Rashid Johnson - Cosmic Slop #10 and Cosmic Slop #11 (Two Works), 2008

Rashid Johnson’s “Cosmic Slop #10” and “Cosmic Slop #11” explore the parallels between dance, performance, and the creation of art. Aptly named the “Cosmic Slop” series after the 1973 Funkadelic album of the same title, Johnson says of these creative process behind these works: “I move around them on the floor, on the wall, back on the floor, and I realize the movement ends up becoming something like a dance that the painting comes out of.”
