HBO won that battle 20 years ago with The sopranos and the wire. Even if HBO didn’t ever release anything ever that, those two would still shatter anything Netflix and Amazon have produced. Amazing that there still is boardwalk empire, true detective, Rome and of course Succession.

The thing is Netflix and prime shows are made for only streaming. So, they're full of cliffhanger moments and there's a lot of pressure on the writers to keep viewers engaged as most internet audience have a very short attention span. But HBO shows are the real deal, characters are properly carved out, Stories are slow burn and offer adequate rewards for the patient viewers. These shows arer great for your mind, personality, and soul.

I love the easter eggs in the intro. You can see the dynamics of the children with the dad, also Logan is perpetually unhappy like even with his achievements. In that little shot of him with the curtains you see that he does feel disappointed as a father/husband. The woman on the chair sitting all grumpy is probably Carolina and them at their breaking point in their marriage. Kendal is probably the one with the tennis bat, clearly being forced to be good at everything. Shiv has been an observant all along, playing with her pony but silently trying to understand everything around her. The newer bits come in clear film, showing the legacy he’s left but with a tinch of darkness. The final shots are him with his family where he feels disconnected followed by his older self with his colleagues who he trusts more than his own family, leaving him alone. And it all happens because of the abandonment he’s inflicted onto his kids in the final cut.

I don't think it is supposed to be them. The four children never were roughly at the same age. Also there is no reason for super 8 footage at that time - it would have been Hi8 video when they were that age. Much more it is a general expressionist idea of rich families being disconnected - the 16mm footage implies that it is more than one generation. Children who seemingly have everything but when looking closer are all on their own.

@@tvsrn44 The family is indeed loosely styled after the Roys - four children of the correct gender. But I don't think they are meant to be them as I doubt the intro creators knew the plots of the coming seasons. Therefore they would not know how much backstory would have to be invented. So if they had taken that specific family in an identifiable way, they would have run the danger of contradicting the content of the show. So instead they went for generic rich people entertainment, a generic retro look and generic actors, all of which could stand in for every generic rich family. The important point to come across is the absence of love and warmth, which is what makes that family a perfect stand in for the Roys, no matter how much of the details don't match.

I agree. It’s a work of art, this slideshow we flip through, suggesting in just scant minutes the otherworldly perks and the soul-deadening strain of growing up so wealthy. There’s something brilliant in the shot of the four kids well-dressed and lined up, projecting confidence until you notice how uncomfortable their stances seem to be, their awkward feet.
With the music and these images, I find an empathy for them that their adult selves makes almost wholly inaccessible: a sort of “Rosebud” epiphany.

The Board of Directors doesn't know. And if Shiv fails, the father's only remaining logical successor is the one who overtly attempted to overthrow him - Kendall.
