Vulhandes was the first for me too. I have been teaching my kids to search for black you tubers, funnel some of that good RUclips cash to our community. Thank you for this list.
This is a GREAT video! Like other's have said, I had to search "black photographers" to find this video! I have noticed that if one wants EXCLUSIVE black content, one must put "black" in front of it. I am not sure if this is because there are so few of us here or another reason! Keep posting and keep up the great work! I wish you the best! 😁
It’s videos like this that push me to create my own RUclips channel. We NEED more black photographers. I’ve found a few film photographers but no black digital photographers like me… representation matters !!! Just subscribed !
If I roam around the neighborhood with camera in hand I’m not not harassed. Regrettably I’m not sure that the case for black photographers. I live in a northern city but can not claim that we have a reputation for accepting diversity. I welcome seeing others out in the community.
Out here chasing the light. Students still studying. Everyone with a camera phone but not necessarily understanding exactly what compels them to point and shoot, more than a thing to tweet or post on social media, something other than an atrocity, pornography, tomfoolery.. We need more galleries, storefronts in the hood, sales to barber shops and beauty salons and lobbies s and vegan cafes and tea places and fine homes and housing projects. I saw in an old barber shop 16x 20 black and white photographs of strong black men peering back at the viewer, Black Panthers peeling from the wall, working men in Fred Hamptons old neighborhood where he was murdered, the unsung and the unseen but remembered on this barbershop wall in a neighborhood awaiting the encroach of the Gentry. There they faced out like old Egyptians from ancient pyramid walls! Reminder s. We need to hold a mirror to our worlds, don’t care what shows up. Point and shoot. We still out here chasing the light!
thank you so much for putting this out, I'm Abdul Abaker from Sydney Australia I started my film journey very recently and I clearly understand you. much love.
Hey thanks for this . Rashod Taylor should be on this list . And hopefully in future I'll be joining the ranks .and representing the UK . REPRESENTATION DEFINITELY MATTERS anf I've started to look more inward and locally about what I want to show in my work and about MY life story !!! Keep up the good work .. let's beat down that algorithm ...
Great subject matter and so glad you have bought this up. I have always asked this question especially in relation to photographers who don’t look like me. I see them getting recognition for creating images and stories about us giving their perspective which can not be as authentic as if it was told through the lens of a black photographer who has lived experience. Black visual creatives and story tellers need to support each other together we are stronger.
I am always looking for great videos that are educational and would love to see more black photographers on RUclips. I follow Brandon Cole, Keydrin Franklin, and Prince Meyson because they’re the only black photographers that I found (before this video) that actually create pretty consistent content and the information is informative. That’s what I look for because I am self taught. There are several non-black photographers that I follow and when I watch them I am like “man why can’t I find photographers that look like me that create content like this”. I am excited to review this list that you’ve provided. Thanks for the information.
Thank you for asking this important question and giving us background information too. You’re amazing! Gabe Rivera is always documenting the people of NYC. Please everyone, check him out!
Great Video! I'm definitely looking for more black photographers in the RUclips space. It's why I started adding photography to my channel. Definitely subscribed.
You know what's crazy?? I was talking to my girl the other day about my quest to find more black creators (preferably in photography & videograpy) I ran across your channel just like you found these other creators, so.... I can use your channel to find those other creators!! I'm also from New Orleans, living in Los Angeles!! How crazy is that 😳😳?? I ran across vhalundes channel literally 2 days ago and watched like 10 of his videos!! However, I sometimes have a hard time subscribing to some black creators because sometimes the content isn't interesting to me and I don't wanna just subscribe because they're black ya know?? But, I like TERRY WARFIELD & YCIMAGING!! Also, my quest to subscribe to more women & black women in that same space for photo & video!! So, thank you for producing this content and getting this info out there!! Instant sub.... the New Orleans living in LA made it Instant.... I'm here👍👍
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU so much for this! I've literally been the same deep dive, and did NOT get this far. lol. But I appreciate it!! I look forward to seeing more of your content. :)
@@summeronfilm Of course! Here are a couple of photographers I found in my search. Let me know how you like their work! Have a blessed day! :) ruclips.net/user/VincentPerryJrvideos ruclips.net/user/shotbyShingie1videos
Every once in a while I search 'black photography' and nothing but 'B&W Photography' pops up. This time it was different. This time, it was you. I'm already subscribed to Vuhlandes. I'm more into landscapes urban or otherwise. Hopefully one of the links will have a youtuber who is into the same thing. Thanks!
As soon as your video popped up on my feed, I immediately liked and subscribed! I have been asking this question for a while; thank you for your content. I'm so glad you are addressing this topic. Every Black photographer's channel I come across, I subscribe to. The photographers you listed I am not aware of but will definitely find and subscribe. I have a few I'd like to share by name cause I'm about to retire for the night but felt I needed to make mention now. Tomiya Colvin--also an educator, Brandon Cole, Dana Cole, photomeike, Prince Meyson, shotbytherobot, Phloshop, and Ian Hippolyte. There's also the Black Female Photographers group that has a vibrant Facebook page as well as a website. There are many more Black Photographers here on RUclips I am subscribed to but cannot think of at the moment, however, I will return with more as I come across them. Happy to share these awesome folks though.
Black photographers are everywhere across America. And they can be found. Also have any of you researched Black photographers from the past, going all the way back to the early 1800's?? Black people have been involved in daguerreotypy/photography since its inception.
Thank u for this video. I’m in school taking a photography class and have a paper do on any photographer of my choice and of course why not do something on my people! Your absolutely right I found pretty much nothing…. It sucks! So thank u for this
Wayne A Dunwoody - PHOTOGRAPHER @nexupsports @azaphotograhs Happy to see this video out here. I’ve been shooting since the age of 9.. ABSOLUTELY LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY
I could not take one more video of a white man explaining technical aspects of photography and expensive gear and products rather than what the photography or photograph means. Just moody picture of gas stations after moody pictures of abandoned house. Thank you for putting focus on the artform rather than the medium, and perspectives outside of what is the loudest voice.
I appreciate what you are doing. However, It is important that you do not project your world view on the classifications of other people who do not agree with your worldview. I'm referring to the use of the term "cis". Admittedly, I had to look up. You may not realize that the term is offensive for a heterosexual and religious black male. My world view is that I could no more choose my gender than my race. And that just a few short years ago, a relatively a small segment of society agreed that they would live in an alternate reality where this was possible. I'm not saying this to be offensive you, but I am sharing with you my worldview without imposing it on you with labels. Among other things I am a Black Man. These are labels that I say are OK. No one would know better than me. I object to being refered to as "cis" as if it were possible that my parents and my God got it wrong. It is not just offensive, it is infuriating. Or is it that people with your world view are the only ones allowed to be offended by imposed labels. I wish you success with your channel.
Yes! I continue: where are all black artists, black Nobel laureates, black movie directors?
I literally just looked up “black photographer” found you and subscribed
Thank you for the love 🙏🏽
I also did the same lol
Same. lol
I did the same thing lol.

Thank you ! I found your video because I spent the whole week looking for black models and black photographers.. I also only new Vuhlandes.
I will say this .. i dont think they collaborate enough.. the canadians are masters at lifting up one another
