OH THANK GOD. I thought my baby might have been having a seizure. He does this and sometimes wakes up and almost "snaps out of it" I was trying to google what this could be but it kept listing seizures... and I had no idea how to explain it to his doctor. This is exactly what it looks like. I feel better.
So glad you found the video and can rest assured now! Honestly, I tried to be laid back and not worry about things with my baby but I was really confused. You’ll never know what to expect until they get older and you look back at these moments.
Same here Mama jesussss I just spent a long time researching what it could have been I was even about to take him to hospital, Jesus I’ve been crying for hours this is such a relief to because he didn’t have any other symptoms of a seizure at all
Omg. Thanks for this video. My new born been doing this and I said she's in REM sleep. But I googled just now and Google said they take a while to go into Rem and was listing infant seizure. But the infant seizure looks nothing like this. So I continued searching. I feel so much better now. This is what she looks like
My sister-in-law sent me a video of my newborn nephew sleeping because he did this frequently throughout. I figured it was REM so googled it and ended up here. Good to know I was right and it's nothing to worry about. There needs to be better education for new mothers about this kind of thing to prevent unnecessary stress! Your daughter is very cute btw 🥰

I cannot thank you enough for posting this. I just had a baby and he does this so much and I was SO worried because all it was listing was he was having seizures and it worried my heart so much.
My daughter was also breathing heavily in her sleep. Babies are prone to hiccups and heavy breathing while they get used to the world. It’s good practice for their growing lungs. You can always ask your doctor to confirm her breathing is fine at checkup. It’s normal to see heavy breathing during sleep 😴
The music was added to the video, the room was quiet. As a new mom, I honestly thought she was awake and just learning how to move her eyes around. I spent a lot of time just watching her it was amazing.
Thank you for this wonderful video. We were concerned with our 2 month old preemie foster son. With my kids I guess I wasn’t as cautious, but with his mom being an addict we’re constantly on our toes. This is exactly what he does and thankful to know it’s normal.

My baby was born on Palm Sunday. When I first saw my daughter eyes moving weird , I thought she was possessed or something... then google allowed me understand what was happening
My 2 and a half week old son just started doing this. Eyes wide open, darting around and having the creepiest grins. It scared me and made me think he was possessed too lol even though I was pretty sure it was his REM cycle, but this video makes me feel better that many babies do it and are perfectly normal lol
My baby boy does this and my grandmother says it's "hiving" ol wives tale of the old folks..it's scary to think it could be serious but I love to hear him laugh and make noises 😂
I thought my newborn son has something with his eyes bcoz his eyes are moving in opposite direction when he is sleepy.. My mother said that it's normal but I need to convince myself more. Thanks to this video, I am now relieved😊
thanks to God ,,,my baby does this ,,,,she is 3weeks old ,,I thought it's abnormal,,,,whenever I see her doing this I cry wondering what could be the problem
My baby was healthy and now she is 5 years old with no health problems! It should stop happening around 2-3 months old because the baby has more control on the eyelids during sleep.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been terrified for a week of what might be wrong with my 3 week old. My son does this often and unfortunately wakes up frequently because of it.
I will say one thing. In REM sleep, all skeletal (voluntary) muscles are paralyzed completely. This means that no arm, leg, head movement, etc. will occur. Only eyes will dart back and forth, so do be aware of this if you are wondering whether someone is in REM sleep, or if something else is going on.
It seems that babies can twitch and their arms may flail backwards while sleeping. This might be different than typical REM sleep in adults, because babies don't have the ability to control their eye movements in this state or close their eyelids. It wasn't until years later that I realized that this must be normal eye movement in baby's sleep cycle!
My son is about to be three weeks old. He does this and his eyes are wide open. He will smile and make the faces. Half the time it’s hard to tell if he’s awake or asleep lol. Newborns are terrifying lol
I’m so glad I ran into this vid 🤦🏾♀️ I just had my 3rd child 4 years after my 2nd and man she does alllllllll types of new things that be freaking me out lol
Hmmm.... it gets less and less every month. By 3-4 months they have a much better control over their muscles and eye movements. REM sleep will continue but infants and toddlers just keep their eyes closed.
Plz ans me my 15 days daughter breathing very fast or heavy while sleeping but when she awake and take feed she looks totally normal.plz tell is this normal I'm very worried plz

So the baby isn’t awake right? My newborn daughter often does this during naps and I fear she’s not getting any actual sleep during them because her eyes are constantly flickering, even slightly opening and she’s constantly smiling

Then I had another baby and he did it a little bit, too. That’s when I finally realized this is REM sleep! Baby was completely normal and healthy besides this odd eye movement that I captured hehe

I had gained more experience and in perspective I knew that the baby was sleeping. I didn’t worry about the eye movements because she was a big, healthy baby born with no complications.
