This video must have meant to oversell Tehran for some reason back then given too much street decorations portrayed in it. With about 70% of the population living in rural areas barely even accessing purified water and electricity, one can't be sure how far this could represent the whole "country" in 1960s.

No, thank you. No need. We Iranians look to the future and not the past. The past is only the light of the future so that our today is always better than yesterday. Iranian people do not need the Pahlavi family. If they needed him, they would not fire him. At the same time, he was cowardly and irresponsible and left the country and fled to save his life. I hate Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi. They were brutal dictators, but at least they were braver and more honorable than the former Shah of Iran. At least they were not cowards and stayed in their country until they were killed.

All these terrorists who now rule Iran, many of whom are dead now, were in jail convicted of terrorists acts against the Iranians and the US personnel in Iran, until Mr carter and his ' human righst ' agenda arived and forced Iranians to free them. We have witnessed the result of that folly for the past 44 years.

The better choice? The Shah who was placed in power by the British and the CIA after overthrowing Mosaddegh in the coup of 1953 was a stooge taking orders from the US, Britain and Israel. Iran under the Shah, was not even able to keep an accounting of its sale of petroleum. The Shah could do nothing of significance in world affairs, without first asking his handlers for permission.

Who was ruled by the Ottoman Empire? Ottoman Empire disintegrated in 1918 at the end of the first world war, and the modern state Turkey did not come to existance untill 1922. The 2nd world war started in Sept 1939 in Europe and Jpan attacked Pearl Harbour in 1941 when US joined the British. We did not have the 5th largest military in the world. This was manily the propaganda that the lefists and the communists used to criticise the Shah,. It was a bad example of misinformation, and unfortunatley it stuck.@@80xdplays88

Because the Shah's land reform plan failed and made the villagers unemployed. They migrated to the cities. Iran's urban population increased. But many of them lived in dilapidated tin houses around Tehran. For example, when you divide 100,000 meters of agricultural land into small plots of 500 and 1000 meters and divide it among the workers who work on the land, you reduce its productivity. The amount of investment in agricultural land will decrease. Workers do not have money to buy machines. In addition, agricultural land is small and not profitable for investment. Land reform was the biggest mistake of Shah. He should not have forced the feudal lords to divide the lands. He should have forced them to insure the farmers and increase their wages. Or he could force them to establish large agricultural companies and give part of the shares to agricultural workers, but the management of these companies would be centralized. The king thought he knew everything. He was an absolute dictator and did not listen to the advice of those around him. At the same time, he was too dependent on the United States of America. Iranian people have an ancient civilization history. Dependence on a foreign country is a shame for them. Changing the Iranian calendar was one of the great mistakes of the Shah. He did not adhere to the constitutional law. He should have developed democracy gradually, but he closed the existing two parties and established a one-party system. He left Savak's hand too open. He thought that the discontents could be suppressed by SAVAK. The current government of Iran is more efficient in social management. The king could not get the satisfaction of any of the social classes. He could not attract any of the social classes. Neither the traditional and religious society nor the civil society and the middle class. He could not attract at least one of these spectrums. Everyone was unhappy. both religious and clerics and intellectuals and liberals and writers and poets and artists and marketers. But the Islamic Republic of Iran is not like this. It has the support of the traditional and religious community and has been able to get more or less help from other parts of the society. In the last years of his rule, the Shah did not even have five percent of supporters. The opponents of the Shah united, but the opponents of the Islamic Republic of Iran have many differences. Their conflicts with each other are very deep and irreparable, and many of them even prefer the Islamic Republic to other opposition groups.
