I bought this guitar for my son as his first quality guitar when he was 14. He kept it,added to it with many more great guitars, and played it for many years. I lost my son 2 years ago so now my grand daughter has it and does him proud by the way she can play it
This thing is like a Tuxedo with 6 strings. Classy, and perfect for almost any occasion.

We probably had one of these in my brother's music store, Norton Music, Tallahassee, Florida on Jackson Bluff Road. In fact, we had a wall full of early '70s Gibsons, including a Johnny Smith and an ES-355 which I am blessed to still have to this day ...

The black customs with the gold hardware just hit differently!
Was fortunate to find a 2017 one of these marked 'DEMO' in gloss ebony right from the factory. Absolute killer guitar and waaay more than just a pretty face!

I also have a 73 custom, fretless wonder. Well played, and yet original frets are mint.
I had a '72 and it was a monster! I weighed 133 lbs and it weighed almost as much as me!

There is nothing like a Michael Lemmo review. Spectacular Gibson and played like Randy Rhoads had it in his hands! You always leave us drooling for the guitar of the day. If I had enough money I would buy you out and hire you to play them all day!
Have you ever heard the live version on Tribute? I'm not so sure if you think that sounded like Randy.

Not that I'm complaining. I do love the Fender amp you play through but.....how come you never play through the Marshall amps? Very bad ass Les Paul. I have a new Les Paul Classic in translucent cherry. I love it, too.
So true; marshall amps truely make these guitars alive !

I have a 1974 Les Paul Custom. I added a TP-6 tailpiece and drilled a Kahler nut in front of the nut. Am I going to hell? It still sounds awesome and doesn't go out of tune 🙌🏻

In 1984 I got a new Jackson Rhoads. Initially they only came in two models, a Student and a Custom. I didn't realize until much later that Charvel took inspiration from the LP Custom for their Custom. My Rhoads Custom is black, ebony fingerboard, mother of pearl inlays, neck/headstock binding and brass hardware. Some say the factory installed Kahler spoils it, but it was the 80s and a guitar made for Metal, so the floating trem was a must and restringing a Kahler never made me want to punch someone in the face.

I have one of these. Much wear& chequeing. You can see figure in the top by through waves in the paint. I bought it for $325 back around 1991.

Amazing classic rock sound
The only Gibson model I've ever had (and probably ever will have) is a reissue Les Paul Goldtop. It just as easily could have been one matching the description of this model.

I got a GLPC in the same year according to the serial number. Its just in a darkish cherry sun burst.

Seconds are guitars that are flawed from the factory, usually the flaw is in the finish but if its a relic how can you tell ?

if its a les paul you know its going 2 be led zeppelin. and or ozzy. fender perty much van Halen same o same o.
Why are we so crazy about old vintage guitars honestly they sound crap to today's standards. I have MIM charvel san dimas and sounds way better than this one and for fraction of the price.
It sounds awful. Especially on both pickups together.
If you want this EXACT instrument for cheap just buy an Epiphone Custom Pro lol
When I was about 13 my dad bought one of the Epiphones. I knew he could’ve afforded the Gibson, so I asked why he didn’t get one. He said it wasn’t worth the price difference. I’ve grown to agree with him.
I can't make my epi LP custom sound like that 😕
