Rick has released our 1950 Chris-Craft U22’s bottom, only to uncover what is perhaps the best-maintained bottom frame, including the intra-frame battens, her bilge stringers and on and on of any boat in our shop over the last 15 years.
That said, her framing is and will remain 0ne-hundred percent original. Yes, we will still scrub all soiling and grease build-up using Roll-Off, a boat cleaner that is especially designed for this purpose. Once crystal clean, her entire innards will receive three coats of Sandusky Paint Company Chris-Craft Mahogany Bilge Paint.
While Rick’s been stripping her bottom down to her framing, I have been fully enjoying stripping paint and varnish from her hullsides. Here is the how-to video: • 1950 22' Chris Craft U... .
I must say that her hullside planking is absolutely original and the mahogany originally chosen to build her in Algonac is simply stunning.
