This happened with me during my ortho internship. I was wearing a tank top underneath my buttoned full sleeved apron due to extreme hot weather. unfortunately the tank top was of dark color and was slightly visible. The consultant commented on a very small spilled coffee spot on the apron and told me "you don't need to wear your apron, you can remove it" while leering at my chest. I was 23 years old, the consultant was 48 years old. the PGs sitting next to him laughed. I felt like I wasn't at a medical college but at a railway station or something, where uneducated men gang up and eve tease women.

I am a 10 year post PG experience Ortho Consultant. And I can confirm such incidents and toxic work culture and harrassment exists in the hierarchical training and education system in medical colleges. At least it also did in my PG college and the truth is it doesn't toughen you. It scars you.
They give excuse for this toxicity that this will make us tough in future. For God's sake it takes a toll on mental health in worst possible way. We generally avoid a place that is traumatising for us, but how the hell can we avoid our own workplace? For a long time there's been this vicious cycle of toxicity. We should all actively put efforts to end it.
I also have two of my cousins in the MBBS college, and they say the same thing about ragging, that it makes you tough, they are yet to get into internship year, but still they are stupid enough to not respect any other profession besides medical and keep telling all my younger cousins to get into medical line even if it takes 3-4 drop year as it is so called Nobel and only stable profession, and ppl like them who get into medical just for respect and money are the ones we need to get rid of.
@@SakshiSharma-en4bb why should we get rid of them, to do a job for money is someone’s personal choice, if they try to earn money by wrong means then it’s wrong
It's disheartening to realize that many people exhibit competitive and manipulative behaviors, even towards those who pose no threat, such as students. This realization is daunting, especially as i am approaching my final year.
Not from medical background but i have noticed Some professors are insecure & scared of the students so they don't teach them properly and try to break their confidence
Brave of you girl to come out and spoke in open. Heard so many stories of Medical Students harassement, the whole system is so fucked up. Not sure this has been the case always or developed overnight in past few years. There should be Medical Student's body countrywide who can raise such issues with competent authorities. You can't fight this battle by being fragmented.
Happened with me too at LNJP Hopsital.I was not an intern ,but was pursuing diploma in radiography from there. Each day was hell. After that course was completed, I could not even bring myself to apply for jobs related to medical profession ever.
She is totally correct, indeed things are far more sinister there. I completed MBBS from MAMC. Enjoyable postings were PSM and Radio, all other postings were hell. LNH has established a shitty tradition of running hospitals on the shoulder of Interns and first pear PGs. Arushi is brave and wise in that she reveals the truth after she is out of range of LNH, most suffer silently.
PSM is cool posting reason 1. Mareej kitne he dekh lo, dawa wahi 4-5. No clinical examination no diagnosis 2. 9 baje aao, 1 baje Tak free 3. Surgery ortho gynae med me there is a huge crowd of patient which is continuously coming . And interns have no liability of making diagnosis and starting the treatment. They have no intention to learn also except some. 4. Medicine surgery aise MCQ ratt ke nahi aati, apko mehnat karni padti hai.
The worst levels of toxicity and inhumane behaviour still exists in our profession. And lot of my colleagues across the country face this shit. Thank you for posting this and don't let anybody take it down
Oh boy. Im '18 batch intern recently finished internship. Gynae was hell for me. But surgery and medicine were not. My pgts and srs were really good to me. I cannot even imagine the amount if trauma people in the north have to go through in big colleges. And here im dreaming about getting a decent pg seat in a well known college in delhi. Smh.
In this comment section Everyone start talking about their toxic internship, srship.. But the girl also talking about patients.. reality of how some doctors treat patients with extremely careless attitude. No one talk about patients but she did kudos! Thank you for sharing your experience. Hope you are not going to be like them, and will treat patients with humanity. All the best 🙂
It all starts from 1st year itself di and the fact that you are made to accept it and normalise it and take it up in your character in the name of personality development necessary for doctors and that it makes you tough and strong and keep doing it with your juniors to make them strong. I am 6 months into my BDS 1st year and instances hve occured where a group of seniors kept scolding me with abuses just becoz i decided to prioritise my studies before participating in a rangoli making compettion against my will. I bursted out crying they still didn't stop and teach me to accept it for the same reasons mentioned above. And if u decide to raise your voice the threats of ruining career not helping n all. I still am not able to process how will i survive this field. Ik its just nothing in comparision to internships but my point is why raise voice so late ...shud do it since the very 1st year...
I HAVE 2 STORIES FROM BJ MEDICAL COLLEGE, AHMEDABAD. 1. AN ORTHO SENIOR PG SLAPPED 1ST YEAR PG SO HARD, IT ECHOED IN THE CLOSED OT ROOM. I worked in Gyne department in 1995. It was toxic then. I ran away after 2 months. They continuously shamed and harassed me. They had a few pets who would do their bidding. Worked in Hindu Rao hospital after that for a year. Had a great experience. Now I am a radiologist in Canada. Amazed by how the teachers here are so free with teaching us everything they know with so much patience and kindness.
I agree, fighting with quacks and wannabes and being treated like shit turns people to shit. A lot of insecure people in medicine too. They target people who are capable of outshining them. They like dumb people who can make them look better. If students grade their teachers and their promotions depended on it they would stop behaving so badly. I had many great radiology teachers in Hyderabad who were kind and considerate. I am grateful for that.
One of my juniors got 467 AIR and took medicine at LHMC thinking that as it is a Delhi college, it must be good and within 1 month, he quit it because of the toxic work culture there. He is now preparing again. There are many peripheral Colleges which have good infrastructures, academic activities and no toxicity. Doing heavy doesn't mean toxic but torturing mentally is. I passed out from RIMS, Ranchi and did my internship there too. I didn't face such toxicity. All seniors were helpful and always told us to go back once the work assigned is finished and read for PG exam. For those who don't know, one should choose RIMS , Ranchi as it has food infrastructures, good patient load, decent academics, good stipends ( now may be 97k per month ), and a good campus.

Such toxicity is one of the reason medicos like me have started considering USMLE, PLAB etc. I am also a student at MAMC and your video mam has made my decision more firm to go outside this country.
I can see the frustration clearly,, she is absolutely telling the truth ,,we all need to come out together,we worked harder than most of the people ,sacrificed all our youth and still treated like shit just because we have been suppressed from the beginning, attendance nahi milegi, paas nahi honge etc,,we need to leave our selfishness and get united ,unity is the only way, out of context - one my junior said recently I just want to die fast ,,can u imagine the frustration level!!
Our Obgy night duties also started from 7pm instead of 9pm , but never faced any toxicity in the department from PGTs and SRs, rather I've one of the best internship memories with them, can't imagine how people survive in such level of toxicity that too during a vital learning phase like internship.
I am a second year surgery resident! And man the amount of toxicity we go through! On one of my 24hour oncall day, i was having a horrible epigastric pain. And it was aggravating with each passing minute. So much so that i couldnt sit in the opd anymore.. i requested my sr to give me a leave for that day. I even managed to get a replacement from one of my co-pgt.. but my sr refused! He told me to get diclo im and pan shot iv,, and then start emergency ots after 2hours.. i was sweating through my clothes in pain but i was not allowed to leave
I am a fifty right year old doctor.l voucher for every word this young doctor speaks. Like the proverbial Mother _ in _ law of previous generations, doctors of my age group are guilty of serious mental and physical harassment of the younger generation of doctors. The trauma inflicted is so extreme that some of the brightest minds in the country lose all self - confidence and drive.Tgey become depressed, anxious, hopeless and apathetic .This does not augur well for their patients, families ,or themselves. A doctor's profession is as such very demanding and stressful.Senior doctors make it INFINITELY worse.
To be honest i was filing return of a doctor and his earning was in crore but he was so toxic and was continuously saying that CA profession is waste you wasted your time. doctors earn more than you people as intern. Literally i was so disturbed by his behaviour that i started taking sleeping pills and ultimately i left my articlesship and joined another CA firm because i was going into depression . It was a traumatising experience.

Its so much better to do a simple BSc and live life comfortably without so much of hassle. Sometimes I really look back into my yonder days and regret my decision sooo bad...!!!! God,,,why did i choose this field.?!?!?!?!?!?
This is true. Ragging and bullying are common. But my friends , it can be eliminated only if you behave nicely with your juniors, when you become senior pgts or SR. In my experience most of my colleagues in MBBS and in pgs who complained of ragging, misbehaved with their juniors . Root cause is when we become senior, we forget our junior days. So keep your integrity when you become seniors, behave nicely with your juniors. Other wise there is no end of this.
What this girl said is 100% true for wvery college. This happened to me during my ent , surgery and gynecology internship . Except medicine I didn't like my internship at all. I was an exceptionally diligent intern and used to work extra time for my pgts because they were overworked and had toxic seniors. And believe me when I say that NONE of them remembered it . They used to say " did i ask u to do any extra work? No excuses..u have to come on time otherwise I'll complain about u" or " u want me to believe the trash that u interns thought about wanting the pgts to rest?" .. once I had taken out a foreign body from a child's nose and its very natural that the baby would be crying if something is in his nose ..the pgt yelled at me for straight 10 min in front of the child's parents and other patients in the room as well as the medical officer about me possibly " killing " the child just because he was crying ( later I understood that she did that because she wanted to practice the skill herself) . I faced a similar kind of response from an obs gynae pgt as well for absolutely no fault of mine ( he did that to avoid anyone implicating him of complications that arose) . Pgts literally make u overwork and then pretend to not recognize u. I suffered from food poisoning during my surgery posting but wasnt given leave because of intense work pressure .. my professor was really nice and would always ask about my health but the pgts would say that " yes she's still sick and not working" when i was actually collecting blood of patients in the ward at that time . While my stomach ache was intense i was not allowed to lie down on the doctor's bed . The SR told me that if u feel sick then go to your hostel but u cant sit here .. but when i went to my hostel to rest a first year pgt called me up after just 2 hrs and told me " you have already reasted for 2 hrs. Come back and work . Others are waiting for u" .. Only in a handful of colleges such things do not happen but otherwise it's really a toxic workplace
Kudos to you for speaking about such toxicity of seniors... I too faced it bt i was boycotted n misunderstood by everyone... They literally went on edge to break me down mentally bt i never did bcz I had worked very hard in my life to become a doctor. That's y I always thought that I'd never do that with my juniors n i never did it.. Idk ki in seniors ko kaun sa sadistic pleasure milta h khud ko mahan samjhne me
My batchmates was yelled at for crying when she had a needle prick from an hiv positive patient…there was a professors daughter who would scream at me at 3 am and say stuff like- I will never let you finish internship if you don’t ditch the pg you’re distributed under and work for me instead…the work hours were crappy, there was double em so frequently…there were a very few rare good moments too I am not denying but being treated like trash was a constant
Your video is extraordinarily direct and on point.Very sad to hear about such state of affairs.Being a mbbs student at mck , i have heard about such mistreatment of my seniors at delhi colleges including aiims and mamc during pg .Hope that such videos can be an eye opener for those who are in charge of these institutions.

Yes exactly, I myself am a NEET aspirant, have my exam in 14 days, and watching these scenarios really disheartens me. We NEET aspirants are ready to put in the work but these things make us reconsider the decision to enter the medical field. I hope that the ppl who are going to be our seniors are good and break this vicious cycle of toxicity.
I have experienced things like that during my internship in medicine, surgery, obg department. In medicine, one PG assualted verbally even after doing whatever rubbish work that was assigned and threatened me to mark me absent. Medicine ,Obg and surgery internship were horrible where we had continuous 36 hrs duty with just 30 mins break for lunch and dinner each, not allowed to rest for even an hour, and were not allowed to have breakfast the next day. They treated us so harshly . I doubt what kind of doctors will these inhuman PGs become in the future.
oh i have one more incident that happened with my friend. she met with an accident during her internship, resulting in sacrococcygeal dislocation and was on complete bed rest for months. look at the irony of the situation.. her orthopedics HOD called and threatened her to report immediately. he even mocked her saying that "esa kuch nai hota, humne toh ye kabhi suna bhi nai. tum natak kr rahi ho." that man ridiculed my friend despite having all the reports and evidence right in front of him.. the situation got so bad that my friend's father had to intervene. even after that, that hod gave her an extension where she had to report to the department everyday and lie in bed like a patient herself. her college gave her a trauma like mine and now she has left the medical field.. tbh we are losing gems just because of the harsh treatment and environment we have to work in! this is absolutely horrific!
Relatable much???? Poori dekho… Not bragging but I am a very hardworking, ambitious and talented person and the toxicity did get to me at one point and shitty people made me question every decision that I had taken but I like it that the recent genz trend is to CALL OUT WRONG AS WRONG AND TO BRING ABOUT THE CHANGE THAT WE DESERVE… If anyone wants to reach out to me and share their toxicity stories or if you are struggling with anything- Anonymously or with bravery we can throw light on it- My dms are always open It’s passionate_dermatologist on Instagram and draarushimd@gmail.com on Gmail To the very very rare fraction trying to call this video as fake and bs- atleast ten people from the same place have validated everything and almost everyone in the comment section agrees that though this video has been made keeping lnjp in mind, it’s the story of every other medical college in the country. I have a lot more to share, every day there deserves one video, I don’t even know what was I upto till now and did not talk about it. I don’t sugar coat things but my current work place is so much better
Being a medical student. I would like to tell you an incident that happened with me. I once went to an Orthopedic consultant. He asked me where's the pain so medically i explained him , Sir it's near the lumbo sacral joint and you know what he did. He threw the xray on my face saying, don't teach me Anatomy.... I just generically told him.
Similar incident has happened with me. Orthopedic HOD has told me straight to my face that I should not be teaching him and should simply obey his orders since I know nothing. Surgery,OBG, Orthopedics have crossed all limits of toxicity. No wonder Dermatology,Radiology are the preferred branches today.
Well, from your talks- it seems work load is high. Government should appoint extra doctors and fix the working hours of interns, residents, outside doctors, consultants to 8 hours daily, and start over system, and work in 3 shifts daily. usually, government is lazy and keep shortage of doctors in government medical Colleges. Take care.
I did 3 months in Ortho residency, one day the consultant call me and scold me in front of patients and everyone for not taking o.t consent which actually was his job. He called m.s and inform him I did not do my duty. He complained about every r.m.o before me and after me. So, that day, after months of torture Ii thought enough is enough and said what do you want, sir. Then I change the department. 12 hrs work everyday for 6 days a week, you have to assist in o.t 5-6 hrs 3 times a week. This field is really not a noble profession,it’s a charity
@@Passionate_dermatologist he is still working as consultant but no RMO or any junior doctor to assist him now. He is doing o.t,discharge, follow up,investigations, post op everything himself now😅
True for almost all govt, medical colleges and the simple reason is too many patients without hospital capacity to handle that, even a common man can see that every govt hospital has people filled like cattles all day and night. Patients doesn't understand as its a one time experience for them but for people working there its a routine they have to go through that every single day.

It is in our hands now..when we reach at senior position we shouldn't do such things. Let's promise ourselves. May be in a span few years these things will end.
The only solution is that examiners should be from a different medical College, these examiners should be changed for every exam, so that no one has power over the other. The exams should be conducted by a central board. Maybe students from one college can go to another for their examination, maybe even a different state. More power to you Dr Arushi.
Finally somebody is letting out the toxic reality of our profession. Worst work culture and work ethics across medical colleges in India. Its a shame that the faculties who underwent these kind of toxic work culture are now the ones who are perpetuating it.
I left my Ms Surgery seat because of toxic boss and seniors.. I was asked to give injection KCL to a super sick patient. I refused and everyone went against me
In my college GMC Jalgaon the ophthalmology dept had 3 residents with no juniors so they would inflict horrible torture on the interns where we were called from the hostel only to insert 2 intracaths or write the format of notes so that they can fill up the details. And despite doing all the work for them they would still mock us, scold us, treat us like shit. We were 11 interns in the opd, because juniors had begun their internship and couple of us had extension and we literally had no space to sit there yet they would not divide the duties, expected female interns to come at 2 AM to attend calls in casualty despite male interns were attending it. And one time one of the residents had to come to casualty in the middle of the night, she put an extension on the on call interns of the day. Why are you guys doing residency if tumse kaam nahi jhela jaata hai? Apna frustration apne paas rakho, interns are not dump

@@macrofrommicro6241 just curious because if your guide during research is a bully it is equally toxic. Yeah they can't fail you but they get personal with lunch breaks, arrival and departure timmings and sometimes pile on unnecessary work.
@@sanskritibarman4928 well I made it perfectly clear I will not call any senior sir or mam to them you can either be my friend or go to hell and it may get toxic if you show weakness and if they are exploitive type .but generally in research people don't care that much because they aren't idiots and internship is a little tricky because we have to go to professors again and again and they reject again and again and internship is necessary to get letter of recommendation.so it might get manipulative if the power were to be in hand of immature seniors like in medical but they are professors so it's extremely easy plus I can't tolerate bullying so I am glad I didn't choose something like medical because I don't just weep in a corner my mindset is a little psychotic i don't get scared when I am angre even a little so I am bad for myself and for those asshole seniors .so in short if you want to pursue research and avoid bullying welcome to iisc banglore or iisers
@@macrofrommicro6241 good to know it's not going to be that difficult. I pursued my bachelor's in DU and have absolutely hated each moment of it. Fortunately I have been called for an interview at IISc Bangalore and really look forward to having the experience of my life like you said. So if you have been a part of their decorated alumni I would love to know more!

Everything can be taught in a civil manner but some people still choose to spill their personal problems all over others

I was in MAMC in 2000 as an intern, things were even worse then. Good you have made this videos
Happened with me too at LNJP Hopsital.I was not an intern ,but was pursuing diploma in radiography from there. Each day was hell. After that course was completed, I could not even bring myself to apply for jobs related to medical profession ever.
👏👏👏 the real truth.
PSM is cool posting reason
1. Mareej kitne he dekh lo, dawa wahi 4-5. No clinical examination no diagnosis
2. 9 baje aao, 1 baje Tak free
Thank you for raising concern behalf of overselves.

Amazing to call out mamc ka toxic culture. Spineless consultants harassing students leading to suicides. They are answerable and accountable.
REASON; THE JUNIOR FORGOT TO PUT BLOOD PINT REQUEST IN THE BLOOD BANK.
2. AN ORTHO PROFF. HIT THE 1 ST YEAR PG WITH A SURGICAL METAL INSTRUMENT JUST BECAUSE THE JUNIOR WAS TOLD TO HOLD THE LEG OF A VERY FAT PATIENT IN CERTAIN POSITION FOR THE SURGEON TO WORK AND THE POOR GUY GOT FATIGUED WHILE HOLDING THE LEG FOR HALF AN HOUR.
Idk why but I have met the most insecure people in some of the teachers here. Maybe it’s the saturation due to parallel medicine
Please tell how to go to Canada after radiology in India

He is now preparing again. There are many peripheral Colleges which have good infrastructures, academic activities and no toxicity. Doing heavy doesn't mean toxic but torturing mentally is.
I passed out from RIMS, Ranchi and did my internship there too. I didn't face such toxicity. All seniors were helpful and always told us to go back once the work assigned is finished and read for PG exam. For those who don't know, one should choose RIMS , Ranchi as it has food infrastructures, good patient load, decent academics, good stipends ( now may be 97k per month ), and a good campus.

You sure should
What this girl said is 100% true for wvery college.
Very TRUE, every word . Being a surgical resident I can confirm . This toxicity needs to end
Idk ki in seniors ko kaun sa sadistic pleasure milta h khud ko mahan samjhne me
kyuki they also know that they can only overpower their juniors ,Bahar krega t pitega
more power to you and poeple like you who have the courage to raise a voice
Being a pass out from MAMC .. i have also experienced this.. medicine posting as an intern was hell for me!! I prayed each day for it to get over
My batchmates was yelled at for crying when she had a needle prick from an hiv positive patient…there was a professors daughter who would scream at me at 3 am and say stuff like- I will never let you finish internship if you don’t ditch the pg you’re distributed under and work for me instead…the work hours were crappy, there was double em so frequently…there were a very few rare good moments too I am not denying but being treated like trash was a constant

Only the potential victims i.e. incoming students can break this cycle - by growing a spine and refusing to be a target.
Poori dekho…

How is it his job

True for almost all govt, medical colleges and the simple reason is too many patients without hospital capacity to handle that, even a common man can see that every govt hospital has people filled like cattles all day and night.
Patients doesn't understand as its a one time experience for them but for people working there its a routine they have to go through that every single day.

I left my Ms Surgery seat because of toxic boss and seniors.. I was asked to give injection KCL to a super sick patient. I refused and everyone went against me
Can you please clarify? Because KCl to sick patient might be because of low K+
Obviously nobody would mind giving it for medical indications, euthanasia is implied here
That's insane.
