I have these too. The only problem I have had with my bin is before I rebuilt it. In the drought of 2011, my bin was impossible to keep moist. At that time it was built of hardware cloth and 2” x 4”s. I rebuilt it out of stone.
How do you collect the casting? I am setting up a big plastic sink outside with red wrigglers for the first time here in Corpus Christi. I just found your channel and am now subscribed
Avodah Family Farms the BSF eat a lot and grow quick, so they may eat your food scraps faster than the worms can get to them. But they won’t bother the composting worms. BSF also aren’t particularly attracted to composting browns so if you wanted to minimize them you could cut back on feeding the outdoor bins fruit and veggie scraps during the summer.

Thank you for this video! I just found ‘maggots’ in my Urban Worm Bag and freaked out. I’m in San Antonio and it’s above 100 degrees now. 🥵
Where they BSF larva (large and crawly) or fly maggots (small and wriggly)?
How would you go about harvesting/collecting the BSF larvae to feed to the chickens?
Love your garden & chicken coup
Thank you! Would Love some new subscribers to the Lonestar Coops channel

THANKS
Soldier fly always take over my worm bins in Austin when it gets too hot! Is there anything I can do when the soldier fly horde comes crashing in?
Avodah Family Farms you could embrace it...or try to exclude the adult BSF with netting over any holes so they can’t get in and lay eggs.
@@TexasOrganicGardening Thanks for the info. If I embrace them, will they ever overwhelm the worms?
