FACT: The original plan on "Boardwalk Empire" was to do much more with Pitt's character in further seasons - but his behavior on set was SO terrible - constantly being late, not knowing his lines and being a jerk to everybody, that they killed his character off at the end of the second season. Ever since, he's barely had any work because he got a reputation for treating everyone like garbage. Which is a shame, as he's a good actor - but when you act like a spoiled @sshole on set, nobody wants to work with you.
That information came from ONE source, his coworkers have refuted this, other people who know him have refuted it. What everybody else says about him is that he's incredibly sweet and very shy. He fired his agent, and suddenly this unsubstantiated rumor mysteriously swirled, and everyone just believed it.🙄 Literally NO one else has ever said that, everyone else has said he's a sweetheart. Funny how he fired his agent, and suddenly this rumor about how unhireable he is started. Isn't that odd?

Like you mentioned, one "unknown" source was behind all these allegations and countless articles were written consequently. Its so unfortunately because people loved the character of Jimmy Darmody so much that most looked up the reason he was killed off. Then this bullshit comes up and people start hating on him.
He's a really talented actor. I love his movies, especially in I Origins. I don't knoa much about him, I just like to perceive him from his artworks. That is what I really know and I trust my own judgement about him
