I know this seems like an unpopular opinion but two of my favorite worlds are Rusty Bucket Bay and Grunty industries. I really enjoy the music of each world and aesthetic that comes along with them. They even inspired me to write a story closely based on them. Got to finally play Banjo Kazooie in full for the first time this year thanks to it coming to NSO and....it's easily become one of my favorite games of all time. I've played it like 4 times and desperately want to do a fifth but I'm trying to hold off so I don't burn out on it or something x3
I've only played the first game so if I had to choose the worst level....I'd probably go Click Clock Woods. I know most people say Rusty Bucket bay but....Rusty Bucket really just has one REALLY TERRIBLE room. Click Clock has FOUR level variations you all have to climb really high for and can easily fall from constantly.
For best?....that's hard for me and the first game. I might give it to Mumbo's mountain as I think it's right up there with Bob-bomb battlefield as a fantastic intro level. I could also give it to Freezey Peak, due to how amazingly it goes with its aesthetics with the winter/Christmas theme.

I'm actually impressed that your reasoning were really thought out and honestly pretty convincing. Most of the other top lists from the series I've seen aren't that great cause their reasonings were kinda petty for the most part but yours are well thought out. Honestly Click Click Wood is my favorite level because I played it when I was like 12 or 13 years old when the game came out so its probably mostly nostalgia but the season aspect really clicked with me. Will agree with the number 1. As a huge fan of snow and that aesthetic I really love how the level is designed. Really amazing that so many levels in the original game are so well done. 1. Click Clock Wood (I love that spiraling climb upwards, the music, and the seasonal storytelling)
    Bottom
3 Freeze Easy Peak (Those snow men and ice cubes are so frustrating, although i love the collectables along the giant snow mans scalf)
2 Isle O Hags (I wanted to enjoy it but it felt like so much wasted space and didnt do a good job of differentiating the worlds)
1 Cloud Cuccoo Land (It felt too out of place to me, It took a lot of the platforming joy away)

Nice list, I never really got around making a full list myself, so hey, might as well post what I pulled off myself in a few minutes.
I'll only put in BK and BT because I didn't play Grunty's Revenge and I don't feel comfortable comparing the N&B levels to the N64 ones as the gameplay is so different in that game. I also kinda skipped the hub worlds, but they both would be around the middle of the list. I actually like Grunty's Lair more than Isle O'Hags though I can't really tell you why. I think it's got to do with the creepy cave setting.

Great video, a lot of work went into it I am sure!
Not too surprised by most choices. Mad Monster Mansion is a gem of a level. I probably would have rated spiral mountain (BK) a lot higher just from pure nostalia. And Treasure Trove Cove certainly ranks higher for me than Freezeezy - simply because theres so much to explore and no annoying ice or cold, its a very pleasent level (with some neat secrets and areas to explore - I always like any level with a large upwards climb). But I think any level with a large amount of ice or poison liquids around will always frustrate me. It just 'gets in the way' and makes for stressful gaming. (altho the crocodile transformation in BG Swamp is one of my favourites of all the games, as the poison water doesnt hurt anymore and also very much because of the crunch-crunch-crunch bite it has XD). I knew Clankers Cavern would score low as well, even just watching some of that footage gives me PTSD, the stress of that level oml...

Cool video with some good points. Would be nice in future videos if you threw in a small sample of the levels music without talking overtop, especially when directly addressing the music of a level. There were a few times I either couldn't remember the music or in the case of Grunty Revenge, never played it.

I was surprised by Terrydactyl Land, but that's just my bias toward dinos talking, probably. Also, the music from Rusty Bucket Bay is some of my favorite from Banjo Kazooie. I like Bubblegloop Swamp, but it has one of the same problems that Rusty Bucket Bay has, the majority of the world is impossible to traverse in. I know it's meant to make the boots important, but it just gets tiring if you spend a lot of time there.

    • @tessaPMpro
      @tessaPMpro Год назад

Easy, beat her on my first try on every race and still never even lost to her because:
      1. I'm good at mashing
      2. You can pause during the race if your thumb gets tired from mashing for too long and continue whenever you're ready again, completely trivialising the entire thing.
The difficulty is massively overexaggerated, either most people are just terrible at mashing or they don't know that you can pause the game during the races, if you couldn't pause then it would be difficult and I could understand why so many people think it is so hard but the fact that you can pause just makes it free. There are far harder things in Banjo-Tooie like clinker's cavern and the ordinance storage which always take me at least a few tries to beat, especially clinker's cavern.

I think Click-Clock wood is considered to be ingenious more specifically because of the "time travel" aspect when switching between seasons to solve puzzles / complete quests.. With that in mind, and considering how it's all really tied together so well aesthetically (even brining back the Sir Slush snowmen from Freezeezy Peak), I would've ranked it a lot higher here than #21.
I'd also say that Witchyworld is overrated here. Among all Tooie levels, it's the one that feels the most lifeless and empty. All the Jiggy quests feel very disjointed and don't seem to come together cohesively. I had somewhat the same problem with Cloud Cuckooland, but I give that one more slack because the disjointedness was a design decision.

I HEAVILY disagree with your Grunty's Lair opinion, if only because I know what it's going for on multiple levels.
On one hand, it's just trying to subvert Peach's Castle in Mario 64. Peach's Castle was upbeat, a "good guy" zone, whereas Banjo takes that idea and says "no, it's the villain's house." Instead of tons of magical paintings available from the start, you have unfinished puzzles, which don't even lead to the level itself, they open a door elsewhere, possibly encouraging you as the player to FIND that level. It's a fun concept, although as a kid I always imagined it would be cooler of they swung open like doors to lead to the level itself.
The claustrophobic nature of Grunty's Lair always added to the mystery for me. You wouldn't go from sweeping corridor to sweeping corridor, a lot was separated by themed rooms (the best part of the whole level imo) and curving hallways that built suspense. A lot of those hallways would start out as normal Grunty areas while the music and aesthetic of the upcoming level would slowly fade in as you navigated them. It was rewarding and left kids at the edge of their seat, although I will admit a lot of the charm wears off with each playthrough and eventually you're just left with nostalgia.

You can't cheese Mr. Vile but you can easily cheese Canary Mary.

OK to be fair, I probably haven't touched a Banjo game since Nuts and Bolts release, so I may just have nostalgia talking. I also completely skipped Gruntys Revenge, so it wouldn't be fair to rank those levels. The best levels out of the N64 games I find were Freezezy Peak for Kazooie and Mayahem Temple for Tooie. The only level I liked out of nuts and bolts was Showdown Town, the Hub area, the rest I just couldn't jive with. The worst two of the N64 titles I find are Clankers Cavern for Kazooie and Cloud Cuckooland for Tooie. Let's just say the annoying bits sour those levels for me.

CCW's season mechanic is cool, but its pretty dumb that the transformation is only available in the spring..
