@7:06 I did have to fiddle around with levels, sampling between the sp and mpc live. Id get crazy amounts of clipping when i first hooked them together. Honestly forget what i did... However that skipback (mark) feature is amazing, way faster and more intuitive than the MPC right off the bat .
Superb video. Very nice insight. Did you put it on ‘hidden’ on purpose? Anyway, I decided it is not time to get the 404 yet. I have watched a ton of videos and I feel it’s a bridge too far for me right now. My workflow is very ‘in the moment’ playing everything (midi) in the 707 and I feel a more sample based workflow will get me out of that quick and inspirational flow. I’m not sure if I will like that and the added complexity of another piece of gear. So I decided to use the DAW for sample mangling, which is not really optimal, but it is what I have and know. If I am able to make samples for my jams in the DAW, I can easily export them to the 707, so for now, this feels like the best way to try this new tool (sampling and sample mangling) even though the experience will be less ‘fun’ or ‘immediate’ compared to using hardware. But who knows, I have learned a lot about the 404 and think it might suit me one day 😊
The mostly short answer for why the video is hidden at the moment is that I usually record multiple videos a day once or twice a week, and then generally schedule them out one a day. It's hidden because if I schedule it, then it becomes unavailable, and I figured since you asked the question you'd probably benefit from the answer sooner rather than later :D. RUclips doesn't quite let me do what I want, and it's obnoxious because I *could* schedule content, but then people would have to pay to view content on my channel to see the videos early, and I'm honestly trying to leave this stuff as free since I'd rather people have access to the information than not. The video will drop in the next week or two. Sounds like you've got a set workflow, which is awesome and probably worth sticking with. Feel free to ask more questions in the future and I'll do my best to answer them for you!
Might be crazy-sounding and a tall order, but I actually bought an MK2 to teach myself to be less fearful of commitment. This is not a machine for slavishly tweaking a patch to a MIDI loop to oblivion, this is a machine for getting shit done. It's challenging, but I'll get somewhere once I get over myself!
for me the fear of commitment is usually just a fear of making mistakes... took me some time... but now I've just reframed it to "as an artist, my real value is choosing which mistakes actually make the piece better" instead of "any mistake, no matter how small, shows that I am imperfect and therefore unworthy" :D
ROLAND needs to change that god awful ORANGE color for all the upper pads. Played a live show with the mk2, and It's hard to tell if you have an effect on or off in certain lighting! Had the delay effect on during a live performance, and couldn't tell LMAO The mk2 has a long way to go. I truly believe this device is EOL . Roland rushed out this product for a cash grab. SO many bugs, half baked features, and more bugs
that lighting problem seems to be annoying... glad I haven't hit it yet... they seem to have been supporting it for far longer than I would have expected... we're three years in now which is way longer than previous SP support through software... but I get your point.
For me, as someone who samples from RUclips, ‘skip back’ is one of the most valuable features.
it's a time saver for sure!

yeah... the SP404 mk2 isn't quite as deep a sampler, but when it is firing on cylinders like with skip back... it can get things DONE.

I completely understand it now!
Thanks again for the extensive answer!
thanks for the free manual!
Happy to help!
Are we gunna get a sp404mkii bible???
Just playing.
Thank you so much Tao! Im loving my SP so much. It's a blast, especially paired up with Maschine.
It's always great to hear people finding ways to make music they love with the devices they love! :D
We about to time travel at 2 AM!!!!!!!!!!
the future is now!
Great video...for me, the skipback/looper has been very useful; dj mod,e not at all...
I hear you... DJ Mode is fun, but not my jam...
Yeah , tables are definitely not interpreted 100% on the MKii . Even djfx, them knobs just don't hit the same as a large plate being manipulated

Thanks for your dedication to teaching people to use this device @neartao!
