Insect farming is a growing industry whose goal is to help address the protein crisis. Currently the planet is facing several crises - the protein crisis is one not often talked about. With the growing human population putting increasing pressure onto food systems, we need alternative protein sources to help cover this gap. Enter the insects, specifically the black soldier fly (BSF), which can bio convert our food waste into a high-protein insect meal. This insect meal is a fantastic ingredient in agriculture, aquaculture and even pet foods. The extremely high efficiency of insect farming allows us to produce this protein ingredient at the lowest carbon footprint for any protein source on the planet.

That stupid "carbon footprint" is replacing profit-and-loss as the standard of performance, success, and failure.

These farms can produce waste equivalent to that of small towns, and it's simply discharged into the water. Personally, I am against this type of farming, especially when we have viable alternatives like land-based Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) that don't present the same waste disposal issues as net pens. I don't perceive his viewpoint as elitist, but rather as rational and logical.
