Mudlarking the River Thames - My Best Ever Mudlarking Finds so far this year (June 2021)

- I recently had the best ever mudlarking outing on a particularly low tide on the River Thames in London. From the moment I walked down onto the foreshore I spotted a special something staring up at me through the mud! And then it just went on from there. Coins, the LONGEST pipe ever and a really curious little token which I had great fun researching.
I hope you enjoy accompanying me virtually on this special mudlarking outing!
If you are tempted to try mudlarking, then you do need a permit from the Port of London Authority. You can find out all the info on their website here:-

Thank you for watching. If you'd like to find out what some of my all time mudlarking finds are so far, then take a look at this video here : ruclips.net/video/ZBXYR9pStF0/видео.html
Maybe you'd be a bit grumpy if you'd been lying on your back in the mud staring at the sky for 300 years! 😉 Excellent video as usual.
@@davidprovan2250 How true! 😂🤣
@@davidprovan2250 ha ha yes good point. And what a very different world he has emerged into from the last one he saw
@@nicolawhitemudlark I'm sure they will all cheer up soon in the warm and dry!
Nicola I wanted to bring your attention to a "Roman" find that you missed in your video - I have taken a screenshot and highlighted it ibb.co/pK10x6m hopefully you can go back and recover it since it is near that big chain and should be easy to find again.
We had a garage sale and had stacked a bunch of boxes full of broken glass and ceramic objects. An artist came by and took them off our hands. To us, it was trash; to her, it was treasure!
That's often the way it is! Well done for giving it away
The best part of Sunday❤️
Happy Father’s Day to all who are celebrating ✨
Nic, you are living art. Full of grace, beauty and most importantly wisdom.
Thank you for doing these great Videos for us.
Thanks John. That is so very kind of you xx
Absolutely nothing on TV beats this. How.lovely is this! Discovering historical items off the thames. The history Channel wishes they could be this original. 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thank you ❤️
If you get London Live channel on your Freeview then this channel is on TV.
Great finds Nicola 😊 !!! Nice clay pipes especially the very long one & I loved your friend's tiny clay pipe !!! Nice coins. Love the Bertmann bottle neck with the grumpy man's face !!! When you put him with the other 3 grumpy men faces I said "they are the Bertmann Brothers" !!! That was so sweet & darling at the end of your video of you holding that beautiful baby duck & was able to find it's mom & I absolutely loved that you named him Elvis !!! Elvis has been my favorite singer since I was a little girl around 8 years old !!! Really enjoyed your video Nicola !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙂
So glad the duckling was reunited with its mum. Great work, and some great finds on the foreshore too! Loved it!
Awwww, the swans and their cygnets. So beautiful
I COULD LISTEN TO THIS LADYS VOICE ALL NIGHT RELAXING. PLUS GREAT HISTORY KNOWLEDGE AND FINDS, LOTS OF SMOKER'S ABOUT PIPES.,
The way you talk sometimes, especially at the start of this one, really reminded me of the type of random programmes my teacher would put on in infant school when they rolled the TV in for TV time. What fun and carefree times 🙂
Haha I remember those well. I hope that's a compliment 😀
@@nicolawhitemudlark Certainly a compliment, I very much enjoyed this one! Thank you 🙏🏼
Nicole you have the best eyes it amazes me that you can find coins you collect. I loved the long pipe! Thank you for sharing.

@@nicolawhitemudlark she loved it ! She wants to go back on here next leave. My wife and I cant wait to visit soon !
I am so pleased for you for your pipe find- I found myself holding my breath as you pulled it out- whispering don’t break, don’t break. So happy for you
First, thanks so much for all the lovely footage of water babies, Adorable. What wonderful finds, I love the long pipe but the Bartman face is my favorite, Thanks Nicola.
Thanks Debbie I also love that bartmann face x
Your have me inspired to take a trip from Las Vegas to London just to mudlark! My ex bf lives in Croydon. We're still great friends and when I told him about you and wish I'd known about mudlarking when I used to visit him 20 yrs ago, he knew who you were because he goes to hear your son's band quite a bit! Small world!
Nicola…thank you for being on RUclips. I don’t sleep well, so I watch you usually late at night when the house is quiet. I appreciate having you to be with me.
Hi Maria, I'm so glad you enjoy them. Sending you love. Nicola ❤️
Oh WOW my favorite pipe whisperer! That is an amazing pipe! And Bartman. Love your adventures. Here in Florida, USA
Thank you for the swans and the cygnets, beautiful video. Looks like a lovely day. What an amazing pipe.
Always look forward to Sunday afternoon when I can sit down and watch you and Simon. Wonderful finds.
I think that pulling a long pipe like that out of the mud must be a glorious experience. :-) Love the history behind the Pears Soap coin, thanks for researching it. Love the collabs, so glad you are able to get out to enjoy them.
11:59 Picture an excited Mudlark 300 years from now "Oooh it's a shopping trolley! If we wipe off the handle we can tell which supermarket it came from!" Awesome video as always Nicola, that intact clay pipe was really special.
Haven't commented in a while, but I always enjoy your posts, Nicola. How astounding that such a fragile, long pipe lasted, intact, in the foreshore mud, for centuries. So glad you liberated him from his precarious location. I had goosebumps, as you kept pulling and the pipe just kept going. FAB ! Also, your old, bearded man bottle neck. Thanks for letting us search the Thames shoreline with you. Fascinating.
Thank you ❤️😘
I have a Harper’s Magazine from 1884 with Pears soap advertisements in it. That’s so cool that you found a token!
Thank you so much for saving that little duckling.
Another tummy full of historical data. Thanks a million Nicola. Keep up the good work.
Hi Nicola, always happy to see you. Wow, what a long stemmed pipe. Surprise! Enjoyed watching ! Keep up these wonderful videos. Take care, Joyce🇺🇸. ARROW *🎱. ❤️.
That was definitely a hold you breath moment as you extracted the pipe. Congratulations !
Every time you shake things in the water to clean it off, I start shaking my phone… as though that’s going to help get it cleaner!! Lol!
Fantastic video as always! That pipe!! Wow! Amazing find!! Also along with pears soap and a queen Victoria coin.
You made me laugh when you said ‘If I break this pipe I will never make a video again!’
Look forward to seeing next week’s finds x
I'm always happy when you find something exciting to show us!
What phenomenal finds! I actually gasped when you found the Bartman face.
Omg! When you pulled that pipe out with the long stem, I think I was just as excited as you!
Thank you Nicola for another wonderful video. Take care.
Thanks Janet ❤️
Thank you so much for showing us your amazing finds!! 👍🙏🙏🙏
That piece of Bellamine was stunning!
Pears Soap is my favourite and totally agree, the smell is gorgeously cleansing. Just adore Your Channel , a heartfelt thankyou Nicola for taking us through lockdown and everything You do !!!, Would love to join you one day on the glorious River Thames for a Mud Lark ,Lots of Love Juliet xoxoxo
Oh my goodness that was the most fantastic pipe find !!!
Awesome video Nic! Can’t wait to see the collaborative videos too!!
Love and peace and continued good health to You and to the Lucky duckling who found you!! 🤍🕊🤍
I love how "normal" this video is. In my country many of us we were in rolling lockdowns - and for weeks at a time only allowed out of our houses for government approved reasons. And there you were; being absolutely normal! It is so nice to see normal. I don't think I have ever heard the word "mudlarking" in Australia. You seem to have more mud.
You spoke my question as soon as I saw the length of that pipe -- 'How am I going to get it home intact?' Loved the Bartmann face peering out at you. This was a wonderful 'lark. Enjoyed it as always. Looking forward to all the collabs!! Still waiting for another installment of the 'Ladies Who Lark'. Have a wonderful week! Happy Summer Solstice -- May you have many good summer days with many, many finds!
Do the Bartmann!
Excellent finds, that long stemmed pipe is a real beauty!
I gasped as you pulled that pipe. I gasped again when you showed us that second (your only other) counter stamped coin. 😂 Always such a pleasure watching your adventures. ❤️
A1 as usual a perfect presentation of your lark 👍Severe envy of your historic finds 😊Thank you 👍👍
Wow, you've got to wonder how a clay pipe with such a long stem can survive that long.... Amazing! As usual, your eye is amazing!
Ahhh! Those soothing tones of Nicola!
I missed this video so I’m catching up. That pipe was glorious! What an amazing find! Great job Nicola!
Thanks Connie
Amazing video Nicola. For a second I thought maybe you'd found a whole Bartman jug....it was a nice thought!! 🙃 The pipe extraction was an 'ah moment'! Make lots of your beautiful glass fish!! 🐠 Christmas will be here before we know it and they will make great gifts!! 🌹🌻🐪
Super finds Nicola! Always enjoy your wonderful videos!! 🤗
I find your channel absolutely fantastic ,I have just discovered you ,I have lived abroad for 20 years and this makes me very homesick .thank you so much for your interesting blog
Thanks Nicola. I just love your videography of the Thames and it's wildlife. Amazing pipe. I do love a good Bartman face! Woohoo!💜🤩
Thank you Annette x
Hello Nicola...I have just discovered and am fascinated with your mudlarking.I lived in London for 30 years and would never have thought of troweling at low tide.I missed out big time and just know I would have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. To late now...I moved to Sri Lanka 10 years ago and have only found a solitary coin when we renivated our colonial home.
It was fun watching you extract that very long pipe.
Only just got round to watching last weeks video. An excellent watch as usual with some wonderful finds. The pipes and coins are really impressive.
Regards to you,
Rod K
Wow!! Is that your longest ever pipe? That’s awesome. Aw the baby duckling at the end was so cute, glad it was reunited with its parents. Great video Nicola.🌟
Thanks Adam! no it wasn't actually my longest but very nearly!
Congrats on your intact pipe find, so exciting. I watch your channel just for the pipes. I never get sick of them.
Thank you!
Thanks again Nicola. Lovely finds.
I was listening to. Messing about on the river, thought of you. What joy is there. X must be great to find a full pipe, I do love those buttons 💕
Thank you!
Nicola, no treasure you dredge up from the Thames foreshore could ever match yourself. Love your channel. Always looking forward to more. Thanks from across the pond.
Thank you ❤️ what about lovely thing to say xx

I'm always thrilled to watch your videos. Thanks for uploading :)
Fantastic find your Bartman piece. That crow was cheering your coin find. That pipe was waiting for you, lol. So, the torso turned into a horse that turned out a camel. Interesting. How small that pipe is. Interesting history on the token and the exhibition pipe. It would have been good to see a picture of a complete one.
Nicola you really didn’t disappoint me today. A magnificent pipes!!! Thank you!
Thanks Connie x
Wow some incredible finds. I can’t believe those pipes, they are so long!! It’s so fascinating how they’ve survived intact all those years. Thank you for another amazing video 👍
The whole pipe….1740 - 1770? Missed you last week. Glad to see you today. Week is complete! Enjoy the following week. Cheers Nicola! 🏴😊👍🇺🇸
Classic finds and so pleased for you. Thank you.
Nicola I really enjoyed your video that pipe was amazing and I love the history of your finds.
I have serious pipe envy! What a beauty!
Doesn't get much better than finding that exquisite pipe intact! Congratulations! And your lovely Pears coin is very special. The Bartman faces make me smile - as grumpy as they are. Have a wonderful week Nicola!
My jaw dropped as you were pulling that pipe out .
I can't believe the ama,ing story of the Pears soap! I love that you found a full Bartmen face! There are many mudlarks, who covet them! That blows my mind! You are truly the queen of pipes! Oh Hail Nichola White the queen of pipes!
The tiny pipe the Northerns found a really teny tiny pipe, I assume you probably filmed this video before the teny weny pipe!
Omg Nicola we love watching your RUclips channel. My friends and I all watch together and dream of going to the Themes and Mudlarking. We couldn't believe that long pipe you found. Amazed that it was still in one piece. Hello from America and Thank you for all your videos 💕
Thank you and a big hello to all of you ❤️
I love the Bartman carving and the clever use of space on the bottle. Gorgeous finds.
As always a joy to watch! I love the editing, how you bring in the swans and that cormorant eating a flatfish of some kind. Did it also have chips? Your vlogs are so informative and yes there is the suspense. It is mudlarking noir :-) Great finds this time round. I wonder about how a French coin might end up there, perhaps like the Exhibition pipe - both from 1862 - a coincidence. Nice to see you have viewers from all over the world. Look forward to the next videos. I watched it as I had my spaghetti bolognese for dinner. :-) Perfect combo.
What a great day of finds. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like a fun hobby. And you seem to really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh! I have an engraving of that scene! I collect old paper and had no information about what it was but it's in beautiful shape! Now I know it was about the Exhibition! This is great. Love your videos :)
Glad this helped to solve a mystery. And thank you!
Thanks for a lovely squelch along the Thames.
Wow you had some great finds. I love the clay pipe. I hope Mudpies find a long complete some day, would be Josie's dream. Xxxx
Your videos are tantalizing. You hook me every time. Hook Line & Sinker.
I loved history in school. I love your stories and the way you tell them.
Omg that pipe is amazing and complete wow
Nicola, princess of the Thames!👍
The Bartman face was superb, next find is a whole Bartman! Exciting to see that extraction of the pipe, what a stunning find. So pleased that you were able to return the duckling to mum at the close of your mudlarking. Thanks Nicole. Sue and Ian, Australia
So when it comes to clay pipes, size matters ;) great job as always.
Thank you for the lovely video.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
That whole pipe is an amazing find
Go to the hardware store and get a 2ft piece of pic pipe , 2 end caps that fit, a can of pic glue and a short length piece of nylon rope. Glue one end cap on for a bottom and glue the nylon rope on as a sling. Use the unglued cap as a top. This will protect your pipe and long objects from everything else in the bucket
Fascinating, interesting and calming! Keep up the good work
Let us hope that it was CLINT who lost his counterstamped coin.
Perhaps it was also an advertisement? Lol
@@ickabod_crank I was pretty curious about that. How sure are you?

It makes me wonder what sort of dandy was smoking that magnificent pipe! The bartman jug top was amazing as well! Great finds as always Nicola! ♥️😊
Oh my goodness Nicola, what amazing finds! The pipe is fantastic and I love the Bartmann face, even if he is a bit grumpy 😄 For me though the Pears soap token had to be the best, what a fab story! All that from one little coin...marvellous 😃 x
Thanks Amanda! Hope you're well and hope to see you soon xx
Bartmann face and the beautiful pipe...lucky day...

James & I really enjoyed watching this adventure, the bellarmine face & the long pipe are our favourites. (James thinks you might have missed a large marble or grapeshot just to the left of the bartmann face 👀lol! )
We are looking forward to watching your collaborations that are coming up.
Take care xx
Thanks Emma! Ah nooooo did I miss something! Oh, how about we do a collaboration together - with James! x
@@nicolawhitemudlark oh my goodness James would love that! 👍🏻 Xx
Yes, I wondered about that object as well. In fact I wondered if it could be a marble from one of those pinched off bottles.
