. 5th baby I formula fed. Best decision ever. Now I'm just waiting to exclusively formula feed #6 😁
Thank you so much for your article and this video. I am formula feeding my first baby and you articulated some of the reasons why, particularly wanting to have a true equal partnership with my spouse. Thanks again.
I gave up on breastfeeding right before my son turned a month old his dad went back to work I couldn’t do it by myself since I was mainly pumping & he wouldn’t latch I started to formula feed & I didn’t realize I didn’t know anything about that either 😩 thank you for this video! Wish I would have seen it sooner
In Spain and Italy the tap water has too many mineral salts to be healthy for a baby, that's why you can buy special baby water in mineral water bottles with a baby's face on.
This was so helpful! If you need to mix ahead and refrigerate the formula, what’s the best way to warm up the bottle? Also, I’ve found it almost impossible to locate info on breast care after birth and how to help stop milk production from the start. Every article assumes that you’ve already started breast feeding and are weaning. If you have any tips or a guide that specifically covers this topic I’d be so appreciative. Thx!!
Thanks for watching, so glad you found it helpful. I never mixed ahead...you can have the water measured out, and just put in the powder when you are ready to shake it up and serve. I talk about production a little in my Medium post (link in the bio for this video), but the short answer is that you just wait it out and truly do nothing but maybe ice them. It's miserable for a couple of days, and then it's over. I took Sudafed regularly for those few days, but I'm not convinced it did much. Good luck!
Hi! I know this is coming late, but I had to mix ahead for my baby’s daycare. They warm bottles in a low temp crockpot. At home we don’t often mix ahead, but we warm bottles in a Phillips warmer when we do (keep an eye on time to get ahead of when baby will need it by 10 min. ideally). Hope that helps.
Thank you for this ❤❤ I breastfed my first 3 babies, and now due to developmental complications including a cleft palate, we will have to formula feed one twin and breastfeed the other. I really appreciate your no fear take on this, because I definitely felt a lot of fear the first few days after finally taking him home from the hospital. We're just starting to get the hang of formula feeding and will soon need to be traveling with formula.
Thank you so much !!!!! Here in New Zealand the amount of shame/fear put on to formula feeding mums is astronomical. I had my son 5 years ago & due to sexual trauma I didn’t breast feed. I was absolutely annihilated by the midwives, nurses & drs in hospital & spent over a year thinking I was somehow killing my son. I would spend thousands on new bottles, different formulas etc trying to do my best & I didn’t sleep for the first year bc I was paranoid. I am almost due my second and final child & will again be formula feeding. I have anxiety abt the staff in hospital coming for me again & acting like I love my child less bc I’m formula feeding but am determined to be more carefree. I love my kids so much. Your video was amazing thank you SO much. You are confident, happy & healthy & it shines through xx
You’re so welcome! I talked to my doctors throughout my pregnancy about my decision to formula feed, and request to be supported in this choice. If anyone gives you a hard time, you can kindly ask them to respect your decision and stop talking about breastfeeding. You’ve got this, and there’s nothing wrong with choosing to formula feed, as you know. ❤️ Whether you feel carefree about it or not, it’s possible to state what you need, especially after practicing with friends and family.
Awesome video. Although warm water out of the tap is more likely to carry sediment from the piping. I would never recommend to drink warm/hot water from the tap.
Love the video, very comprehensive. In NYS you can get a kit from the State to test your water. If you are not sure if your water is safe, that might give you piece of mind.
Thanks for watching. I had the kit delivered to our new apartment on the day we moved in, and it's still sitting unopened on top of the microwave. Oops! :)
For any new moms who are facing judgment … most moms after 3 months hardly sterilize … don’t worrry if you buy nursing water or boil your own it’s all the same and safe … and room temp from the early stage saves time and sanity and is TOTALLY FINE
Mums stop letting hospitals and people push you to feel bad, your baby will love the same breast fed or formula fed, because your baby need healthy mum mentality and physically.
Half way through but this is already helping me so much. I’m finishing up my 5th year of breastfeeding (three kids) and decided to formula feed #4 I feel like there’s almost no information for me on formula feeding and I’m so excited to have found some :) thank you!
I always used tap water with my baby’s formula she is fine I also drink it too and I probably only sterilised the bottles first day never did it again because when I wash them I always use hot water with Dawn
I think the shaking comes from the myth that is related to using breastmilk in bottles. Sometimes, the milk and fat in breastmilk will separate when it's been sitting in the fridge for a while or has been defrosted from the freezer so there's this myth that you have to gently swirl it to mix the fat back in to avoid breaking down the nutrient's, but I have asked every OBGYN that I have had during my pregnancy and they all say that's ridiculous and to just shake it to mix it. People are probably translating it over to formula as well.
Breastfeeding is preferable but fed is best. If you have breastfeeding issues don't worry just take a deep breath and remember it's okay to give baby formula. I remember when I had my first born my breast milk wouldn't flow quite well. I was so depressed about it and I would cry about it sometimes. I so badly wanted to breastfeed my little one. It took me a while to just accept that it's okay to give formula. But I finally got around it. Now if I ever have breastfeeding issues again and find myself needing to formula feed I know to just take a deep breath and know it's okay to formula feed. As long as baby is healthy that's all that matters.
It’s ok even if someone isn’t having issues, and my goal is for there to be no guilt about it at all. Breastfeeding is not preferable to everyone and that’s truly ok.
I came here after reading your article. Thank you. I tried breastfeeding my first two with little success due to low milk supply. I felt guilty about not being able too. My third is due soon and making the decision to formula feed after birth.
I just come a across your video it's helped me a lot I'm a first-time mom and I'm kind of like what to do what not to do what to buy and what not to buy and stuff so you helped thank you.
This makes me cringe as a UK parent. UK guidelines say to steralise bottles every time and boil the water fresh (only once, not re boiled) for bottles one at a time as you go. Also, personally dishwashing bottles grosses me out majorly. I was hoping to breastfeed exclusively but have had to introduce some formula.
I just got powdered formula and i was just freaking out because it seemed like so much work having to boil the water make sure everything is ready to go, i literally just used bottled water no boiling and she is currently milk drunk and content as can be!!! , my confidence is so much higher now thank you💜
I agree with most of the things but instructions on formula clearly say : boil too 100. Wait to cool down to 70 and then mix. There are reason for it. Giving lukewarm tap water its just messed up. And i am not being judgemental
You can research this more to determine what works for you. My decision was not to do this. Some info, but of course do your own research and talk to your doctor-fedisbest.org/2021/04/do-parents-need-to-boil-water-for-powdered-infant-formula-preparation-in-the-united-states/
Hey @xoxocooks thank you for providing your sources. I also came into the comments curious about this point as I'd only ever heard the WHO recommendations with formula feeding. This article was really interesting to read before I make decisions on how I do things with my baby. Appreciate the calmness in your approach even if we end up doing things differently. ❤
At my pre op (elective c-sec) it was noted on the files that I wanted to breastfeed and formula feed straight away because I wanted my little one to get the colostrum but also actually have a proper meal (family history of not being able produce enough milk which I proved by pumping only 1.5 ounces in 2 and a half hours after 24 hours of no breastfeeding) but no, on my first night the ‘breast is best’ midwife wouldn’t get me formula and told me not to ask my mum to bring in formula from home because ‘there are no facilities for you to make the formula’ which was a lie, the day midwife was not happy when I eventually told her but the problem is the night midwife was the head midwife elective for that week Now I have to breastfeed my baby for 4 hours a night just to get her to settle down followed by at least 2 ounces of formula milk so I can get any sleep or else she’ll want an 8 hour breastfeed session As long as baby is being fed then mind your own business 💅🏻
Firstly thank you for creating a safe space for parents who want to formula feed. This video was super helpful. I plan to formula feed and I'm due next month. Thank you for the great advice and positive energy!

Thank you. 🥰
Congrats. It sounds like you have enough to worry about with six; feeding doesn’t need to be a worry. Enjoy those sweet baby snuggles.
You’ve got this. No guilt needed. Enjoy that sweet baby angel!
This video really made me feel less guilty as a first time momma that obsesses over things lol
You’ve got this. No guilt needed. This is just the beginning of a long journey. ❤️
So thrilled to have found this video. My nipples are raw and aching and my baby never gets enough from the boob. Cried so hard yesterday feeling like a failure. Woke up today saying I’m gonna figure out this formula thing and move on! Thank you 🙏 - from the Catskills

I’m happy it helps. You are enough! Enjoy that sweet baby as much as you can while they are tiny. None of this is forever. Keep going. ❤️❤️
Your video made me feel so good about my choice I'm formula feeding, your one video took so much guilt away. Tha k you so much ❤
Good luck! No guilt needed.

Omg thank you soooo much for this video… I’m a new parent…. I’m already an anxious person and all of this is new to me and I see so many exaggerated information about it even my nurses at delivery were soo exaggerated about it…. I really needed your video thank you so much
Congrats on your sweet baby! Hang in there. ✨
Loved this video, thank you so much!
What a great video. Love your chill vibe, and straight to the basics. Thank you for putting this out there!
Good luck!
Great video as a first time mom you had some good tips!, made me feel relaxed watching this video.
This is the best video I have come across! Thank you for putting my mind at ease!! Do you make the formula in batches?
I always made it in individual bottles because it’s so easy to just shake them up, and then I didn’t have to worry about refrigerating and reheating to the right temperature. Batches were only when required for full days of daycare, and I used the mixing pitcher for that, and they reheated at school.
First time mom here. Switching from frozen pumped BM to formula and this video helped me so much! Thank you for your advice and for giving me permission to let go of anxiety.
You’re welcome! Don’t sweat it. I’m sure you’re doing great. ❤️💪
I just saw this video, just now ran out of my donor milk and switching to bubs for my 4 m/o and I appreciate you. Thank you for making this!
Good luck! Congrats on the sweet new baby!
I loved this video SO MUCH. I'm pregnant with #6. Breastfed my first 4 because I felt pressured. 5th baby I formula fed. Best decision ever. Now I'm just waiting to exclusively formula feed #6 😁
Woohoo! Good luck!
Thank you so much for your article and this video. I am formula feeding my first baby and you articulated some of the reasons why, particularly wanting to have a true equal partnership with my spouse. Thanks again.
You’re welcome! Congrats on your baby!
I gave up on breastfeeding right before my son turned a month old his dad went back to work I couldn’t do it by myself since I was mainly pumping & he wouldn’t latch
I started to formula feed & I didn’t realize I didn’t know anything about that either 😩 thank you for this video! Wish I would have seen it sooner

In Spain and Italy the tap water has too many mineral salts to be healthy for a baby, that's why you can buy special baby water in mineral water bottles with a baby's face on.
If my grand baby is fed with Enfamil I’m for it because he’s being fed just like the rest of my children. Love this video. Thank you!🙏🏻💙💙💙
Peace of mind finally
Thanks alot for this video !!
Amen to all of this! I recommend Dr. Browns to ALL my friends! They really do work well for babies with colic, reflux and every baby in between.
Good luck!
@@Xoxocooks thank you for your reply! I’m so glad I found your supportive voice out here promoting formula fed from birth. I feel better prepared.
I was super anxious about this 1 hour mark for formula feeds si I made the rounds on utube. Thanks
You’re doing just fine. 🌟
Thank you for this ❤❤
I breastfed my first 3 babies, and now due to developmental complications including a cleft palate, we will have to formula feed one twin and breastfeed the other.

I love your content 🥺 please upload more
Awesome video. Although warm water out of the tap is more likely to carry sediment from the piping. I would never recommend to drink warm/hot water from the tap.
I was told to use hot water first to kill the bacteria etc is it not true
The water I use is tap that I filter ONLY because the water where I live smells too much like bleach unless filtered. Baby seems fine with it.
Half way through but this is already helping me so much. I’m finishing up my 5th year of breastfeeding (three kids) and decided to formula feed #4 I feel like there’s almost no information for me on formula feeding and I’m so excited to have found some :) thank you!
I’m so happy you found this helpful. Sounds like you are a super mom! You’ve got this. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience !! I bet a lot mom will need this 😍😍😍
Thanks for watching. 🥰
I think you’re funny! I enjoyed this video!
Thank you so much it's hurt to see my new born not getting enough milk.
Very informative and helpful to me. Thank you for posting this video.
You’re welcome. ❤️
Love this. Im due in November and I have chosen to formula feed.
❤❤❤❤
I always used tap water with my baby’s formula she is fine I also drink it too and I probably only sterilised the bottles first day never did it again because when I wash them I always use hot water with Dawn
Thank you. Thus makes me feel better about considering switching
Good luck. No regrets here whatsoever.
❤
Thanks for this video
Thank you for this Video...I have to formula feeding due to meds! I will read your Blog!
Thank you so much for this video! 🤍🤍🤍
The NHS recommends that you first of all kill the bacteria in the formula with 70° water
Hi my husband and every one who used to make me really traumatic.after u videos I am happy at least some one is there to support
I’m sorry that others made you feel bad. You can do it. ❤️
I came here after reading your article. Thank you. I tried breastfeeding my first two with little success due to low milk supply. I felt guilty about not being able too. My third is due soon and making the decision to formula feed after birth.

One tip: use formula pitcher to premake formula in advance.
I just come a across your video it's helped me a lot I'm a first-time mom and I'm kind of like what to do what not to do what to buy and what not to buy and stuff so you helped thank you.

Super helpful video with great tips! 😊 🥰

Thank you so much! This info is hard to find! 😊
You’re welcome!
Good info!
I love this!
Thanks always for your encouragement, Leo!
LOVED your video 🥰
Thanks, Karen!
Is warming the milk no longer a thing
Thanks for the tips on the two books. I read them both and they were great! Due this month and plan to formula feed by choice :)
Good luck!! ❤️
Thank you for this video. 😭😭
Big help as a newly mom 😭
You’re welcome! Good luck!
I just got powdered formula and i was just freaking out because it seemed like so much work having to boil the water make sure everything is ready to go, i literally just used bottled water no boiling and she is currently milk drunk and content as can be!!! , my confidence is so much higher now thank you💜
Woo hoo! Totally doable.
ruclips.net/video/7S6NSpwEcJE/видео.html
Thank YOU!!
At my pre op (elective c-sec) it was noted on the files that I wanted to breastfeed and formula feed straight away because I wanted my little one to get the colostrum but also actually have a proper meal (family history of not being able produce enough milk which I proved by pumping only 1.5 ounces in 2 and a half hours after 24 hours of no breastfeeding) but no, on my first night the ‘breast is best’ midwife wouldn’t get me formula and told me not to ask my mum to bring in formula from home because ‘there are no facilities for you to make the formula’ which was a lie, the day midwife was not happy when I eventually told her but the problem is the night midwife was the head midwife elective for that week
Now I have to breastfeed my baby for 4 hours a night just to get her to settle down followed by at least 2 ounces of formula milk so I can get any sleep or else she’ll want an 8 hour breastfeed session
As long as baby is being fed then mind your own business 💅🏻
I love your vibes
