  • Hoam Museum of Art presents Jaewon Kang’s project exhibition 𝘌𝘹𝘰7. It is the first exhibition to be held at the former teahouse nestled in the traditional Korean garden Heewon, after a year-long renovation of the museum. Kang’s smooth forms rendered with a 3D modeling program propose an imagination of the future of the sculpture, while inferring a relationship with the surrounding nature.
In this exhibition Kang presents a single form named 𝘌𝘹𝘰7 in different sizes and materials. Although based on the same form, each work indicates different states of 𝘌𝘹𝘰7. The large work in the middle of the room is an inflatable, whose right corner appears to cut through the ceiling. On each side of the large sculpture is a smaller 𝘌𝘹𝘰7 form constructed using a 3D printer.
The shiny, silver surface of the inflatable resembles solid metal, but it is lightweight and temporary like a balloon. The artificial form and reflective material of 𝘌𝘹𝘰7 both contrast and blend in with the surrounding nature, depending on one’s perspective. Such ambivalent relationship to nature continues in the videos of 𝘌𝘹𝘰7 in the inner gallery.
