The Bloop" is the given name of a mysterious underwater sound recorded in the 90s. Years later, NOAA scientists discovered that this sound emanated from an iceberg cracking and breaking away from an Antarctic glacier.
@@dennismelton2261One of you.....great. Yeah, 4% has been explored. Yet scientists have found and classified tiny plankton, but the megalodon and a 200+ ft fish manage to go undetected. Got it. Holding out for bigfoot, chupicabra, and the skinwalkers too, I guess.
You know that the common 'bloop' design is just an internet meme, right? Even just the size was impossible to estimate properly without knowing what kind of creature it was (there are very small animals capable of making unusually loud sounds). That being said, the sound is now believed to have come from a large piece of glacier breaking, which is much more sensible and parsimonious than "what if there's an unknown animal an order of magnetude larger than anything else we know has ever existed?"
Even though obviously the Bloop isn't real, I have always found the concept of it so neat and so terrifying. Also, the fact that so little of the ocean has been explored could mean there could be animals down there, just as terrifying and very very real.
It is impossible for the creature such as Bloop to exist and not have been detected. A massive creature at that size would be incapable of living in the deep oceans which are nearly devoid of life beyond microscopic organisms and detritus feeders.
