I would Love to see you guys do a video on Princess Alice of Greece, the mother of Prince Phillip. Born deaf, diagnosed with Schizophrenia, confined to an asylum, escaping from the asylum to shelter Jews during the war (conveniently forgetting how to lip read when the authorities came looking), before finally forsaking royalty to become a nun. What a badass.
I, too, would love to see a documentary about Alice of Battenberg, Prince Phillip's mother, in addition to the existing one on RUclips (as of 4/2023). Perhaps a series of documentaries to draw the lines between Queen Victria's grandchildren & their relationships... not just to each other but as the ancestors of the current Royal Families today, i.e. The British Royal Monarchy. What a strong brood of women these granddaughters of Queen Victoria were during times of great political and societal change that still affects the world today. These women are gone but not forgotten. A documentary series would be a wonderful tribute to them.
I was researching Queen Maria and found your video. First, I must thank you for all the information you provided in an interesting, professional manner. She was quite fascinating especially as a woman who, during this and in so many periods in History, were largely ignored. Queen Marie stood out by allowing her intelligence speak for itself. Intelligence doesn’t care if you’re a man or woman, dog, cat, or goldfish. You will never influence others in a positive sense if you’re not smart.
Amazing woman. Through sheer force of will she charmed the Allies into not only restoring her country's territory, but enlarging it. Her memoir is fascinating, well worth the read. She saw no reason why she could not be as effective as queen of her land as her grandmother was in her empire and set out to defy everyone's expectations. This forcefulness was tempered by her immense empathy for those who suffered. She was expert at harnessing her image to forward her goals, be it dressed in her nursing uniform to encourage others help the wounded or wearing her crown to glamourise and enhance her nation's negotiating position. Brilliant woman. Cheers. 😀
He is a handsome young man. I love his voice. He reads slowly and has a soothing voice. It puts me right to sleep. I can barely stay away 3 minutes and I'm out like a light. I wind up missing the story but I get to fall asleep, which I have a hard time doing.
I love Queen Marie of Romania. Many of her possessions are in the museum in Mary hill in Goldendale Wash. She was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and she loved her country..go see this fabulous museum.
Ah, the Maryhill Museum in Goldendale, Washington, in the Columbia River Gorge across from Oregon -- one of my favorite places! Considered by some to be the most isolated museum in America with the most astounding collection, it should be on every American's bucket list. In addition to the Queen Maria Collection, the museum boasts tremendous art, sculpture (Rodin), and miniature fashion models from Paris. Truly something for everyone. Why would such an isolated museum halfway around the world from Romania own the personal possessions of the famous Queen Maria, you ask? The short answer is that Queen Maria was a personal friend of Sam Hill, the founder of the Great Northern Railway Company, who lived in Washington state. She gave him many of her personal possessions in her dowagership, and he displayed them in the new structure that was built to be his home but never was -- Maryhill. Do make an effort to see its collections if you are ever in the vicinity in the Pacific Northwest.
That's the thing. Many times people are presented as too one dimensional. Being able to see the good, bad and in between, we see how they faced problems as a real human. Much more engaging in my opinion at least! ☺️
I enjoyed this historical story about, Queen Marie of Romania, she was a very interesting and yet fascinating woman. Great investigating, presentation and photos, too.
She looks just like Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie! She was so strong. She really was asked to endure some awful things but she found her strength somehow.
One of my favorite facts about Queen Marie is that she bred, showed and coursed Borzoi. There are some beautiful pictures of her with her hounds. Vassilka was her most well know borzoi.

BRILLIANT !!! I enjoyed learning of the Last Queen, who I never heard of !! Thank You so much for bringing this wonderful woman to me !! Now, I want to learn More about her !!!
I just found your channel and I love it. Not only is your voice soothing but your videos are so beautiful. Learning about these amazing women who have been forgotten by the world for the most part.
Great video although as a British person I must say that we never say Victoria I. She'll only ever be that if there's another British Queen with the same name. Thanks 🇬🇧
Marie of Romania was born at Eastwell Park. Eastwell Park is home built for Lady Elizabeth Murray, Dido's cousin from your Black Aristocrat video. Marie of Romania would write a book and remember fondly of beautiful Eastwell Park and her entire Royal Family had come to stay there including Queen Victoria, Future King and Alexandra of denmark, etc
Thanks for posting. I'm not that familiar with Queen Maria however I knew she was first cousin to Alix of Hesse, who became Empress Alexandra Romanoff of Russia. At frame 228, I think that is the Livadia Palace in the Crimea but it may be Balchik. Frame 257 shows a pic of a very young Nicholas Romanoff. Great historical pic's and story. Cheers from Coastal South Carolina, USA
Nice doing this, but some info is wrong or unaccounted for: Carol I was not Marie's father in law, he was her husband's fraternal uncle; fact she had an affair with Gheorghe Cantacuzino and even a child is pure gossip and speculation, not sure where you got this from ..., minute 8:33 and again the end the photo depicts one of her daughters - Queen Marioara of Yugoslavia; entering the first world war only in 1916 was due to the fact that the late king Carol I and close advisors ( country's strategists) did not want to be in the war on the side of Germany, in spite of the family ties + plus agreements in place. When joining war they did it on the side of Britain & Co since they used as escape the agreement with Germany itself, which said Romania stands by its side if attacked, but that wasn't the case. Last, Romania did not literally lose the war, the south part and the capital was under German ocupation for 2 years, but continued to fight, the royal family and government, nobles etc temporarily moved in the north, to Iasi (Iasy) city. Hope you'll find this useful.
I really enjoyed this video, although, on a personal level, it really hurt to learn that Marie's mother was emotionally distant from her children. I can understand when men are distant from their children since I was TERRIFIED of my father when I was growing up, but a mother? I really don't understand when mothers don't love their children. When I was still young and naive, I thought that all mothers were loving and protective like mine. I grew up very close to my mother until I lost her when I was twelve years old; from the time she learned that she was pregnant with me, until the day she died, she always kept me close to her, and loved me unconditionally.
I'm so sorry that you lost your mother so early. I'm also sorry that you had a father that was terrifying. I hope that you had someone else in your life, after your mother passed away that you could lean on. I wish that all mothers were loving and protective like yours. It's not the experience I had but it's the experience I tried to give my daughter. I think I did a pretty good job since we're still good friends and she's almost 30. Sending love, light and big hugs, k
@@kfemme68 Thank you. I didn't have anyone to lean on after Mama died, to be honest. My father's second youngest sister was the only one among his female siblings to have met my mother when she was still alive, and she was the closest one I had to a surrogate mother, but she had her own children, and her own problems, so she couldn't always be there; my older sister was a manipulative liar, and domineering control freak who could charm the skin off an angry snake, just like my father, so I couldn't lean on any of them, and most of my family members on both sides were distant, even indifferent. I've distanced myself from most of my family. Only a few of them actually became close to me, and began understanding what I had been going through in later years; they are the outcasts of the family, just like me, and we try to offer support to each other, even if we are living miles apart. I also have a close bond with my older sister's children, along with nephews and nieces from my cousins, although I can't stand their parents, and vice versa; I don't believe in having those children pay for their parents' crimes. I'm glad you and your daughter have a close bond; it's something I'm sure my mother and I would have had if she had lived to see me grow to adulthood, and I cherish the closeness we shared in the years I had her with me.

I forgot.Marie of Romania ( in childhood princess Marie of Edinburgh) was also first cousin of empress Alix or Alexandra of Russia and first cousin of grand dutchess Elisabeth or Ella, both killed by bolsheviks. So queen Marie of Romania was first cousin of both the Tsar and tsarina
I know that prior to WWI, Grand Duchess Olga of Russia was suggested as a suitor to Prince Carol - though she didn't want to marry him. Imagine though the impact on the history of both Russia and Romania had the marriage gone ahead.
stuff i never learned in school. i always wondered what actually happened with the monarchies of Europe. how did they really end? there are still royal families established besides the one in England. i should look this history up and find out once and for all. thanks for this - very interesting. and she was really quite a queen! :) 🌷🌱✨
Really nice video. I am from Romania and, as everywhere, the historical information delivered to the country's citizens on is distorted. For example, it's not widely known that she would have had any affair and unwanted pregnancy or that she would have been the 'true' ruler of the country. That wouldn't look good right? She's only known for being a good kind motherly figure who loved her husband and country dearely. It's really interesting to see how history "changes" with perspective! P.S. you nailed the Alba Iulia pronuntiation!
This video was sooo interesting! I am going to try to find some of the books Queen Marie wrote. I am sure they would give an insight into how she “ felt “ during good and bad times in her life. Thanks for making this video for us! 🇨🇦
The infos in this video (i do not say it as a critique!) are only 10% of her incredible life story. This woman was like a supernova. The Queen of the Wounded, The soldier Queen, The Queen of Hearts, The Queen of Queens, are only a few of the names we gaved her, out of love and respect! ❤
Boyle was a canadian officer in WWI ,he activated in Romania, ally of British Empire. He did some risky missions for the royal house of Romania and was very appreciated by queen Marie
We don't really use a Roman numeral after the name of Queen Victoria as their hasn't been a second Victoria. Usually we just say Queen Victoria, Empress of India.
My Grandmother tells the story to my mother of when she was a little girl when the Queen came to America. School Children were let out of school that day to see the Queen. Hearing those stories from my mother as a child made me interested in Queen Victoria and the Tsar of Russia. And the Jewels. Thanks Joan Rivers for that too.
Yes, the other princess Marie with Elisabeth of Wied... too sad she had the same fate as the lil prince Mircea who died during the war. Because Elisabeth and Carol did not have any more children, they called for Ferdinand to take the throne.

@@hansmiller664 TY. BTW,aAn Irish first cousin married a Polish/Danish close relative of Queen Marie of Romania. He had a Canbridge degree and a title he refused to use and no inherited money. Everything was seized by the Nazis and the Soviets.
You will find that the region of Transylvania was not part of Romania when Bram Stoker wrote "Dracula."-it was part of the Hungarian portion of the Austro-Hungarian empire and did not become Romanian until the Treaty of Neully between that empire and Romania.
Didn't the current Queen Elizabeth II also spend time in Malta before her father's death as Price Philip had naval duties in the area? How strange, I wonder if Malta is still used this way.
Nice video BUT the music is BLOCKED in America & other countries. And I have never heard of Marie of Romania before, she sounds like an interesting lady.
It's not true that Marie got paired with Ferdinand because her cousin George married May of Teck. It was the other way around: George eventually took up with his older brother's fiancée because Marie -- thanks to the influence of her mother -- turned him down.
She was not the last Queen. King Michael's wife, Queen Anne was the last Queen. Carol was also not her father in law as her husband was Carols nephew, not his son.
What is the music in the video? I clicked on the link & it says unavailable. Is there anyway around this? I tried using VPN but it doesn't do anything, most be blocked in a lot of areas.
It may be a somewhat uncanny resemblance but 8:30-8:35 looks very much like HRH Princess Maria Jose at the time of her marriage to HRH Humbert Hereditary Prince of Italy although they were a generation apart in age. I would be interested if anyone else sees the resemblance to Maria Jose of Belgium in 1930 at the time of her betrothal as they were all related at some point even if one needed to change their religion an issue which seems lost on young people of today.
She was the complete opposite of her cousin Alix, Alexandra Feodorovna. That one just didn’t understand ruling and power a Queen must hold like Marie does. So look what happened to the Alix and her brood of Romanovs.
Thank you for sharing this, fun fact Queen Victoria actually wanted Marie to marry George however Marie's mother wouldn't hear of it, she hated her husbands family. Her mother was an anglophone, and her father was a British Prince 😅
So queen Marie of Romania was first cousin of GeorgeV,Wilhelm II,Nicholas II.Her husband, king Ferdinand of Romania was a Hohenzollern like Wilhelm II,his relative. If you want to se some interesting, search on the net photos and film about the last trip outside Russia made by russian imperial family in june 1914,just before the outbreak of WWI.Nicholas II took his family on imperial ship across the Black Sea to visit in Constanta,Romania the royal family of Romania, his relatives. You will see all of them standing for photos and film and interesting details. For example tsarevich Alexey very friendly to his little cousin, princess Ileana, daughter of Marie who was then not queen but crown princess of Romania. You wonder about the possibility of another history, another life for them.
there was never a Queen Victoria I. there’s only a Queen Victoria I if there was another Victoria. Also, Grand Duchess Marie, the wife of Alfred of Edinburgh and the mother of Queen Marie of Romania, was close to her children. Maybe not lovingly close but closer than other royal families. It’s because her husband ignored her so she spent her time with her children, preparing them for their lives as married spouses of powerful families.

Always love your work. ❤🎉
Excellent. Thank you !:-)
This video was sooo interesting! I am going to try to find some of the books Queen Marie wrote. I am sure they would give an insight into how she “ felt “ during good and bad times in her life. Thanks for making this video for us! 🇨🇦
Well at least she didn't end up like the Romanian dictator's wife did in 89.
You can see that Queen Elizabeth II is related in several different photos.
I love June’s journey, it’s addictive 😂😂
She made the România as it is today, thank you, Your Highness❤
I saw the movie made about her it led me here.
She features also in an interesting book entitled, “The Sourdough and the Queen, The Many Lives of Klondike Joe Boyle” by Leonard W. Taylor.
“He became king of Romania for the second time.”
All I could think was “ah shit here we go again”
Very well done.
Thanks!!
I saw in other yt videos this misconception. Carol I had just one daughter, that died very young, and Ferdinand was the son of his brother
Yes, the other princess Marie with Elisabeth of Wied... too sad she had the same fate as the lil prince Mircea who died during the war. Because Elisabeth and Carol did not have any more children, they called for Ferdinand to take the throne.
Great Documentary.
Very good video!
“Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
a medley of extemporanea,
And love is a thing that can never go wrong,
and I am Marie of Romania.”
― Dorothy Parker
Now THIS is one of the most beautiful and LOVABLE comments I EVER read here on RUclips❣️🌹🌿👍☘️
@@hansmiller664 TY. BTW,aAn Irish first cousin married a Polish/Danish close relative of Queen Marie of Romania. He had a Canbridge degree and a title he refused to use and no inherited money. Everything was seized by the Nazis and the Soviets.
How do these video get less than 4K likes? Love your channel and really believe you deserve 100x your regular likes on these videos!
I like her I find it sad tho her own son shut her out
You will find that the region of Transylvania was not part of Romania when Bram Stoker wrote "Dracula."-it was part of the Hungarian portion of the Austro-Hungarian empire and did not become Romanian until the Treaty of Neully between that empire and Romania.
That should have been the Treaty of Trianon that ceded Transylvania to Romania from Hungary -Neully Treaty was about Bulgaria not Hungary!
Loved it - you are very good - the last picture I am pretty sure is her daughter not her . Thanks again
Indeed, is her daughter, Marie, Queen of Yugoslavia, known as Mignon during her childhood.
Anne married Michael after he abdicated the throne so she was only Queen in pretense.

Great 👍 video.
What is the music in the video? I clicked on the link & it says unavailable. Is there anyway around this? I tried using VPN but it doesn't do anything, most be blocked in a lot of areas.
Thank you
Victoria, not Victoria I.
I really enjoy your videos, i know that this is not a particularly unique comment, but it is still true
Thanks very much!!

She was not the last queen of Romania. Queen Helen was. Queen Marie's son, Carol the Second, was married with queen Helen, King Michael's mother.
It's just Queen Victoria, not "Queen Victoria I", as that implies that there has been a "Queen Victoria II".
there was never a Queen Victoria I. there’s only a Queen Victoria I if there was another Victoria.
