I plan on making some pickled onions this weekend. Also, I want to let you I found your recipe for “The Best Carne Asada” online and my family absolutely loves it!!! Thank you so much to sharing it. We’ve replaced our old boring London Broil with it.
just great, I loved the video,.
These are so amazing on a pizza!!! Tonight I'm making guacamole steak tostadas with them.
Ingredients:
Sour cream of choice
Cheese of choice
Onions
Jalapeno
Tomato
Cilantro
Avocado
Lime juice
Jalapenos
Steak (thin and lean is best)
Premade tostadas
1:. Apply thin layer sour cream (or Mexican cream or Greek yogurt mixed with a pinch of salt and splash of lemon or lime juice) or any variations
2: thin to med layer of cheese. If that's not enough add to top layer.
3: microwave cheesed and creamed tostadas maybe 30 secs or so till cheese starts melting.
4: add onions, cooked steak, guacamole, and extra cheese, salsa, or hot sauce. You may add herbs like cilantro, oregano, basil, garlic, ....
5: enjoy!!!
* To cook steak have thin lean cuts and cook quick quick quick on high heat or med high depending on what stove top. I have glass so it cooks way slower than gas

Very useful and instructive. Thank you! I've put a teeny bit of pickling spices in my red onions instead of the pepper, plus thyme and tarragon. The juice, I made it with half regular white vinegar and half apple cider vinegar because I happened to be running out of both of those to reach the required quantity, tee-hee! It came out as a kitchen marvel. Thank you for your inspiration.
You are welcome!
Ty 👍

Simple enough
The best part about this it doesn't even need to be red onions right now I have jar fill with red, white, and vidalia onions.
I will be trying this
Let me know how you like them!
Clarence Brown they are really delicious 😋.
Your awesome 👏
I love the recipe, first time for me, thank you!!!!
You are welcome!
Hi! I just discovered your channel (subscribed). How long do I have to wait before I can eat them? And how long will they keep in the refrigerator? Thank you.
I'm going to try a jar with dill, and another jar with double the sugar. Thanks
Really a Suppppeerrrr Easy..... So yummmy.... :)
You are awsome..... ;)
Have you experimented with different vinegars and sugar sources?
Could (would) you be confident in processing these in a hot-water canning situation?
I've used rice wine vinegar and honey before also it was amazing
Glad those worked out for you (:
I did mine with half water n half vinegar with some sugar bring it to a boil n fill my jars. However I didn’t store mine in fridge I stored it on the counter top n it taste great.
How long did they keep on the counter. I was wondering if we have to hot water bath.
❤❤❤
Thanks for the video. I have a question, why should we add the garlic cloves whole rather than crushed?
How long does a jar take to come to flavor and how long does a jar last after the initial opening?
I've used whole cloves and star anise.
I used 3/4 tbsp of sugar, 1tbsp of salt, cumin powder, allspice powder, whole peppercorn, and sprigs of fresh rosemary. Combo!
Thank you sooo much for this post. I saw guys eat this with grilled shark but I needed a recipe, so thank you kindly. Silly question please - how long before one can consume these? Regards from Cape Town - South Africa.
Let sit minimum 24 hrs & enjoy ;*)
👍
How long will this keep in the frig?
Dill flavor is good too.......Or one bay leaf & garlic......
How long last in the refry?
How long does it have to stay in the fridge before using? Looks amazing
About 24 hours is good but at least 8 or so.
Cebola Vermelha em Conserva
1 cebola vermelha cortada em fatias
1 1/2 de vinagre branco
2 colheres de sopa de açúcar (opcional)
1 colher de sopa de sal
1 Recipiente de vidro com tampa
Can u cook pickled onions In hot bath to seal the jars and keep longer?
How long do these pickled onions last. Is it best to can in water bath for longer storage?
How long does it last in the refrigerator and safe to eat?
Can you use apple cider vinegar? Thanks
So what happens after you pour the liquid in? How long before you use them? Should you refrigerate them for a period?
You'll have to stand at attention and see that effect for yourself, but please don't use them until they've loosened the wallpaper off the kitchen walls you swore you'd strip when you moved in. Yes, refrigerate them for at least twenty eight days every month for six to nine years. Attach humor to Mason jars and get busy. Be well.
Chef I saw a recipe wherein they pour hot water over the onions..drain them t before they add the brine?
Can I use apple cider vinegar?
Thanks
Can i replace the sugar with splenda?
Thank you for your good ideas. When can I start eating the pickles onions, please?
I like to wait around 24 hours
Hi and thank you, can we use different types of vinegar? I was thinking about champagne, other flavored types as well. Thank you
hmm never have tried it with different types of vinegar. Let me know if you try it.
Hi, how long does onion need to stay in jar to be ready to eat? Thanks ❤️
Anything from overnight to a week
I just tried these and they were a great addition to my side salads. Question.. how long do they keep in the fridge?
It says up to 6 months in the description.
Thank you lol i didn't look at the description.
No worries! I'd gone back up to check it, myself. LOL
Can you leave out the salt? Or would it not work?
How long can you refrigerate the onions for?
Until they begin to scream and cry for removal. Or attention. Once pickled, they're often too boozy to manage even a light whimper for anywhere from three to six months. No good, decent pickled onion batch lasts very long, especially if you pickle short onions. Be well.
Do you need to put them in a steam bath cooker after closing? Do they store in a room temperature?
Cannon instructions can be found on my website. Link in video description.
After the fridge, how long till you can eat?
About 12 hours, but better at 24 hours.
Can you use the same vinegar again? The red onions were lovely they lasted one day in my house.
I bet you could after a day.
Add a dash to a vodka Gibson and let the good times roll.
Do you use tap water with chlorine or spring water?
Ummm, I don’t use either. You can use whatever water you’d like that works best based on your location in the world and the safety of the water in your area.
How long can these be kept? Refrigerator once opened? Can they be stored in cupboard until opened?
They can be kept refrigerated for 6-12 months. If you follow proper canning procedure to seal them, you could store them at room temperature for years.
If you live in Vegas, they can be kept until they turn 21.
Thanks a lot for your nice video.... I think it would be too much vinegerly. How about using half viniger half water? Or boiling White vinegerl break its strong taste?
Do you understand what pickling does at all?
@@SirenaSpades yes I do... But this method is New for me. Normally we add vinegar un boiled and less amout. 😊
I thought we should let the vinegar cool before pouring into the jar with the onions.
How long will this keep in the fridge?
Opened, unsealed jars of pickled vegetables will stay good in the fridge
for about 6 months. Be sure to keep your pickled vegetables in the
refrigerator.
My husband can't have salt, will this recipe be good without it ?
I'm not any chef and I'm a kid yet, just wanted to ask if is it healthy and is it too much vinegar?
But anyway it is very delicious. And it fits in my kitchen nicely. XD Thanks a LOT!
When are they ready?
Immediately
How long are these good for? Have you ever tried canning them?
It says in the description that they're good for up to 6 months in the fridge.
Moona1966 opps must have missed that. Thanks!
You're welcome! :)
Do I need to use pickling salt?
Nope!
What kind of salt do you use? Is pink Himalayan ok?
Yes
How long does it take to achieve pickling for the best flavor? I've heard 4 weeks.
For red onions? 2-3 days.
And for how long can we preserve i....?
@@ankitaacharya689 They aren't preserved. You'd have to go through the canning process to be preserved.
Ok after putting the onions in the fridge when can you start eating them?
Right away if you want (: But would wait at least 24 hours personally.
Thanks sorry for the late reply
i made some pickeled onions and i put some cloves and garlic in it but now after a while the onions are turning brown can you tell me why am i supposed to keep them in the fridge what would the shelf time be please
That will happen if you use iodized salt, need to use Kosher, sea or pickling salt. Could that be it?
How many days should it be refrigerated before consuming?
24 hours
With the jar or without?
How long does it keep
up to six months. BUT! once you open it eat them within a couple of days
Can i keep them in pantry or refry?
Is it necessary to refrigerate?
yes
Do you process the product in a canner?
You don’t have to, but if you want to store it on a shelf or for more than 6 months you’d need to can it.
If i do water bath how long they last in pantry?
How long do i put them in waterbath?
In other videos those onion slices were treated with hot water first. Blanching vegetables: "Vegetables have a natural enzyme that continues to effect texture, color and flavor. Blanching stops the enzyme action".
Never done that and never had a problem. Good thing I don't just blindly copy other people :)
Funny answer, because your viewers should blindly copy this video.
Can you use apple cider vinegar for this..
I do
Why does the brine have to be hot though ? Seems like its gonna soften up the onion and boil it. Rather than have the crunch
To dissolve everything. It doesn't soften the onion.
2018
🤣☺️
I just made them. The vinegar smelt nasty but I pulled though 😂
Use lime juice instead. Taste better and lasts a few weeks in The fridge.
How long will they keep in the fridge?
It's impossible to know without climbing into the fridge with them for up to three weeks. Or three months. Maybe even longer! Good luck.
Quick question...most of the videos I watch they add water to their pickling brine. You do not. Is there a reason that you don't add water?
I don’t enjoy watered down pickles.
I would say it depends on how concentrated acetic acid in your vinegar is in the first place. If I use a regular 8% I always dilute the vinegar with water, usually 1:1 vinegar to water and thats plenty sour. But If I am using milder vinegars I generally add less water. But I always dilute. And then It depends on your tolerance of acetic acid of course. If you are ok with strong vinegar flavors, you might not want to add the water at all... One thing to remember is the stronger the acid solution is, the more tender the onions are and longer the shelf life will be. Also, if you use really hot brine the onions tend to soften up more. If you use colder brine, the outcome will be more crisp.
please make a rainbow cake with all 7 colours of rainbow (VIBGYOR)...PLEASE PLEASE make that...
Dill pickle juice is better than white vinegar.
What do you think dill pickle juice is made out of?
@@Thestayathomechef 🤣😂
Why is it most people in the US confuse 'mexican' with cumin? It's not indian food... mexican food has garlic, oregano, thyme, marjoram not raw cumin
Cumin, cilantro, black pepper, cloves, and cinnamon are all from the middle east, and yet all of them are now used in various types of Mexican cuisine. You can read more about that history here: www.splendidtable.org/story/how-the-flavors-of-the-middle-east-ended-up-in-mexico
While cumin is a staple in Indian and Mediterranean cooking, it's also found regularly in Mexican dishes. I can understand the confusion should the pickled onions be used in one too many Gibsons before lunchtime.
@@johnnykay7411 It's not though, and specially not used raw like in this example. You find it in adobos sometimes, maybe in bean soup and other cooked stews. Almost never in a salsa or as a regular spice. For pickled onions, almost guaranteed you would find them with oregano or thyme instead.
No water? ...hmmmm
White vinegar??? Buhbye
See ya!
They're NOT red! They're purple!
And yet they are still called red onions.
I think this recipe definitely calls for water. I made this and followed 100% and it’s horrible. I love pickled onions and these were all vinegar….
Welcome to pickles! But if you like them super mild with just a hint of vinegar, you can replace half or more of the vinegar with water.
