  • Here is an honest, unscripted chat with my friend Daniel Cox from Aussie rockers The Poor as I show him the Synergy SYN2 modular preamp and various modules.
    Full disclosure- I have all these modules here because I am about to do a demo video showcasing the sound of all of Synergy's modules to help make the decision easier for prospective customers. This is not a paid advertisement and I received no free gear, but have the option to buy what I want to keep at artist pricing before I forward the rest to the Australian distributor.

    Great video Rick! That direct out sounds great! I've been using the module setup for years with the Egnater Mod50 which is what Synergy came from. I use the Syn30 head and slave an Egnater Tweaker 15 (like the one you have) and run it in stereo...Glorious!!

      Nice setup! I was a Randall MTS user years back and used to get my modules modified by Dave Friedman which took them to a new level.

    Randall and Egnater both had amp models with modular preamps back in the 2000's. You CAN use the Synergy preamp modules in either the Randell and the Egnater amps/racks.
    The only caveat is that like their modules, you can only use a single channel from the Synergy preamp. There's a switch you'll have to throw to use one of them.

    This is the demo Ive been waiting to see. Excellent job and have to say I appreciate your authentic energy. Question, how were you sending the audio to the interface? Mic'd cab or XLR/cab sim out?

    Great video ! I’d like to hear more about the sag feature . Just ordered a syn 1 and be/bb . I own a be-50 deluxe and am going to do a tone comparison between the syn module and amp , and thought about throwing in the uad be-100 and buxom betty amp sim .

    How do the synergy modules sound in 4cm , in that egnater tweaker head you have on the shelf ?

  • @eole123456789
    @eole123456789 Год назад +1

    I believe you don't even need the power amp. You can just use the preamp module straight into the interface as it has a cab sim included. Do you think it sounds good enough for home recording?

    • @poison7512
      @poison7512 Год назад +3

      Meh it's ok.. but that's just because of the analog speaker sim. Id bypass the cab sim and use an IR loader of some sort for the best results. Just adjust the sag control to get the Poweramp feel you like and you're good to go.

    I don't know much. If I have a head with an xx loop. Could I buy the sun 2 rack and plug it straight into the loop? Or do I need something else?

      Yep. Works with an amp with fx loop.

    No offence, Rick. A lot of people get their knickers in a twist if I criticize something. Firstly, back in the 80's, I might have splurged my money on this. However, to spend $1,400 on an empty preamp where you have to add 2 x $630 each for pre-amp module, another $1,900 for the power amp plus two sets of speakers (if you want stereo), you're looking at $5,000 to $6,000 on a complete set-up. I'm sure that the sound is good. I have no qualms with that. Second, over the years, I've had several modelers which I ran through my Marshall head's effect return as a power amp and it blew my ears off. Unless you can hear more directly in front of the speakers, what I heard over my studio speakers was really nice but not that nice that I'd go and buy this gear. Thirdly, the days of carting loads of stuff around unless you're a famous act are over. Lastly, Rick, since you have a whole shelf full of Synergy modules, you are either very wealthy or you are promoting this product shamelessly under the guise of "An Honest Conversation". So, to restore trust, could you please tell us RUclipsrs whether you yourself purchased all Synergy gear or did you get the gear for free and/or were paid for this video? Again, no offence but there was no disclaimer of this being a promotional video.

      Hi James, no offence taken. Just to get full disclosure out of the way first, I have all these here at the moment because I am about to do up an audio demo comparing all of Synergy's modules to make the decision easier for folks looking at buying modules. Not paid and no free gear, just the option to buy what I want to keep at artist pricing and forwarding on the rest to the local distributor once done.
      As for the price, I play guitar for a revolving cast of singers from 80's Aussie chart topping bands and need to pull off tones from their signature hits. Normally I would use a Soldano or Friedman head, which is $5-7k in itself, then add overdrives, switching system secondary power amp to drive 2 4x12 cabs and.....it all adds up. I could, and have, used a modeller but the bosses hear the difference and as I say in the video- I just want to turn some f*ckin knobs if I have to adjust my sound on the fly during a show!
      The "Honest Conversation" title refers to the fact that my friend Dan had never heard of Synergy or any of the other brands this technology has been licensed to over the years, and it is totally unscripted with him asking me honest questions and seeing his reaction to the sounds we got.
      Most of my other videos I make are blatantly scripted by me and I'm reading off an auto cue. I'm a bumbling idiot if I don't do that ;)
      Hope that answers your questions.

      LOL. The days of lugging gear around are alive and well unless your a person doing only fly dates. Most of the regional bands I see are still using amps and cabinets. I personally use a modeler for gigging now but I have amps, including Synergy, at home for recording.

      Dude what are you talking about its 1200 for the synergy 5050 800 for the dual module rack and 400 per module, and if you only care about one module at a time you can run the syn 1 module dock and have a boutiqe amp for 2100, even less used
