A Nylon Acoustic Gibson through a Cranked Marshall Stack!

- I'm playing a Gibson Chet Atkins Acoustic/Eklictruc Guitar through a cranked 1971 Marshall Super Bass Full Stack. These guitars were built in the 1980s and 1990s and you may be surprised how good and natural they sound both clean and fully distorted!! Since the stings are non metal the pick ups are based on Piezo technology. Most natural sounding piezos I've ever heard!
I feel that some 60’s artists would enjoy this a lot
"guess you guys are not ready for this yet, but your kids are gonna love it"
@@joseislanio8910 Ok McFLY!
My first guitar teacher had one of these. He played the riff from “Money For Nothing” with the proper gain and my 12-year old mind was blown.
One very useful trick my mentor showed me long ago was to place a towel or a piece of foam between the head and cabs, your tubes will thank me later ;)
This video really brought back some fond memories of being 14 years old and plugging my electric acoustic into my solid state Peavey, because it's what I had at 14, and really being shocked at the tone I got from it. I haven't done that in many years, but seeing this makes me want to give it another go!
What about combos?! My 4010 would like to know 😂
Thanks for the tip!
Through a Bassman next, please and thank you!
And a treble booster to spark things out
Simply put........ you are the man Johan!
Cheers my friend! :-)
I have often wondered what this very setup would sound like. I never imagined it would sound this good.
Glad to hear that!
He's done it, the mad genius!
Cheers ;-)
The mad professor hard at work!!
Now this is the trademark Johan kind of stuff we all know and love! Never too afraid to ask original questions and try them in a creative way. Cheers to Sweden!
Dude you are the OG Mad Professor!
;-) Cheers
I remember being impressed by the Chet Atkins CEC when it first appeared in 1982 (and the later SST from 1987-2006). It was a genuine innovation by Gibson. It was discontinued in 2006, but by then it had been used by some major artists. There was also an Epiphone equivalent from 1995-2005. Nowadays, the nearest thing is probably one of the Godin Multiac series.
Love where you're coming from with these
This video rules
Thanks Cameron!
Reminded me of my acoustic, in which I installed two guitar pickups.
Great video, as always
Thanks José!
And now for something completely different....🤣 I didn't know what to expect but I kind of liked it! God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
Thanks man, rock on!
Unbelievable piezo sound quality!!!
That is absolutely hilarious that you'd try this out. Sounds great too...but not necessarily like a Chet model, lol.
Thanks man ;-)
very cool experiment, I remember these when they first came out, they were all the rage. I would love to find one! Great amp and great riffing to, appreciate all you do, stay safe!
Thanks man, I’m glad to hear that, Cheers!
This has serious "that awesome weird tone from one song on one album that fans of a band would argue about for decades to come" potential.
Well done Brother ! My first guitar was a Kay acoustic, 4 strings. My teacher restrung it once with nylon to help me with chords! Nice and Juicy! Thanks for sharing and Be Well All!
Thanks brother!
I’ve always thought a clean electric sounded a lot like a nylon guitar, just amplified.
Never thought to try the opposite, surprised at how unironically awesome it sounds!
That sounds amazing.
I love this 'outside the box' rig... I'd love to see Jack White or the Black Keys use this
Sounds great to me, didn't expect that to work!
Thanks I didn’t either
2:25 you REALLY thought you're gonna get away with that one, didn't you
Hahaha! I’m not in a music store so I should be safe ;-)
No stairway, denied!
Madlad!
I was in a band for about a year and had a similar setup, people loved it.
Brilliant, just brilliant!
Thanks Michał!
Loved that DM section!
Thanks! :-)
This is amazing
Zakk Wylde did a whole show on PBS with an acoustic. It was pretty awesome. It's on RUclips.
Hi, Johan!
I love Chet Atkins guitars. Cort made something like that, so I know, how it goes. Nice one!
See you!
Z.
Thanks Zigfrid!
I think Joe Perry used one of those on Janie's Got a Gun. Crazy how good it sounds through a cranked Marshall!
I came here to say this! I’ve seen him live play it on the same guitar. That guitar solo is one of my favourites.
I'm amazed the feedback was so controllable, even with the stopper in the soundhole!
It’s mostly solid body actually
I think you are on to something here. :)
Cheers Adam!
RAD MAN sounds awesome thank you
Thanks Rich!
That’s some wild shit right there bro.
Thanks :-)
Ha Ha... thanx Johan.
You never fail to please
I for one... Absolutely CONCUR!
It reminds me kind of like the Lindsey Buckingham guitar? - totally different, I know, but just that thin body and sound-
Thank you for all your experimenting you do Johan!-
Man... 👏🏻👑
Pretty dang cool.
Hell yeah, been doing that.
Wow, I’ve never seen or heard an acoustic guitar played this way, sounds just like an electric.
Thanks! :-)
Chet Atkins is one of the best guitars players of all time.
😲😲😲👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️ Thanks Johan 🤗
It might be interesting to try it through a darker amp like Orange or Ampeg.
But it's cool anyway and your playing is awesome and tasty, Johan! :)
Thanks Peter! Glad you like it!
You could form the most badass mariachi band ever.
This is so much 🤘
That's the way to play Cello Suite No 1
Wow!
Hi Johan, long time no see. What a crazy but original idea. I was expecting to feedback, but you pull it through. Cheers and see ya next wednesday.
Cheers Jorge! See you!
Great guitar. I hope that Gibson will reissue it in the future.
Incredible.
Thanks
You're tripping me out pal 😄
How about nylon strings on a standard electric guitar through a cranked amp?
Listen to lightning Hopkins for some excellent overdriven acoustic guitar. He usually played with an electric guitar pickup mounted in the sound hole of a Gibson J45 into small tube combos maxed out I guess.
Because why the hell not...
Exactly 😊
Awesome video as always, loved it!
By the way, have you ever considered checking out some tube Leslie cabinets, like 147 or 122? 😁
The lesson from this video is: a plexi always sounds good no matter what you throw at it!
This would be awesome for stoner rock
People are asking 3 to 5 thousand dollars for these. What insanity. Nothing against Chet, but jeezus, it’s just a solid body guitar with a piezo pickup under the bridge for crying out loud...
Yeah that's a lot but they are great guitars from what I hear Had a chance to get one fairly cheap at a pawn shop about 20 years ago Should have snagged it
and when i think of chet of think of a gretsch semi not this
I'm gonna go from Spanish guitar to ...errr....MAYHEM! LMAO :-)
I think it was an adequate description 😉

You should try Fender Stratocaster Malmsteen with nylon string, Japan Custom Shop produced one in the 90s
I tried something like this, with a nylon string piezo. Unfortunately not a solid body guitar. The results were terrifying. Loud squealing would be putting it mildly.
Malaguana at max-gain-a!
Wow what a cool sound. What else could be put through that stack?
Thanks, I can think of a number of things 😉
Hey johan are the ear wear monitors or ear muffs/protection from volume? If they are muffs how much does that impede your ability to hear how things sound? I’m getting ear problems as I get older and trying to find a comfortable solution for volume control but still be able to hear the amp well. I don’t really play in a situation where in ear monitors would be feasible
Hi! These are industrial ear defenders that takes out all treble and high mid. Sometimes I wear in ear phones underneath for monitoring. There are isolation headphones for drum recording that I’m gonna get. I can post a video on it when I do. Cheers
@@JohanSegeborn thanks johan! Do you feel like you can still hear what your playing very well to make EQ adjustments on the amp still with them on? Are they comfortable?
thats what i want to see
Cheers!
Heavy Flamenco
;-)
Those are great guitars...
LoL... anything sounds good thru that old cab Has the mojo I just got a Gremlin head and it sounds killer w my 25 watt alnicos CelestionT660 or something It's a 65 re ish..brass logo jobber
Chet Atkins must be turning over in his grave. 😎👍
Cheers William!
I did this with a banjo once...
...ONCE....
it was a painful experience on several fronts.
Hahaha! 🤣
almost sounds like blue cheer lmao
Is that a Ibanez DML and a Boss CE-3 lying on top of your Bassman?
Hey! Seeing you had some tube rattle, I have tube rattle from my amp. The tubes aren't microphonic, but I was wondering if tube rattle is a normal thing? Thanks!
Not this loud!
I sometimes play my acoustic 12 string through my amp, and the sound is almost too big to be a useful rythm guitar sound
Johan, the intro is recorded with an Iphone 12? is that good that you choose it over a dedicated microphone? thanks !
Its an XS actually. Its definitely good enough
@@JohanSegeborn absolutly . Very good.
Johnossi style 😁
Nice Tool type tones to Chet.... Chet Toolkins ?
Maybe that willie nelson guy is on to something after all? Not just "on" something...
Edit: kinda reminds me of the Gibson L5 video from a few years ago... that giggle with the feedback.
Jack White entered the chat.
Off the subject But do you have any B Bender Guitars / videos ?
No not yet, but they’re cool indeed!
Paco de Hendrix😛
Hahaha! Cheers ;-)
My life has been a lie 🤣🤣🤣
No Chet here folks
Funny moment
Not good distortion.
